    Abstract
This research examines the historical uses of tarot as both a cultural and a psychological tool and serves to answer the question of whether tarot should be used as a clinical art therapy intervention. The literature review encompasses the origins and influential voices that formed tarot as we know it, an overview of several theoretical frameworks, including mindfulness, narrative therapy, and Jungian psychoanalysis and archetypes, applicability to art therapy, and an examination of potential ethical considerations. This research is used in the creation of a guidebook for credentialed, masters-level art therapists to incorporate tarot into their practice, if it makes sense for their clients and therapeutic goals.
