Transcript: 6/22/18 Convalescent Ward #1, Base Hospital, Camp Johnson, Jacksonville, Florida. My dear Dr. Waller: Through my being transferred from the company that I had been in to another company and later I was taken sick to the Hospital, I did not receive your letter until about ten days ago. At the time that I received your letter of recommendation I was too weak to set up, so I now want to thank you for the fine letter which you sent me. I am now sure you must have thought me ungrateful for not writing before but I assure you I wanted to write before but the doctors would not let me. I had pleural pneumonia and for a long time they thought that I would not live. I expect to get out of the Hospital in about a month. The weather down here is quite warm during the day time but at night it is nice and cool, we have a good bit of rain which makes the weeds grow quite fast. We have about 20,000 men at this camp the greatest number of men since I have been here. I hope you are enjoying the best of health this hot weather. Well I must close wishing that I could be back to go to school this fall. I remain yours sincerely, John J. Feinour.
