Track & Field Finishes First Day at PSAC
Championships

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Clarion track & field team completed action at the first day of the PSAC
Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles still seeking their first
points of the weekend. Action will resume tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Those first tallies of the weekend nearly came in the Distance Medley Relay, with the quartet of Kia
Braithwaite, Allison Gates, Skyllar Spears and Abigail Sullivan coming up just one spot shy of
points. They finished ninth with a time of 13:11.71, less than six seconds behind eighth-place East
Stroudsburg.
Jenna Uncapher had a standout performance in the Pentathlon, placing ninth and inking her name in
the Clarion record books in the process. She finished with 2896 points, good enough for fourth on
the all-time performance list. Her best performance came in the High Jump portion of the event
when she cleared the bar at 1.54m, good enough for fourth in that event. She also placed seventh
in the Shot Put leg with a toss of 9.63m.
Hope McQueeney was just two spots away from scoring her first career points at the conference
meet, coming up one spot shy of qualifying for the final in the Long Jump. McQueeney – who set
the program record in the Long Jump one week ago – finished with a jump of 5.24m. Haley
Schaller also finished highly in her event, taking 11th in the 5000m with a huge PR run of
18:56.29. Schaller previously set a PR last week at Kent State with a time of 19:07.30, but today
marked her first sub-19 5000m run in college.
In the 4x800m Relay, Spears, Letizia Collini, Sullivan and Gates took 10th with a time of
10:20.93. Shelly Jones and Emma Pesicka made their debuts at the conference meet in the Weight
Throw, placing 25th and 26th, respectively.

GLENVILLE, WV - Heading into day two of the PSAC / Mountain East Challenge the Clarion
baseball team faced off against Wheeling University for a single nine inning contest at the Sue
Morris Sports Complex in Glenville, West Virginia. The Golden Eagles fell by a final score of 10-7
after being out hit by the Cardinals 11 to 8.
Like clockwork, Clarion struck early in the top of the first scoring one run on two hits. Chandler
Palyas doubled to put himself into scoring position early and later scored on a Dan Fox single a few
batters later.
Although striking early the Golden Eagles stranded three base runners in the opening frame, a
pattern that would see Clarion stranding a total of 11 base runners all game long.
Leading 1-0 until the bottom of the second, the Golden Eagles seen the lead disappear on a six hit
and seven run explosion, taking command 7-1 in the early innings.

Clarion answered with a run of their own in the top of the third. Palyas opened the inning with a
double and Thomas Lavin smacked a double of his own scoring Palyas from second making the
score 7-2. The Blue and Gold scored one more run when Lavin scored on a wild pitch pulling Clarion
back within four.
Holding the Cardinal offense in check Clarion scored one more run in the top of the fourth after Tim
Irons homered to deep right field putting Clarion within striking distance down three.
Wheeling answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth pushing the lead 9-5 and one more
run in the bottom of the seventh giving the Cardinals a commanding 10-4 lead.
The Golden Eagles wouldn't go away quietly though, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth
threatening the Cardinal lead. Will Constantin lead off with a walk and Irons followed that up with a
double. With runners at second and third base Cole Shaffer walked to load the bases and Matt
Privette was able to plate Constantin with a ground out.
Irons crossed the plate a few pitches later on a wild pitch putting Clarion down four. After a Palyas
ground out that scored Shaffer, Clarion was down just 10-7.
Clarion threatened with runners on second and first in the top of the ninth but was unable to push
any runs across as the Cardinals grabbed the win 10-7.
Clarion will return to action tomorrow in the last day of the PSAC / Mountain East Challenge when
they take on host school Glenville State at 1 pm.

MATCHUP HISTORY
GLENVILLE, WV - Heading to Glenville, West Virginia for day one of the PSAC / Mountain East
Challenge, the Clarion baseball team picked up their first win of the season and the first of head
coach Doc Neiman's career, defeating Concord 7-6 on Friday afternoon.
Like they have all season long, the Clarion offense struck in the early innings. The Golden Eagles
picked up one run in the top of the first inning after an Alex Ficorilli single scored Matt Privette who
led the inning off with a double.
Concord answered though with a run of their own in the bottom frame of the inning, scoring one run
on a sac-fly to left field that scored Andrew Stehlin who reached on an error to start the inning.
Tied at one a piece the Golden Eagle bats exploded in the top of the second inning scoring five runs
on four hits. The inning started with a Will Constantin single, then a Ben Barth single through the

right side. After a Cole Shaffer walk the bases were loaded for Privette who singled scoring
Constantin and Barth making the score 3-1.
Chandler Palyas cleared the bases for Clarion in the very next at bat hitting a three run bomb, his
first of the season, deep over the right field wall and scoreboard making the score 6-1.
With Clarion holding a commanding five run lead, Concord scored two runs in the bottom of the
second on a Jake Adkins single and a bases loaded hit by pitch, cutting the Golden Eagle lead to
three.
The score remained a 6-3 ballgame in favor of the Blue and Gold until the top of the fifth inning when
Clarion tacked on one insurance run. Dan Fox singled through the left side scoring Ficorilli who
reached on an error earlier in the inning.
The Mountain Lions would battle in the late innings, picking up three runs in the bottom of the sixth
to put them within striking distance down one at 7-6.
Bryan Layton slammed the door on the Concord attack though starting in the seventh inning, striking
out the side. From then on Layton struck out the next three of the eight batters that he faced, almost
single handedly taking the sails out of the Mountain Lion attack,
Bryce Grenet tallied the win for the Golden Eagles, tossing six innings of six run baseball, striking
out three and walking just two.
Layton tossed three innings of scoreless baseball striking out six and allowing two hits.
Palyas and Privette paced the Golden Eagle offense with Palyas racking up three RBI's on two hits,
while Privette picked up two RBI's on two hits.
Clarion will be back in action tomorrow in day two of the PSAC / Mountain East Challenge when they
take on Wheeling at 3:30 at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.

NCAA Announces Coaches' Rankings,
Allocations

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released coaches' panel rankings and ratings percentage index (RPI)
rankings for the 2019-20 wrestling season today. Three Golden Eagle wrestlers - Brock
Zacherl, Greg Bulsak and Ty Bagoly - appeared in the national rankings for the third straight cycle,
while all three also appeared in the RPI. The final rankings will be one of the criteria used as part of
the selection process to determine qualifiers and seeding for the 2020 NCAA Division I Wrestling
Championships on March 19-21 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches
from each of the seven conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, EIWA, MAC, Pac-12 and SoCon), which
is double the voters that had previously been used for the coaches' panel rankings. For ranking
purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a
respective weight class. Wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I
opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days to be ranked.
The RPI is a calculation that considers a wrestler's winning percentage, opponent winning
percentage (strength of schedule) and opponent's opponent winning percentage (opponent's
strength of schedule). Only matches against Division I opponents at the designated weight class
count towards the RPI and a wrestler needs to have wrestled 15 matches to be ranked.
Brock Zacherl (11th in Coaches Panel | 14th in RPI) - Zacherl closed the regular season on a 12match win streak, posting a 20-3 overall record, a 13-1 record in dual matches and a perfect 11-0
mark against Mid-American Conference competition. Earlier this year he placed seventh at the Cliff
Keen Las Vegas Invitational with a win over Nebraska's Collin Purinton, and he owns wins over five
wrestlers ranked in the most current poll. Zacherl earned his 112th career win in a team victory over
Edinboro last weekend, moving him into sole possession of 16th place on the all-time wins list at
Clarion.
Greg Bulsak (12th in Coaches Panel | 8th in RPI) - Bulsak owns a 23-5 record on the season,
including a 14-2 record in dual matches and a 10-1 record in MAC action. He leads Clarion with
nine wins by fall and five major decisions, and earlier this year placed sixth at the Cliff Keen Las
Vegas Invitational. His resume includes victories over a number of other competitors appearing on
the list such as eighth-ranked Jay Aiello (Virginia),14th-ranked Tanner Sloan (South Dakota State),
16th-ranked Ethan Laird (Rider) and 21st-ranked Tanner Orndorff (Utah Valley). Bulsak also checked
in at first in the most recent MAC coaches' rankings for 197 pounds.
Ty Bagoly (28th in Coaches Panel | 23rd in RPI) - Bagoly owns a 16-5 overall record, including a
12-3 record in duals and an 8-3 record in MAC duals. He accomplished all this in his first season as
the Golden Eagles' starting heavyweight, and has already surpassed his entire wins total from the

2018-19 season. His impressive wins on the season include a decision over Northern Illinois's Max
Ihry on November 24, followed by a pinfal over 26th-ranked Thomas Penola of Purdue.
In addition to the most recent batch of rankings, the NCAA also released the automatic qualifier
allocations for this year's conference tournaments. The MAC's breakdown is as follows:
125 – 3
133 – 5
141 – 5
149 – 5
157 – 6
165 – 2
174 – 4
184 – 3
197 – 4
285 – 4
Total - 41

The 2020 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place February 29 – March 1 in
Edinboro, Pa. at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports & Rec Dome. The Golden Eagle track & field squad
will be represented in eight individual events and all three relays over the course of the weekend.
The field events will see the largest contingent of Clarion athletes. The duo of Shelly
Jones and Emma Pesicka will compete in both the Weight Throw and the Shot Put, and likely have
the best opportunity to score in the latter. Jones enters the weekend with the fourth-best Shot Put
performance in the conference, a 12.62m toss at the Al Hall Freedom Games in January. Pesicka is
on the cusp of the top-8 with a 12.38m toss at Youngstown State in December.
In the jump events, Hope McQueeney qualified for both the Long Jump and the Triple Jump, and is
coming off setting a Clarion record in the former just last week. She recorded a mark of 5.49m in the
Long Jump at Kent State on February 22, the top performance in program history, and her Triple
Jump of 11.28m set in January is the seventh-best mark in the conference thus far. Jenna
Uncapher will compete in two events as well, taking the field in both the High Jump and the
Pentathlon.
McQueeney was not the only Golden Eagle to set a school record this spring, as Alice Fernald also
broke a school mark in the 400m. Last year's runner-up at the PSAC Championships, Fernald
blazed her way to a school record 58.41 at the YSU Mid-Major Invite on January 31. She enters the
weekend with the seventh-best 400m run in the conference this season.
Also competing individually on the track will be Haley Schaller, who hit a qualifying mark in the
5000m in her final opportunity to do so. She qualified with a time of 19:07.30 at the Kent State
Tune-Up last Saturday, setting a new PR in the process.

to Nationally Ranked IUP

CLARION, Pa. - Closing out the 2019-20 season at home inside Tippin Gym, the Clarion Men's
Basketball team fell to PSAC West top ranked and nationally ranked IUP Wednesday night by a
final score of 101-49.
A season that welcomed a new coaching staff, the loss moves the Golden Eagles to 5-23 on the
season and 3-18 in the PSAC West. The Crimson Hawks improve to 24-2 overall and 19-2 in PSAC
with one game left to play before the start of the PSAC tournament.
Clarion started the game on a high note, proving tough in the paint, with Jordan Agyemang blocking
a Chucky Humphries layup in the first possession. Godspower Ogide followed that up with a block of
his own the very next IUP possession, blocking a Malik Miller jumper.
Elijah Cottrill put the first Clarion points on the board at the 17:54 mark knocking down a contested
jumper to pull Clarion back within a three pointer.
Trading three's for two's, IUP built a quick commanding lead in the first half, building a 26 point
advantage after a Humphries three at the 10:35 mark in the half.
Building on the hot hand of Malik Miller, IUP built a lead as large as 35 points before the half closed
as, taking a 60-25 lead into the break.
The Golden Eagles shot 36% from the field in the first half and 25% from beyond the arc. IUP shot
lights out, capitalizing on 20 of 34 (59%) shots from the field and 5 of 12 (61%) from beyond the arc.
Clarion started the half with a Kaison Branch layup, but IUP picked up right where they left off in the
first half with a Miller jumper building the lead back to 62-27.
The Blue and Gold continued to battle though cutting the lead to 69-36 on a Jake Anderson layup,
but the Crimson Hawk attack was too blistering to smolder. IUP built a lead as large as 54 points
before the final outcome of 101-49.
Kass Taylor had a positive impact on the Clarion attack in the second half, putting in solid minutes
off of the bench in relief. In 19 minutes of work, Taylor scored a team high 12 points on 3 of 5
shooting, including 2 of 3 from the free throw line, while grabbing two boards and adding two blocks.
For the game Clarion shot 28% (17-61) from the field and 79% (11-14) from the charity stripe. On
the other side of the ball IUP shot 51% (34-67) from field goal range and 53% (16-30) from beyond

the arc.
For IUP Miller paved the way with 20 points on 8 of 16 shooting, while grabbing a team high nine
rebounds.

Women's Hoops Falls to Nationally-Ranked
IUP in Finale

CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagle women's basketball team concluded their 2019-20 season
against nationally-ranked IUP, with Clarion falling 77-46 to the #8/9 Crimson Hawks at Tippin
Gymnasium on Wednesday. Clarion finishes their season with a 4-24 overall record, 2-20 in PSAC
competition.
The Golden Eagles came flying out of the gate, taking an 18-10 lead on the Crimson Hawks at the
end of the first quarter. Clarion shot 46.7 percent from the field in the first quarter and shut down the
IUP offense, holding them to just a 28.6 field goal percentage in the first 10 minutes of action. From
there the Crimson Hawks responded, building a huge advantage over the course of the final three
quarters.
Emily Hegedus was a threat from the field as well as the free throw line, scoring her team-high 17
points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. Yasmin Lewis gritted out a
10-point, five-rebound performance through 33 minutes and also blocked a pair of shots.
The Crimson Hawks were proficient shooting from the field, going 33-of-62 for a 53.2 field goal
percentage. In turn, they held the Golden Eagles to just a 30.9 field goal percentage and outscored
them at a proficient clip in the second half. IUP also won the rebounding battle by a 40-32 margin.
The teams traded the first four buckets of the evening, with Ke'Airah Massiah breaking the rhythm
with a transition layup at the 6:01 mark. She ripped the ball from Lexi Griggs and took it the other
way for a basket to make it 6-4, and Neely Whitehead drained a midrange jumper at the 4:58 mark
to up the lead to 8-4. A modest 6-0 run by the Golden Eagles late in the period gave them a 16-8
advantage, with Hegedus and Massiah doing the majority of the damage in the run. Hegedus sank
a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter to give the Golden Eagles an 18-10
lead.
The rest of the game belonged to the Crimson Hawks, though, as IUP did a good job hampering the
Golden Eagle offense. They quickly erased the eight-point deficit and took a 21-20 lead with 6:42
remaining in the second quarter, but Clarion briefly re-took the lead on Celeste Ryman's jumper at
the 3:14 mark. IUP took the lead for good with 1:11 left in the half on a three-pointer by Natalie
Myers, and Justina Mascaro scored on IUP's final possession to give the Crimson Hawks a 34-29
lead at the half. They continued to extend that lead in the second half, leading by 22 at the end of
the third quarter before going ahead by as many as 31 in the fourth.

Wrestling Closes Regular Season With Win
at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Golden Eagle wrestling team clinched their second 10-win season in three
years with a close win on Sunday, with Clarion hanging on for a 17-16 win over Edinboro at
McComb Fieldhouse. With the win, Clarion finishes the dual match season with a 10-6 overall
record, and a 7-4 record in Mid-American Conference action.
The victory finished off Clarion's third straight season with a dual match record of .500 or better, the
first time the team has done that since a nine-month stretch that started in the 1970s and continued
into the next decade. It is just the third 10+ win season for the Golden Eagles since 2007-08, with
the last one coming during the 2017-18 season.
In addition, the win today marks a rare distinction for Clarion. The Golden Eagles have defeated

list, and four wins behind Kurt Angle for 13th. Zacherl prevailed in a tight match against Tyler Vath to
open the dual, scoring a takedown late in the third period for the 3-1 decision.
Mike Bartolo was the next to win with a win by decision over Derek Ciavarro, downing him by a 9-6
score to put Clarion ahead 6-3. It was the third straight win for Bartolo, who improved his record to
10-9 overall on the season. Greg Bulsak won his 12th straight match in the 197-pound bout, holding
off Dylan Reynolds and taking him down late for an 8-4 decision. Bulsak has not lost a match this
calendar year, with his last loss coming during the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in December.
After John Spaulding eked out a 3-1 decision over Ty Bagoly in the heavyweight bout, Jake
Gromacki scored a huge win at 125 pounds in beating Lucas Rodriguez. He recorded the only
takedown of the bout early in the first period and prevailed in the tight bout for a 3-0
decision. Cameron Butler accepted a forfeit at 133 pounds, putting the Golden Eagles ahead for the

Baseball Drops Two in Cary, NC

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
CARY, NC. – Playing their first games of the weekend after inclement weather yesterday, the
Clarion University baseball team went 0-2 Saturday afternoon in double-header action, dropping
the opening matchup to Frostburg State in extra innings 2-1, and dropping the second game to
Goldey-Beacom 7-3. The two losses moves Clarion's overall record to 0-6 on the season. The Blue
and Gold will close out the weekend tomorrow when they take on Tiffin at 10 am at the USA
Baseball Complex.
Game 1
Clarion jumped out to an early lead in game one as scoring came at a rarity all game long. The
Golden Eagles opened up scoring in the first inning, when Matt Privette was able to score after an
error by the Bobcat left fielder. Privette singled to start the game and advanced to second on a wild
pitch the very next action.
Frostburg State was quick to answer the call though as a leadoff double in the bottom of the first put
the Bobcats in a position to tie the game. After Brett Fogle managed to get to third on a fielder's
choice, he scored on the next at bat after a Ryan Roell Sac-Fly tied the game at one all.
From that point on it was a pitcher's duel as both teams would go scoreless into the bottom frame of
the eleventh inning. Clarion starter Trevor McGee went eight innings of two hit baseball before being
forced from the game. He went on to fan seven Bobcat batters.
On the other side Ben Vok tossed 6.1 innings, allowing five hits and striking out five before his day
was done.
Going into the late innings Clarion had multiple opportunities to put their selves in a position to win
the game but could manufacture the winning run. Clarion had their best opportunity in the top of the
tenth inning when Alex Ficorilli doubled to left field and was able to advance to third after a Thomas
Lavin fly out to right.
Nick Fugh continued the inning with a walk putting runners on the corners. Cole Shaffer loaded the
bases when he was hit by a pitch but Frostburg managed to get out of the inning after Danny
Fox flied out to right field.
On the day Clarion racked up eight hits. Privette and Ficorilli each managed multiple hits for the
Golden Eagles, while Barth led the Blue and Gold with three hits in five at bats. Ficorilli also led the
Golden Eagles with two doubles.
Game 2

Golden Eagles picked up an early lead but fell in the late innings, as Goldey-Beacom took a 7-3
victory over the Blue and Gold.
Clarion picked up two runs in the top of the first inning after Barth and Lavin managed to navigate
their ways around the bases to give Clarion they early 2-0 advantage. Goldey-Beacom answered
with a run of their own in the bottom frame of the inning after a pair of walks and a single put GoldeyBeacom in scoring position.

McQueeney Breaks Long Jump Record at
Kent State Tune-Up

Story Links

FULL RESULTS
KENT, Ohio – Hope McQueeney broke a five-year-old school record in the Long Jump on Saturday,
highlighting an exciting day at the Kent State Tune-Up. The event was the final meet before the
Golden Eagles head to the PSAC Championships a week from today.
McQueeney popped the best jump of her college career in her second attempt on Saturday, clearing
a mark of 5.49m to set a new Clarion record in the event. Her jump shattered her previous PR of
5.35m, as well as Jessica Shomo's previous record of 5.41m set in 2015. The mark of 5.49m would
rank 10th in the PSAC based on the year-to-date results entering this weekend. McQueeney's jump
ranked sixth in the field, and the freshman also placed 10th in the Triple Jump with a 10.98m.
There were highlights on the track as well, with distance runners Haley Schaller and Allison
Gates standing out in the 5000m. Schaller placed second with a time of 19:07.30 to qualify for the
PSAC Championships next week, beating the qualifying mark by six seconds. It also shattered her
previous PR in the event, a 19:26.47 set earlier this year at Youngstown State.
Gates just narrowly missed out on the PSAC qualifying mark but set her own PR in the 5000m,
placing seventh with a 19:14.78. Her performance on Saturday blew away her previous indoor
5000m PR, with Gates improving by nearly two full minutes.
The Golden Eagles will compete at the PSAC Championships hosted by Edinboro next
weekend. Six different athletes will represent them in seven events.

faced off against PSAC West opponent the Vulcans of Cal U Saturday afternoon, falling by a final
score of 79-54. The Golden Eagles will end their season Wednesday, against PSAC foe IUP. Tip-off
is slated for 7:30 pm.
The Vulcans gained an early lead, scoring 15 points in the first eight minutes of the ballgame as
Clarion was never able to recover.
The Golden Eagles pulled the game back to within single digits after a Stevan Rodriguez layup
found its way into the basket, making the score 15-7 in favor of the Vulcans. Unfortunately that is as
close as the ball game would get, with Cal U building the lead to as big as 23 points in the first half.
The Vulcans would take a 38-15 lead in to the half on the backs of Luke House and Brent Pegram.
Jaiquil Johnson paced the Golden Eagles offense all game long, scoring 18 points on 5-10 shooting

and two rebounds in 18 minutes of action. Rodriguez added six points and six rebounds, while Kass
Taylor, Elijah Cottrill and Jordan Agyemang all added five points for the Blue and Gold. RedshirtSenior Jake Anderson picked up quality minutes in the contest making his first start of the season.
Anderson contributed four points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
To start the second half Godspower Ogide made a quick layup off an assist from Cottrill, but Tim
Smith Jr. answered immediately with a three for the Vulcans. The long ball was the story of the day
for the Vulcans as they went 18-37 (49%) from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles shot 28% on the
day compared to Cal's 43%, while shooting just 17% from beyond the arc.
For Cal U Jermaine Hall Jr. scored a game-high 21 points, while Phillip Alexander added 16
points. House grabbed a game-high 13 boards and added nine points for the Vulcans.
The loss moves the Blue and Gold to 5-22 on the year, 3-17 in PSAC play, while the Vulcans
improve to 18-8, 14-6 in PSAC play.
Clarion will end their 2019-20 season on Wednesday, February 26th, when they host the IUP

break as well, outscoring Clarion 20-2 in quick transition situations. Olivia Hudson came off the
bench to lead Cal U with 16 points on the afternoon.

ERIE Pa. – Ending a short two game road stint in Erie, the Clarion Men's Basketball team fell to the
Gannon Golden Knights by a final score of 71-51 Wednesday evening at the Hammermill Center.
The loss moves the Golden Eagles to 5-21 overall and 4-16 in the PSAC, while Gannon improves to
13-11 (12-18).
Jordan Agyemang scored the opening basket of the game on a layup and that is the last time that
the Golden Eagles would lead all game. It was all Gannon from the jump as the Golden Knights
opened the game on a 7-2 run.
The offense would settle down though as Clarion managed to stay within striking distance most of
the first half. Godspower Ogide made his presence in the paint felt early as he had eight of his
career high 14 points in the first half.

Clarion went in to the half trailing 39-20 on the back of jumper by Golden Knight Michael Tertsea
with just 16 seconds remaining in the half.
The Golden Eagles shot 32% from the field in the first frame and 29% from beyond the arc, while
Gannon shot a hot 59% from the field but just a minuscule 13% from deep.
In the second half the Blue and Gold continued to feed Ogide as the first basket of the second was
more points in the paint, but the Golden Knights continued to push the tempo and make basket after
basket. Mid way through the second half Gannon built a lead as large as 26 points, but Clarion
continued to claw back.
After a good layup by Stevan Rodriguez and a pair of free throws from Kaison Branch, Clarion cut
the lead to 22 points with just over nine minutes left to play.
Gannon would go on another short run towards the end of the game building the lead back up to 26
points, but again Clarion would battle back and again Rodriguez started the run scoring the next six
points.
After a Rodriguez layup, a Sheriff Conteh steal that lead to another Rodriquez layup, Clarion cut the
lead to 67-45. Rodriguez scored again at the 3:46 mark cutting the Gannon lead to just 20 points.
That is all the closer Clarion would get though as the Golden Knights sailed to a 71-51 victory.
On the game Clarion shot 33% from the field and 71% from the charity stripe, while scoring 30 points
in the paint.
Rodriguez paced the Golden Eagles with 16 points and three rebounds, while Ogide scored a career
high 14 points and grabbed a team-high six boards and one block.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, February 22nd for Senior Day, as they host

scoring.
Gannon shot better than 60 percent from the field and had a healthy night from the free throw line,
outscoring Clarion there 14-7. They also won the rebound battle 37-24 in winning their 20th game of
the year.

The game started with a 13-4 run by the Golden Knights, with Haley Tewes adding a pair of free
throws three minutes in to cap off the rally. They expanded the lead to double-digits before the end
of the quarter, with Haille Hart scoring a layup before the end of the period. She scored again at the
7:54 mark of the second quarter to cut the lead to 27-17, but the Golden Knights bumped the
advantage to 20 points heading into the halftime break.
Clarion righted the ship somewhat in the third quarter, keeping it fairly even with the Golden
Knights. Hegedus scored the first bucket of the third, taking a feed from Massiah and laying it in,
and Boocks drilled a three-pointer off a pass from Neely Whitehead to make it 50-31. Lewis made a
midrange jumper to cut it to 56-41 with 2:26 left in the period, but Gannon scored six straight to
make it 62-41 heading into the fourth. They swelled that lead slightly to finish off the game.

Greg Bulsak Named MAC East Wrestler of
the Week

CLEVELAND,Ohio - For the third time this season, Clarion junior Greg Bulsak earned the MidAmerican Conference (MAC) East Wrestler of the Week honor after two stellar performances against
Kent State and Rider. He previously received the distinction on November 6th and December 11th.
Bulsak improved to 9-1 in MAC duals with a pair of wins last week, including a victory over
nationally-ranked Ethan Laird as the Golden Eagles earned a split in Conference action. He started
his weekend with a 6-1 decision over Kent State's Colin McCracken on Friday night, helping the
Golden Eagles to a 30-8 win over the Golden Flashes. That snapped a nine-match losing streak to
Kent State and represented Clarion's first win over the Golden Flashes since the 2000-01 season.
He followed that up with a virtuoso performance on Sunday against Rider's Ethan Laird, who entered
the weekend ranked 12th in the most recent NCAA coaches' panel. Bulsak dominated Laird in an 81 decision to improve to 22-5 overall and 13-2 in duals.
The Golden Eagles will close their dual match season on Sunday, February 23 when they face off
with Edinboro on the road. The match will start at 1 p.m.

Wrestling Starts Fast but Falls to Broncs 2513

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Clarion wrestling team won four bouts on Sunday but were unable to
upset the top team in the MAC East division, as the Golden Eagles fell to Rider 25-13 in a
conference road match. Clarion (9-6, 6-4 MAC East) will close their dual match schedule in exactly
one week when they travel to Edinboro.
The overall bout was closer than the final score might indicate, as the teams were neck and neck
through the first six matches. The Golden Eagles led 10-9 after Mike Bartolo's sudden victory win
over Gary Dinmore at 165 pounds, but the Broncs won three of the last four matches of the day –
two by fall – to record the team win.
Fifteenth-ranked Greg Bulsak scored a significant win at 197 pounds, defeating 12th-ranked Ethan
Laird by an 8-1 decision. Laird entered the weekend ranked above Bulsak both in national ranking
as well as in the conference coaches' poll, with the former ranked first and the latter second in the
most recent release. Bulsak won the battle of the presumed top-two 197-pounders by taking Laird
down early in the first period and riding him for more than two minutes to build a sizable
advantage. He dominated the rest of the bout thereafter, with Laird managing only an escape.
If Bulsak's win was significant for what it could mean for this season, then Brock Zacherl's decision
over Gino Fluri at 149 pounds held a deeper meaning as far as his overall career. The decision over
Fluri was the 111th win in Zacherl's career, moving him past four-time All-American Bryan Stout on
Clarion's all-time wins list and into a tie for 16th with Dan Payne and Ken Haselrig. All three of those
former Golden Eagles are members of the Clarion Sports Hall of Fame.
Jake Gromacki won for the seventh time in his last eight matches, leading the dual off with a major
decision over Jonathon Tropea. The sixth-year senior worked Tropea for a 15-4 result to put the
Golden Eagles ahead 4-0. Zacherl put Clarion back in the lead 7-6 after the 149-pound bout, and
Bartolo rallied from a large deficit in the 165-pound match to beat Gary Dinmore. Dinmore led the
bout 4-1 in the first period but Bartolo continued to chip away at him, wearing Dinmore down and
scoring a quick takedown in sudden victory. The win evened Bartolo's season record at 9-9.

Baseball Closes Opening Weekend at Erskine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DUE WEST, SC. – Traveling to South Carolina to close out the opening weekend against Erksine,
the Clarion baseball team dropped both halves of a doubleheader to the Fighting Fleet. The Golden
Eagles now 0-4 overall, fell by a score of 14-2 in the first game and by a 4-3 score in the second.
Kyler Mellott (0-1) fell in the early game, allowing five runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Dereck
Pritchard (0-1) took the loss in the second game throwing 5.0 innings, allowing four runs and striking
out two. Nick Fugh, Thomas Lavin and Chandler Palyas drove in runs on the day, with Lavin going
1-of-3 in the second game.
The Fighting Fleet tacked on three runs in the bottom of the first, but Clarion answered with a run of
their own in the top of the second thanks to Will Constantin who scored when Dan Fox tried to steal
second. Clarion scored another run in the top of the third to cut the lead to 3-2 when Fugh singled
scoring Ben Barth from third who singled earlier in the inning.
Erskine answered with two runs in the fourth to build a 5-2 lead and four runs in the bottom of the
fifth to put the game 1 out of reach.
The Fighting Fleet came alive for five runs in the sixth inning, and the Golden Eagles were unable to
claw their way back.
The Golden Eagles finished game one with three hits, while committing no errors in the field. Unable
to move runners around the bases due to the Erskine pitching, the Golden Eagles stranded six
runners on base.
Much like game one, Erskine scored plenty early in the ballgame. The Fleet opened the game with
four runs in the bottom of the first inning putting the Clarion bats to the test. The Blue and Gold
answered the call scoring one run in the top of third thanks to a Palyas grounder that scored
Constantin who walked to lead off the inning.
The Golden Eagle offense kept things rolling in the top of the fourth scoring two runs off a Lavin
homer, his first of the young season.
From that point on it was a pitchers dual as neither team was able to push another run across the
plate as the final score ended 4-3.

Clarion had their chances stranding six runners for the second time in as many games, unable to
push a run across.
Clarion will be back in action next weekend when they head to Cary, NC to take on Frostburg State
University on February 21, Goldey-Beacom on February 22 and Tiffin on February 23.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Clarion men's basketball team faced its toughest test of the late season
on Saturday, falling by a score of 78-52 to Pitt-Johnstown at the Johnstown Sports Center. The
Golden Eagles fall to 5-20 overall and 4-15 in PSAC play, while UPJ improves to 20-6 overall and
14-5 in the PSAC. Clarion will try to rebound on Wednesday when they head to Gannon to take on
the Golden Knights.
Both teams suffered from huge amounts of turnovers, Clarion committing 17 giveaways, while the
Mountain Cats had 11 turnovers. Pitt-Johnstown was able to convert those Golden Eagle mistakes
though, outscoring Clarion 18-9 in points off turnovers. The Bald Eagles also shot lights-out from
beyond the three-point line, going 8-of-9 (42%).
Elijah Cottrill had a team-high 12 points in 30 minutes played, followed by Kaison Branch, who had
11 points. Godspower Ogide proved tough in the paint for the third straight game tallying seven
points, three boards and two blocks. Stevan Rodriguez came off the bench to score six points and
grab four rebounds, while James Price added six points in relief.

Clarion opened the game with a layup from Ogide but the Mountain Cats were ready to pounce
going on an 8-0 in the first three minutes of the game. UPJ built the lead to as large as 21 points
throughout the first half after Donovian Maxfield made a layup in the paint.
Clarion answered the bell with a three pointer from Branch but Adam Kline answered with a pair of
free throws and the end of the half to give the Mountain Cats a 48-28 lead heading into the halftime
break.
Branch started the second half much like he ended the first hitting a three pointer to try and spark
the Clarion offense but the lead was just too insurmountable.
The lead continued to quickly increase to the high double-digits but Clarion responded again late,
cutting it to 68-46 on a jumper beyond the arc by Cottrill. The Mountain Cats kept the offensive
pressure though as the lead continued to grow. UPJ led by as many as 28 points with just over one
minute left to play in the game until Kass Taylor scored the last four points of the game on a pair of
free throws and a layup.
Clarion heads to Erie to take on Gannon on February 19. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team made a late push but was unable to
completely close the gap against Pitt-Johnstown, as the Golden Eagles fell 68-59 to the Mountain
Cats on the road on Saturday afternoon. Clarion (4-21, 2-17 PSAC) will be back on the road on
Wednesday against Gannon before closing their season with two straight home games.
Celeste Ryman went 6-of-17 from the field for a game-high 16 points, while also adding three
rebounds and three assists. Yasmin Lewis added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds,
and Emily Hegedus broke double-digits in scoring for the third time in the last five games with 14
points.
Both teams shot the ball well from the floor, with Clarion going 40.0 percent from the field and PittJohnstown 48.3 percent. On the flip side, both teams turned the ball over fairly regularly, with the

Golden Eagles committing 19 turnovers and the Mountain Cats 18 times. UPJ was slightly more

The Mountain Cats opened the game on an 8-2 run and led for the entire contest, though Lewis cut
Pitt-Johnstown's lead to 12-10 midway through the first quarter, scoring off a pass from
Hegedus. The lead expanded to 12 points in the second quarter, but Hegedus made a pair of free

Wrestling Snuffs Golden Flashes, 30-8

CLARION, Pa. – The Golden Eagle wrestling team clinched a winning dual season with a dominant
effort over Kent State on Friday, as Clarion defeated the Golden Flashes 30-8 at Tippin
Gym. Clarion (9-5, 6-3 MAC East) took eight of the 10 bouts to claim their first win over Kent State
since the 2000-01 season, snapping a nine-match losing streak to the Golden Flashes.
Brock Zacherl wrestled the final home dual of his Clarion career, defeating Kody Komara 3-2 in the
149-pound bout. The 12th-ranked wrestler in the most recent NCAA coaches' panel, Zacherl earned
the distinction of an undefeated home dual record. He went 44-0 as an attached wrestler at home,
and his victory over Komara marked the first win of the night for the Golden Eagles.
It would not be the last, though, as Clarion powered past the Golden Flashes, winning a number of
close decisions to seal the win. Christian Sequete had one such decision, earning the first home
dual win of his career with a 4-3 decision over Shane Mast. The win halted Kent State's momentum
after they had scored their second major decision over the evening, and it put Clarion ahead 12-8 in
the team match. The Golden Flashes never threatened the team score again as Greg
Bulsak followed up with a 6-1 decision to Colin McCracken in the 197-pound bout.
Ty Bagoly locked up the team victory with a win by fall at 285 pounds, tossing Spencer Berthold to
his back and pinning him just 45 seconds into the first period to make it a 21-8 advantage. Jake
Gromacki followed up with a 6-5 decision over Tomas Guitierrez. Also recording wins were Taylor
Ortz, who returned to the lineup at 157 pounds for a 10-6 win over Brady Chrisman, and Mike
Bartolo, who beat Kade Byland by 12-8 decision.

Baseball Swept by Erskine

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Marion, N.C. - The Clarion University baseball team dropped both games in Friday double-header
action against Erskine by scores of 11-8 and 4-1. The losses move the Golden Eagles to 0-2 (0-0
PSAC) on the season. The Blue and Gold return to action tomorrow when they head to Due West,
South Carolina to close the series with Erskine.
The Fighting Fleet took game one on the backs of a big first inning, scoring 6 runs to open up a gap
over the Golden Eagles.
Clarion struck in the top of the second courtesy of a single from sophomore first-baseman Dan Fox
that scored Thomas Lavin who walked to lead off the inning cutting the lead to 6-1. However the
Erskine bats would continue to cause trouble all game long for the Golden Eagles. They would add
four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning putting them in a commanding lead before closing out the
11-8 win.
Clarion battled in the late innings, scoring seven runs in the top of fifth inning thanks to doubles
from Alex Ficorilli, Nick Fugh and Chandler Palyas. Lavin ended the game with two singles in game
one, while Ficorilli, Palyas and Fugh all roped a double. Kyle Thompson got the no on the hill for
Clarion going three innings and striking out two.
Game two featured a change in pace from the high-scoring affairs of game one, with both teams
locked in a good, old-fashioned pitcher's duel to start the game.
Starter Bryce Grenet was proficient, going 5.0 innings with four strikeouts, giving up just two walks
and six hits in the night cap. Clarion struck first in the top of the first inning when Ficorilli grounded
into a double play but was able to score Ben Barth who singled to left field to start the inning.
Erskine starter C. Harri tossed a gem, going a complete seven innings with three K's and seven hits
on the night.
Erskine scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to regain the lead and never looked back
from that point on. They tacked on two more insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the
victory.
The Golden Eagles will conclude their weekend road-trip tomorrow, February 15, when they take on
the Fighting Fleet in games three and four of the series. First pitch is slated for noon.

Three Golden Eagles Appear in Feb. 24
Coaches Ranking, NCAA RPI

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA released coaches' panel rankings and ratings percentage index
(RPI) rankings for the 2019-20 wrestling season today. Three Golden Eagle wrestlers - Brock
Zacherl, Greg Bulsak and Ty Bagoly - appeared in the national rankings for the second straight
cycle, while all three also appeared in the RPI. The final rankings will be one of the criteria used as
part of the selection process to determine qualifiers and seeding for the 2020 NCAA Division I
Wrestling Championships on March 19-21 at U.S.
Brock Zacherl (12th in Coaches Panel | 11th in RPI) - Zacherl enters the penultimate weekend of
the dual match season with a 17-3 overall record at 149 pounds, including a 10-1 mark in dual
matches and an 8-0 record in MAC competition. Earlier this year he placed seventh at the Cliff Keen
Las Vegas Invitational with a win over Nebraska's Collin Purinton, and he owns wins over five
wrestlers ranked in the most current poll. Zacherl earned his 100th career win earlier this year and
owns a career mark of 109-15 entering matches against Kent State and Rider this weekend.
Greg Bulsak (15th in Coaches Panel | 11th in RPI) - Bulsak owns a 21-5 record on the season,
including an 11-2 record in dual matches and a 5-1 record in MAC action. He ranks 10th in the

CLARION, Pa. – Making a return to their home court for the first time in two games, the Clarion
men's basketball team delivered a 79-70 victory over visiting Edinboro, Wednesday evening.
The Fighting Scots jumped out to an early five-point lead at 25-22 but the Golden Eagles used some
heads up shooting and stellar offense to keep it close taking back the lead 38-36 heading into the
halftime break. Elijah Cottrill paced the Clarion offense in the first half, scoring 14 of his 18 points.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as seven in the first half, but after three pointers from Jarrod
Stukes and Jaiquil Johnson, the Golden Eagle offense started to find a rhythm and snatched all the
momentum out of the gym. Clarion took the lead with just over a minute left in the first half after a
Cottrill three in transition making the score 36-34 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
Godspower Ogide set the tone in the paint racking up three first half blocks, limiting the Fighting
Scots to just 13-36 shots from inside the arc in the opening frame.

Clarion shot 52% from the floor in the first half, getting up and down the floor quickly, helping them
withstand the back and forth battle with Edinboro.
A 7-0 run mid-way through the second half making it 55-48, helped Clarion ultimately take over the
game and shift the momentum completely as the Golden Eagles wouldn't give the lead back to the
Fighting Scots for the duration.
Edinboro remained within striking distance not trailing by more than six points for the rest of the
match but Stevan Rodriguez would take over down the stretch securing the victory for good. With
just over five minutes remaining in the game, Rodriguez scored 12 of the last 18 points proving
unstoppable from the field and the charity stripe.
For the game, Clarion shot 47% from the floor, converting 29 of 62 attempts, including 14 of 19 from
the free throw line.
Rodriguez led the Golden Eagles with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Cottrill finished the night
with 18 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.

CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion women's basketball team dropped a decision at home on Wednesday
evening, falling 82-59 to the Edinboro Fighting Scots at Tippin Gym. The Golden Eagles (4-20, 2-15
PSAC) will be back on the road for two straight games before closing their season with two games at
home against Cal U and IUP.
Clarion started the game by shooting well, going 5-of-12 in the first quarter, but it was Edinboro who
turned things on in the last three quarters, and their offensive prowess made the difference in the
contest. Emily Hegedus led all Clarion players with 13 points, including an efficient 7-of-12 night
from the free throw line. Yasmin Lewis recorded her fifth double-double of the season and second in
as many games with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Celeste Ryman also scored 10 points. Neely
Whitehead made her first career start and contributed eight points, two rebounds and a steal.
The Golden Eagles held the lead for a portion of the first quarter, taking an 8-4 advantage three
minutes in thanks to a fast break basket from Ke'Airah Massiah. Lewis made a jumper from just

inside the arc at the 3:32 mark to keep Clarion ahead 11-10, but Michaela Barnes scored on the
ensuing possession to keep the Fighting Scots ahead for good. Barnes ended up with a game-high
28 points, while teammate Bridgette Shaffer scored 24 points of her own.
Edinboro increased their lead in the second quarter but the game never got out of hand, as Lewis
made jumpers on back-to-back possessions to end the half. Shaffer scored with six seconds left in
the second to put the Fighting Scots ahead 44-31 at the break, but Lewis cut the lead back down to
eight points at the 6:24 mark of the third.
That was the closest Clarion came the rest of the way, though, as the Fighting Scots extended the
lead to as many as 19 points in the period. The advantage eventually cracked the 20-point barrier
and stayed that way through to the conclusion.

ERIE, Pa. – The Golden Eagle women's basketball team had a pair of strong periods bookending
their afternoon, but they were unable to overcome the ground given in the middle quarters in falling
72-65 to Mercyhurst on Saturday. Clarion returns home on Wednesday to host Edinboro in a special
Breast Cancer Awareness game on Feb. 12.
Three Golden Eagles tied for the team-high in scoring, with Celeste Ryman, Ke'Airah

finishing the game 20-of-26. However, the Golden Eagles shot just 1-of-12 from three-point range,
which led in part to some offensive troubles.

Clarion opened the game on a 12-4 run, putting the Lakers back on their heels with a number of
quick strikes. They scored the first six points of the contest and eventually made it a 10-2 lead on a
fast break jumper by Ryman, who scored after Jada Smith blocked Amber Renz's shot on the other
end. Lewis finished off the run with a jumper at the 5:52 mark, and the Golden Eagles eventually
extended the lead to 10 points on two free throws by Ryman. Clarion held a five point lead at the
end of the first quarter, taking a 20-15 advantage in the final minute on a jumper by Lewis.
The Lakers did their damage in the second and third quarters, though, outscoring Clarion 42-22 in
those periods to take a 57-42 lead heading in the final frame. The Golden Eagles chipped away,
cutting the lead to 11 points on two free throws by Ryman, and back down to 10 points on foul shots
by Massiah. Mercyhurst increased the lead to 15 points by Ryman eventually drove it to single digits
by finishing off an and-one with just over a minute to go. It never got closer than two possessions,
though, as the Lakers finished off the win.

Clarion Honors Record 211 Scholar-Athletes
at Annual Luncheon

CLARION, Pa. - Clarion student-athletes have set a new standard for academic excellence in 2019,
as the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on January 31 that 211 student athletes comprising 57 percent of all Golden Eagles - have earned Clarion Scholar-Athlete status. The
record-breaking numbers were announced at the annual Bob Carlson Scholar-Athlete Luncheon,
along with special recognition for members of the Clarion University faculty and staff.
"Our student-athletes' academic accomplishments, and the life and leadership skills they learn
through participation in our athletic programs, are remarkable," said Director of Intercollegiate
Athletics Dr. Wendy Snodgrass. "Congratulations to our student-athletes, our faculty mentors, and
the coaches who support their academic achievements."
To become a Clarion Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have achieved one of the following:
earn a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; attain a 3.2 GPA or higher in two consecutive semesters, in
the previous year's spring semester and this year's fall semester; or, as a freshman or first-year
transfer student, achieve a 3.2 GPA in the fall semester. The previous record for total studentathletes was 183, set in 2017, while the previous record for percentage of student-athletes was 51
percent, matched in each of the last two years. The 2020 numbers blow by both of those
benchmarks, with Golden Eagles nearer to 60 percent in the last year.
Winners of the 2020 Carlson Cup were the Golden Eagle softball team, who posted the best team
GPA improvement in the department. The softball team recorded a team GPA of 3.54 in the fall, with
23 athletes earning Scholar-Athlete status.
In addition to the scholar-athletes, the athletics department also handed out its annual awards to
faculty and staff that have gone above and beyond in aiding student-athletes in the last year. This
year's "Extra Effort" award went to 10 individuals in Clarion's administration - Rein Pold, Robin Bish,
Chad Thomas, Len Cullo, Tim Fogarty, Frank Connelly, Steve Selker, Keith Mohnkern, Lindsay
Johns and Clare Heidler - for their exceptional work in completing the Tippin Gym renovation project.
Retired athletic director and current Sport Management professor Dave Katis was recognized as thie
year's Faculty of the Year award winner, for his work in mentoring so many of our Golden Eagle
student-athletes.
"I am so proud to be part of an institution where people go above and beyond for our studentathletes, and help them complete their impactful work in the classroom and the field of play,"
Snodgrass said.

Fernald Breaks Sprint Record at YSU MidMajor Invitational

Saturday Results
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Alice Fernald broke the school record in the 400m, highlighting an
impressive second day at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational hosted by Youngstown State. The Golden
Eagle track & field team once again saw standout performances in the field, while Fernald's recordbreaking run was the brightest spot on the track on Saturday.
Running in the top heat, Fernald blazed her way to a time of 58.41, breaking her previous PR in the
event by more than a quarter of a second. It was .02 seconds faster than Tatiana Cloud's previous
record of 58.43 set in 2017, and is currently the fifth-fastest 400m time in the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) this year. Fernald placed third in the field behind Division I Youngstown
State's Teneisha Myers and Slippery Rock's Keyonna McGill.
Fernald was also part of a strong effort in the 4x400m Relay that took fifth in the field. She was the
third leg of the relay along with Hunter Barger, Kia Braithwaite and Kaylen Sharrow, and the quartet
posted a time of 4:10.32.
Hope McQueeney built off her strong Long Jump on Friday night with another great performance on
Saturday, posting a PR in the Triple Jump. The freshman took sixth with a leap of 11.28m, which
tied for the second-best indoor Triple Jump in program history. The mark tied Kristen Werder's
second-place mark set in 2003, and trails only Diane Kress's record of 11.52m set in 2009.
In the throwing events, Shelly Jones set the standard with her performance in the Shot Put, tossing
the implement 12.52m. That was good enough for seventh in the field, but third in the field among
non-Division I competitors.

EDINBORO, Pa. – With three placers among their ranks, the Clarion wrestling team posted a sixthplace finish at the 2020 Edinboro Open, with two wrestlers taking fifth place and another sixth in the
midseason event.
Jake Gromacki and Caleb Hetrick posted fifth-place finishes in the 125- and 165-pound brackets
respectively, while freshman John Worthing took sixth place at 157 pounds. In the case of the
former two athletes, they each won each of their first two bouts of the day before dropping a decision
and going into the consolation bracket. Worthing had a first round bye but lost in the second round,
but then went on to win four straight matches before falling in the fifth-place match.
Gromacki started his day with a win over Cleveland State's Cody Moosman, defeating him by a 4-0
decision. He earned the first of two wins on the day against Brandon Spellman, beating him by 9-7
in the second round before falling 7-3 to Ohio State's Dylan Koontz. Now in the consolation bracket,
Gromacki pinned Bucknell's Brandon Seidman 1:22 into the first period, and then beat Navy's
Matthew Cardello to reach the fifth-place match. He faced Spellman in a rematch, this time winning
a low-scoring, 4-2 decision to take the spot.
Hetrick earned a major decision in his first bout, beating Bucknell's Joey Schlele, and followed up
with a 3-1 decision over West Virginia's Patrick Daum. He fell in the quarterfinal round but
rebounded with an 8-5 decision over Central Michigan's Patrick Gross, and then defeated
teammate Jack Peura 13-8 to reach the fifth-place match. A medical forfeit by Dazjon Casto of the
Citadel gave Hetrick the fifth-place finish.
In the case of Worthing, he lost to Lock Haven's Jonathan Ross in his first bout of the day, but went
on to win four straight bouts. He pinned teammate Joe Sliwoski 15 seconds into the third period for
his first win, and then got a decision against West Virginia's Walker Heard. He topped another of his
Golden Eagle teammates in the next round, tech falling Trevor Elfvin by an 18-3 score, and

CLARION, Pa. – Buoyed by a huge effort in the third quarter that built their lead to double digits, the
Clarion women's basketball team held off a fourth quarter surge to defeat Seton Hill 68-66 at Tippin
Gym on Saturday afternoon. The win snapped an eight game-losing streak for the Golden Eagles
(4-17, 2-13 PSAC), who will head on the road for two games next week.
Playing with a shortened bench due to an injury suffered by Yndiah Bobo, the Golden Eagles gutted
out the win against the Griffins with an exceptional defensive effort. They held Seton Hill to just 27of-77 (.351) from the field and only 6-of-26 (.231) from three-point range. Clarion was also
exceptionally efficient with the ball, committing just eight turnovers, and they won the turnover battle
53-51. Two Golden Eagles finished with double-digit boards, with Jada Smith pulling down the
game-high 13 caroms.

Ke'Airah Massiah scored a game-high 18 points, going 6-of-20 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free
throw line. Emily Hegedus broke a string of single-digit scoring performances with her highest points
total since December 3, scoring 14 total points, and Celeste Ryman added 12 points.
Clarion first took the lead with a 7-0 run in the first quarter, with Lewis scoring the go-ahead bucket
at 6:45 and Massiah closing the run with a three-pointer off a feed from Ryman. Hegedus expanded
the lead to seven points with a layup that made it 17-10, and the advantage went as high as nine
points in the first quarter as the Golden Eagles got stop after stop. The Griffins pulled to within one
point late in the second quarter but Haille Hart scored with 44 seconds remaining in the half, giving
Clarion a 34-31 advantage heading into the locker room.
Hart did much of her damage in the second half, with the sophomore forward coming in to produce
eight points, six rebounds and a blocked shot in just 13 total minutes of action. The Golden Eagles
came out hot in the third quarter and built their lead up to 11 points after a midrange jumper by
Massiah, and Ryman kept it at that mark with a jumper to make it 48-37.
The drama poured in during the fourth quarter as the Griffins started to rally, cutting it ot 58-57 at the
7:40 mark on a make by Madelyn Fischer. Sydney Rabold later tied it at 61 with a midrange jumper,
and Lexi Civittolo briefly put Seton Hill ahead as the game entered its final minutes. Ryman put
Clarion back on up 65-64 with a jumper and Massiah extended the lead to three points with just over
two minutes remaining. Katie Nolan pulled Seton Hill to within one point at the 1:55 mark but neither
team scored from the field again, and Massiah hit a free throw with six seconds remaining to set the
final score.

CLARION, Pa. – Clarion's Stevan Rodriguez scored a team high 20 points and grabbed six
rebounds, while picking up two steals, but the Golden Eagles were unable to hold an early lead,
falling at home to Seton Hill on Saturday, 73-67.
Clarion falls to 4-17 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC, while Seton Hill improves to 4-13, 3-11 in the
PSAC.
The Golden Eagles were leading throughout the first half and took a 31-27 lead heading into the
halftime break, shooting 25% from beyond the arc and a staggering 44% from the field. Kaison
Branch lead the way in the first half, scoring eight points on 2-5 shooting.
Elijah Cottrill started the scoring for Clarion taking a pass from Aaron Hilzendeger driving left and
throwing down a dunk over top of two Seton Hill defenders. Clarion built a lead as large as seven in
the first half and held the Griffins to just 27 first half points on 9 of 29 shooting from the field.

The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 46.2% from the floor in the second half of the game, and an
immaculate 45.3% from the field for the entire game.
Clarion commanded the paint the entire game picking up seven blocks and forcing the Griffins
offense to score exclusively from beyond the arc. Godspower Ogide lead the way on the defensive
end picking up four blocks in just 14 minutes of action.
However, Clarion had no answer for Seton Hill's senior guard Nathan Davis, who scored a game
high 29 points on 9 of 17 shooting, while grabbing 10 rebounds. Shooting lights out from three point
range, the Griffins shot 50% from three and an impressive 60% in crunch time in the second half.
Although Clarion won the rebound battle, grabbing 38 boards to Seton Hill's 36 the long ball proved
to be the difference in the game.
Rodriguez led Clarion with 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting, Cottrill added 18 points, while Branch
added 10 points.
Clarion will be back in action on February 5 when they head to Slippery Rock to take on PSAC West
for The Rock. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 pm.
