Transcript: September 3, 1917 Dr. D.J. Waller, Bloomsburg Pa. Dear, Dr. Waller: Will you please send me a letter of recommendation? I wish to use it when the examination for a commission is open. I have enlisted in the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps. I like this kind of work so far but have not had much to do yet. I like this section of the country very well. It is very warm in the day time but we got used to it soon after our arrival. I have been here for three weeks but do not know just how long I will be here. I met Lawrence Ryman at Fort Slocum just before I left there. Thanking you in advance for the recommendation, I remain, respectively yours, Hugh E. Boyle ’17. My address is Kelley Field, 65th Aero Squad, So San Antonio, Texas.
