Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate existing research and interventions and develop a Nature-Based curriculum using Eco-Art therapy for adults ages 18 and over who have experienced childhood trauma. Childhood trauma, which encompasses physical and psychological abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, intergenerational and cultural trauma, natural disasters, bullying, and more, affects two-thirds of children. The effects of trauma, if left untreated, can be devastating. Drawing upon the benefits of nature and employing a trauma informed approach, art therapists can offer a less stigmatized and more affordable alternative using sensory-rich, natural materials. Professionals can also engage clients in outdoor sessions to foster integration of traumatic memories and decrease symptoms related to trauma through nature-based interventions in the proposed Eco-Art therapy curriculum.
