April is
NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
Spotlight on:
Robert E. Bud Cramer
Why we’re proud of this individual:
Robert E. (Bud) Cramer Jr. (1947- ) is a politician who represented Alabama's Fifth Congressional District for nine terms. Elected in 1990, Cramer held this position until 2008, when he retired
from politics. Before serving in Congress, he had been both the assistant district attorney and
district attorney in Madison County. Cramer also helped found the National Children’s Advocacy Center to assist victims of child abuse. HIs advocacy has fueled the dramatic growth in these
programs and has resulted in more positive outcomes for children. Early in his legislative career, Cramer led the passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act of 1992, which provided funding
and also helped to solidify institutional and governmental support for CACs. During the past 16
years, Cramer has helped secure more than $12 million in federal funds for the NCAC and almost $200 million for child advocacy centers throughout the United States.
