A curriculum for refugees and displaced people
Abstract
In recent years the refugee crisis has increased globally. Individuals are fleeing from their homes or are being forcibly removed. Refugees can be separated from their families and friends, sustain property damage, and face unfathomable violence or death. Refugees are required to adapt to a new culture and language often with a lack of support. These experiences can lead to psychological problems including PTSD. This research seeks to provide a resource for refugees through the development of a trauma-based art therapy curriculum that art therapists can implement for individuals, families or refugee groups. The hope is that through preventative intervention, refugees will be able to reduce the risk of developing PTSD through processing and support.
