Call to Order
President Shepherd called the meeting of the Clarion University Student Senate to
order at 7:30PM.

Officers Report
A. Vice President of Student Affairs
No Report
B. Adviser’s Report- Mr. Shaffer
Catelynn Flemming started as Coordinator of Residence Life and Student
Activities at the Venango Campus today. She will be here on main campus
tomorrow, September 18, 2018.
CSA helped purchase an event check-in add-on through campus labs. The event
check-in platform info will be available soon. This will help us accurately analyze
not only raw attendance, but also demographics.

D. President’s Report- President Shepherd
Thank you Tyler for coming to present to us the All In Campus Challenge The
university is participating in the All In Campus Challenge to raise voter awareness
and participation. Sept 25, 2018 is national voter registration day. To celebrate,
we will be tabling in STC and Commons. We will be help students register,
update voter identifications, and apply for absentee ballots. In 2016, 48% of
college students participated in the election. As this is a midterm election, the
numbers are expected to be a lot lower.
The Student Senate retreat is this weekend, September 22-23, 2018. We will me
here at Gemmell September 22, 2018 at 1:15, and leave at 1:30. If you can’t
come, be sure to excuse yourself.

President Shepherd tuned into the BSGP Conference call and spoke with the new
chancellor. He encouraged us to follow him on twitter @dan_greenstien. Our
Senate account an follow him for updates about the state system. He will be here
October 16, 2018. We voted on the BSGP Board and our next meeting will be in
December.
BSGP Conference is September 28-30, 2018 and we are all booked. We will be
leaving the 28.
Next Monday, Dr. Dale will be attending our meeting.
E. Vice President’s Report- Vice President Bumbarger
We will start to use a committee report sheets and a scheduling spreadsheet for
committee chairs. A copy will be distributed at the retreat, and there will be extras
kept in the Senate office.
We will also start to follow dress code/point system at the next meeting, as we
will be covering it at the retreat.
Sandy and Maddi met w/ foundation investment and finance committee to use
earnings from investments from last year to set up a new scholarship. We hope to
have the details ironed out by May.

There is a Council of Trustees meeting this Thursday in Venango, Tree will be
giving President Shepherd’s report, as she is unable to attend.

Senator Skunda issued a reminder about Gen Ed recommendations.
Representative Committee Reports
A. Clarion Call
This week we will be covering Men’s football and Women’s soccer or volleyball
depending on the date. We will also have a segment on new music, movies, and
TV shows.
B. University Technology Advisory Committee- Senator Bolha

D. Interhall Council

Interhall Council’s annual regional conference registration has opened up. So far
5 members are going. They will sit in panels to bring better activities to residence
halls, as well as how to better Campus-wide events – such as Clarion’s Got
Talent, which will be on October 30, 2018.
E. UAB
This Friday, September 21, 2018, in the Gemmell MPR is puppy time. Spa night
will be in the MPR on Saturday, September 22, 2018. There, you can get a
massage and make your own DIY Spa supplies. Last year, everyone made lip
scrubs.
F. ABLE
ABLE’s 9/11 event was very successful. They are currently planning the Leaders
in Action conference with the help of the National Society of Leadership and
Success. The annual food drive is coming up, the organization who brings in the
most donations wins a prize, so please start collecting donations.

A survey has gone out and is doing well. In one week we received 132 responses,
and we hope for around 250. Tell your friends to take the survey, as they can win
bookstore credit.
F. Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Concerns Committee- Senator

G. Community Relations Committee- Senator Claypool
Next week, September 24 and 26, 2018, from 1:00PM-4:30PM we will be doing
Good Neighbor canvassing at different off campus housing locations. If you have

The Social Media Committee will be starting a Senator of the Week program to
get Senate’s name out there. President Shepherd will be first, followed by the
other executive board members, and then random selections.

Senator Henderson moves to be excused from retreat as she will be having an
intervention for her grandma. Motion passes no abstentions
Senator Mason moves to be excused from the retreat on Saturday, as she could not get
off work. Motion passes
Senator Matotek moves to be excused from convocation, as he was being expected
for his internship. Motion passes no abstentions

Open Forum or Announcements
Senator Henderson has a volunteer opportunity from 10-1 at Clarion Limestone oct
13. You will judge high school students on their interviews. The kids get scholarships
based on how well they.
Dr. Fenske wishes Matt Shaffer a happy birthday tomorrow.
Senator Yost would like to put a box in the office. Stuff a truck ends the 4th of
October, so we could raise a significant amount of donations.
