Clarion University Student Senate
Meeting Minutes
February 19, 2018
I.
Call to Order
President Welsh called the meeting of the spring semester of the Clarion University Student
Senate to order at 7:30 PM.
II.
Roll Call
All present.
III.
Additions to the Agenda
Senator Skunda- 1 under new business
Senator Yost- 1 under new business
IV.
Approval of the Minutes
The minutes were approved as distributed.
V.
Officers Report
A. Adviser’s Report- Mr. Shaffer
Student Affairs Advisory Board is meeting February 28, 2018. The topics of discussion
will focus on communication, how students receive information and how they don’t.
Tevis Bryant has resigned from his position at the University. His last day is the end of
February.
B. Director’s/Board of Director’s Report- Ms. Machokas
CSA Board meeting is this Wednesday February 21, 2018 at 5:30 in room 246 Gemmell.
CSA has done Student in Need Scholarships for 16 students totaling $2,791.42. CSA has a
remaining $35,508.37.
The bookstore will be supplying t-shirts and scholarships for senate’s WINGO.
The following are upcoming events for the bookstore:
Grad fair – April 25
Family Day Sales and giveaways- April 28
End of Semester Sale- Finals Week
C. President’s Report- President Welsh
Welcome to our new Senator Andrew Gilara, and we now have a full Senate.
Admitted Students Day is this Saturday February 24, 2018 from 8:15-10:15 AM in
Gemmell. It does count for two office hours.
WINGO is this Friday February 23, 2018. Remember this is a mandatory event for
Student Senate, and please wear your blue shirts.
The Advising Task Force has its first meeting of the spring semester tomorrow at 8:00
AM in 332 Becht.
The Student in Need Scholarship fund committee is being formed to find ways to better
advertise the scholarships. Thank you to those who signed up.
The Harrisburg trip is this Thursday February 22, 2018. Thank you to those who
volunteered to go.

G. Student Trustee’s Report- Trustee Green
The Council met last Thursday February 15, 2018. President Fackler reported on efforts
to boost retention rates at clarion and to look at campaigns on college affordability.
The provost search is underway, and is in the beginning stages.
The Council of Trustees is meeting with Presidential Candidates for on-campus
interviews in the following two weeks.
Len Cullo reported Tippin renovation underway, and is expected to take 17-18 months.
The council of Trustees is to have a special meeting on March 15, 2018.
Trustee Green will be attending PACT conference in April in Harrisburg.

F. Presidential Search Committee- Secretary ShepherdAn email was sent out at the end of last week to students stating the Clarion University
Presidential Search Committee is pleased to welcome three candidates to campus to
interview for the position of University President.
Employees, students and community members are welcomed and encouraged to attend
the Open Forums for each candidate and provide feedback via a survey managed by the
firm, AGB Search. The link to the survey will be open on the university’s presidential
search webpage on the first day of the corresponding candidate interview and all three
links will remain active for comments through midnight on March 10.
The first candidate is Dr. Robert (Bob) Glenn who will visit campus February 25 – 27.
Dr. Glenn’s open forum is scheduled for Monday, February 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in
the Suites on Main North Theater.
Dr. Martin Abraham is the second candidate to visit campus and will be here on March 4
– 6 Dr. Abraham’s open forum is set for Monday, March 5 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the
Suites on Main North Theater.
The final candidate to visit campus is Dr. David Urban on March 6 – 8The open forum for
Dr. Urban is planned for Wednesday, March 7 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Suites on
Main North Theater.

Standing Committee ReportsA. Appropriations Committee- Treasurer McCann
The appropriations committee moves to recommends $2,500 to CRU for their Big Break
Conference. They do a lot of outreach and also attend conference events/presentations.
The motion carries with no abstentions.
B. Student Relations Committee- Senator Klanica
WINGO is this Friday February 23, 2018. It will be starting at 8:00 PM, Senators need to
arrive at 7:00 pm. Wear you blue shirts. Shopping for WINGO prizes is Thursday
February 22, 2018 at 4:00 PM.
C. Academic Affairs Committee- Senator Skunda
No report.
D. Rules and Regulations Committee- VP Henderson
No report.
E. Student Facilities Committee- Senator Bolha
Meeting is this Friday February 23, 2018.
F. Campus Safety, Health, and Environmental Concerns Committee- Senator Porter
Campus safety would like to offer a RAD course. It is for women only. It will be taught by
two of the female officers. It is a 12 hour course that will be broken into 3 sessions. They
need 10-16 students in order to run the course. It will be advertised on Facebook and
Clarion Call.
G. Community Relations Committee- Senator Claypool
The Come Together Clarion date was approved for April 28, 2018.
H. Website Management Committee- Senator Custer
Two contests will happen during WINGO. A random follower contest as well as a WINgo
face contest.

Senator Skunda moves to be excused from February 12, 2018 Student Senate meeting. He was
very sick. The motion carries with no abstentions.
Senator Yost moves to be excused from WINGO. He has family from Georgia coming to visit, and
got the dates switched. Motion carries with no abstentions.
