Item Description
Transcript: S.C. R. S. Columbia University, New York City. April 29, 1918. My dear Dr. Waller: Received your letter after I was transferred to Dallas and was certainly very glad to hear from you. I was very sorry to hear of your wife’s death. I read it in the Hazleton paper after I got your letter. I am now at Columbia University taking a special course in Radio work. Got in from Texas last Monday morning. The work here keeps us very busy. It is mostly electrical work. I am enjoying the work so far but do not know how long I will enjoy it. Tonight we got orders to fill out another blank for commission and was told to get three more letters of recommendation. Will you please send me one? Also will you please ask Professor Albert and Professor Foote to write me one? If I had time I would write each of them. I had a short trip home Saturday night but had to be back here at school at 9:30 Sunday night. I met Maurice Humkin who is now at B.S.N.S. He was telling me about school. I’m still living in hopes of getting back to B.S.N.S. for a short trip. I do not have much time now when I get home or I would take a trip up. We get off at Saturday at noon till Sunday night at 9:30 each week. This course is supposed to last 13 weeks. We are getting the course in Physics of Electricity in 4 hours that I took while at Normal. We are then supposed to know it. Well, it is nearly time to get out of the Library (where we study every night from 7:15 to 9:15) so I will close hoping to hear from you soon. I remain yours truly, Hugh E. Boyle ’17. 'S.C.R.S. Columbia University, New York City. P.S. When does Normal alumni have their meeting here? Would be glad to see some of the crowd.
