Welcome to McComb Fieldhouse for the
final home game of the millenium. In a fitting manner, the contest will pit a pair of old
backyard rivals, as the Fighting Scots host
the Lakers of Mercyhurst College. the two
hooked up in a memorable battle on
November 29, with the homestanding
Lakers outlasting the Bora, 90-86 in double
overtime. Following this evening's game,
the Scots will take a brief break to enjoy
Christmas before competing in the prestigious Capital Key Classic in Albany, NY on
December 28-30.

times overall. In addition, the Scots have
reached the NCAA Division II Playoffs three
times. Edinboro has won twenty-or-more
games five times under Walcavich, including a 26-8 finish in 1997-98, the most wins
in school history. Overall, Walcavich has a
record of 341-165 and is in his 18th season
as a head coach. Karl Fogel is in his fifth
season in charge of the Mercyhurst program, and his 16th season as a head coach.
The Lakers are 60-54 under his tutelage.
His overall record, including an eight-year
stint at Division I Northeastern, is 224-196.

THE BORO-MERCYHURST SERIES

SCOUTING THE SCOTS

Edinboro leads the all-time series by a 3418 margin. The Fighting Scots seek to keep
intact a streak that has seen the home
team win in each of the previous seven
meetings. Boro head coach Greg Walcavich
enjoys a 13-5 ledger against the Lakers.
Mercyhurst looks for the first season sweep
by either team since 1995-96, when
Edinboro captured both meetings. The last
time Mercyhurst swept both games
occurred in 1978-79.

Edinboro brings a record of 4-2 into the
contest, having lost played on December 11
at Gannon. Thanks to a 96-79 defeat to the
Golden Knights, this is Edinboro's lone
opportunity to knock off one of its Erie
rivals. Edinboro does own a triumph over
Allegheny, another local foe ... the scots
continue to play an up-tempo style, averaging 88.0 ppg., with just two games in the
70's. The Bora is also taking full advantage
of the three-point arc, canning 54 of 131
long distance bombs. Edinboro had outrebounded its first five opponents before losing the board battle to Gannon. The Scots
still own a +8.5 rebound margin ...
Sophomore forward Kennv Tate leads the
team in both scoring (20.5 ppg.) and
rebounding (10.3 rpg.). He has had three
double doubles ... Adam Kautman and Jean
Paul open at guard. Kaufman, a 5'11" junior, is the consummate floor general. While
averaging 11.2 ppg., he has handed out 61
assists with just 9 turnovers, and also leads
the team with 15 steals. He has made 17
of 34 three-pointers. Paul, meanwhile, is a
6'4" sixth-year senior with a sweet jumper.
He had career-highs of 26 points and 13
rebounds in the first meeting with
Mercyhurst. On the year, he averages 17.3
points and 6.2 rebounds ... another juco
transfer is 6'4" junior Kellb Allen. The former JUCO All-American has boosted his
averages to 12.8 ppg. and 6.7 rpg ... Jason
Roseto opens at center. The 6'10", 255 lbs.
freshman has already blocked 24 shots,
including 9 vs. Allegheny. He averages 4.7
ppg. and 5.2 rpg.

THE IAST MEmNG
In one of the more exciting contests locally
in several years, Mercyhurst outlasted the
boro in double overtime, 90-86, on
November 29. The Lakers used a 14-2 run
in the second extra session to post the victory, despite an incredible 114 shots by the
Scots. Edinboro converted just 29.8 percent, negating a 67-57 rebounding edge
and 25 Hurst turnovers. Kenny Tate (27
points) and Jean Paul (26) were the lone
Scots in double digits, with Tate pulling
down 16 rebounds and Paul 13.
Mercyhurst featured four double figure
scorers. Brent Swain had 22 points, 19
rebounds and 7 blocks, with Richard
Bradley contributing 17 markers and Tim
Fesko 16. Matt Thielker added 15 points.

THE COACHES
Edinboro mentor Greg Walcavlch is in his
11th season, posting a record of 187-103
during that period. He broke the Edinboro
record for coaching victories last year.
Walcavich has guided the Scots to the PSAC

recruiting class, featuring freshmen Dion Brown, Scott Melle and Jarron Hinton. Brown,
a 67" forward, averages 7.4 ppg. and 4.8 rpg. while shooting a team-high 57.9 percent
from the floor. Melle, a 6'8", 225 lb. forward, comes in at 6.0 ppg. and 4.1 rpg. Hinton
