CLARION VDAY CONSTITUTION
Article 1 - Name of Organization
The name of the organization by this constitution shall be Clarion VDay.
Article II - Purpose
The Clarion VDay Organization exists to unite and support members committed to stopping
violence. Specifically, the purposes are.
A. To form an organization that refuses to accept violence as an inevitable part of life.
B. To spread awareness about and gain support for the VDay global movement to stop violence
against women and girls in addition to any violence based on gender, race, sexual
orientation, and/or gender identity etc.
C. To work on global concerns, as well as, on campus and in the community.
D. To assist in the organizing of VMen to educate their peers about male victims, men as allies
with women when men act as perpetrators, and men refusing to be limited to the narrow
ways they can express masculinity.
E. To attract members who want to join an organized effort to stop interpersonal violence
though educational programs and fundraising activities. Those interested in planning and
implementing well-known and well attended annual international events such as Lunafest
Women’s Film Festival, The Vagina Monologues and Take Back the Night will sign on.
Women and men committed to fundraising for community agencies, PASSAGES, Inc. and
SAFE., and the VDay Spotlight Campaigns, as well as acting as allies for and survivors of
domestic violence or sexual assault can finally find a support system with us. Any one who
wants to break the silence about these crimes are welcome.
F. Our campus and community will benefit from our collaborative activism, educational
programming and fundraising activities. Our campus and community will gain knowledge
about these issues, have a place to turn to and get help if victimized, and we will help our
local agencies, PASSAGES, Inc. and SAFE, provide services and prevention programs.
Article III – Membership
Section 1: Any Clarion University student interested in participating is eligible to join. All
majors are welcome as well as all class standings. Members will be expected to
attend biweekly meetings and participate in discussions, community service and
fundraising events with dedication and commitment. Faculty, staff, alumni and local
agencies with complimentary purposes will be welcome at our meetings and
activities, although they cannot vote.
Section 2: There will be no membership fees.
Section 3: Members will be dismissed permanently if they attend fewer than two meetings and
fail to participate in two activities per year.

In the case of members acting in ways that violate our purpose, the officers will
determine if a semester long dismissal is justified and the vote must be unanimous.
Article IV – Duties and Elections of Officers
Section 1: The organization shall have the following officers who are responsible for:
A. President
The President will preside over meetings; keeping proceedings orderly and in accordance
with this constitution, moderate meeting discussions, oversee the organizations of
meetings, and organize educational opportunities.
B. Vice President
The Vice President will carry out the duties of the President should he/she be absent from
official meetings or discussions and organize/oversee social functions for the group.
C. Secretary
The Secretary will be in charge of keeping record of the minutes, updating the
membership roster, and setting up a communication system to inform members about any
meetings, activities or beneficial opportunities.
D. Treasurer
The Treasurer will be in charge of preparing the budget and keeping record of all funds
raised and spent by Clarion VDay.
E. Publicity Coordinator
The Publicity Coordinator will be in charge of designing or working with whomever is
designing PR for events, eDigest posts, social networking posts, and providing press
releases to the newspaper and radio station.
F. Outreach Coordinator
The Outreach Coordinator will have the duty of connecting and communicating with
organizations and businesses in the surrounding communities.
Section 2: Elections will be held every year at the end of the spring semester unless a student
wishes to resign his or her position or a unanimous vote of the membership decides
to impeach them from their position. Students will be nominated from the floor or
may nominate themselves, and a secret ballot will be held to determine the winner.
No student may hold the same position for more than two years.
Section 3: A simple majority vote will determine the fair outcome of all elections and decisions
made by Clarion VDay members.

Article V – Role of Advisor
Section 1: The advisor will be selected, approved by the members and invited by the officers to
advise Clarion VDay. The role of the advisor is to serve as a networking resource.
The advisor will also attend meetings and activities, proofread all materials, give
constructive criticism and guidance and act as liaison between the organization and
the university.
Section 2: The advisor serves as a guide and has no vote.
Article VI – Meetings
Section 1: Meetings will be held bi-weekly. If any business transactions are to be discussed,
officers may have a separate meeting prior to the open meeting. Days, times and
locations will be determined by the second week of each semester.
Section 2: A quorum of one more than half the total members will be needed for any business
to be transacted.
Section 3: In any meeting, any motion can pass with a majority vote of the members present.
Section 4: An informal atmosphere will be used to conduct meetings.
Section 5: Special meetings will be held at the discretion of the President. There must be three
days notice and will not need a vote. Members will be notified by email.
Article VII – Finances and Funding
Section 1: There will be no dues.
Section 2: Funds will be requested each year as needed from the Student Senate and abide by
their requirements for requesting such funds.
Section 3: The organization will conduct fundraising efforts to help with our expenses and to
support our community agencies’ work.
Article VIII – Amending, Suspending, and Accepting the Constitution
Section 1: Bylaw amendments determined to solve a repetitive problem in the organizational
structure or to expand officers or officer duties shall be submitted to members, in
writing, for discussion. After that week, the amendment will be voted on and passed
with a majority vote of all members present.
Section 2: These bylaws and amendments shall become effective upon ratification by the
members of Clarion VDay and following the approval by the Student Senate of
Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Article IX – Ratification
Section 1: These bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the
members of Clarion VDay and following approval by the Student Senate of Clarion
University of Pennsylvania.
