1948-05-14 Counterattack

   This edition focuses on communist efforts to defeat the Nixon-Mundt Bill by raising half a million dollars.  The intent is not just to defeat this one bill, however: much of the money will go to the underground Politbureau.  The debut of "The Iron Curtain" brought protesters and counter-protesters and some clashes as well.  Counterattack attacks the promotion of a progressive professor and communist fellow-traveler (Mitchell Franklin)  from Tulane to the United Nations, while praising the Methodist Church and Columbia University for fighting back against communists.   An incident involving a communist author referring the New York Times to the United Nations for refusing to publish an advertisement for his book is also mentioned.
