Item Description
The Alternator is "a publication reflecting progressive and sustainable alternatives to our mainstream energy and technology options” (Alternator, v.10 no.1, spring 1996). “The Alternator: a generator for alternative currents in agriculture, energy, and lifestyles,” was a publication from Slippery Rock University that was created by the ALTER (Alternative Living Technology and Energy Research) Project and ran from 1987-2004. Originally conceived by Robert Macoskey, for whom the Macoskey Center is named, the ALTER Project started as a means to educate students and the public about ways they can contribute to improving the condition of the environment through changes in their own lifestyles. “The Alternator” began as a means to garner more publicity for the ALTER Project and eventually also became a vehicle for the Sustainable Systems program.
