Constitution of the Criminal Justice Society Club, Clarion University of Pennsylvania
Article I
The purpose of the Clarion University Criminal Justice Society club is to promote
activities related to criminal justice professions. The club will strengthen the members’
knowledge of the Criminal Justice system, and prepare students with a Criminal Justice major for
their careers. The Criminal Justice Society club sponsors speakers on campus and takes many
field trips to various prisons, jails, courts, crime labs, and other interesting places. The club shall
improve the University and local community through community service projects, as well as
enhance the educational and social experiences of its members. Students with Criminal Justice
majors, and those of any other major holding an interest in the Criminal Justice field, are
welcome to join and participate.
Article II
Section I:
Students with Criminal Justice majors and students of any other major holding an interest
in the Criminal Justice field are eligible for membership in the Criminal Justice Society club.
Section II:
Members will not engage in or condone, explicitly or implicitly, in any of the following:
hazing, personal insults or intimidation, especially in regard to sex, race, religion, creed,
ancestry, national origin, disability, or sexual orientation; distribution and/or illegal use of
alcohol or other controlled substances. The club will obey these rules as defined by the laws of
the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rules and regulations of Clarion University of
Pennsylvania.
Article III
Section I:
The officer positions will include President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Section II:
Officers will be nominated by the members of the club at the first regular meeting of each
semester and elected by a majority vote.
Section III:
The duties of the officers will include, but not be limited to, the following:
a. The President will conduct all meetings, enforce this constitution and its by-laws,
delegate members for organizational tasks, and act as the spokesperson for the club.
b. The Vice President will assist the President, ensure that organizational tasks are
completed, and preside in the absence of the President.
c. The Secretary will record the minutes of all meetings, keep a role of all active
members, be responsible for maintaining group records, and coordinate advertising
for meetings and events.
d. The Treasurer will maintain financial records, maintain a student-group account,
allocate funds used by the organization, and coordinate all fund-raising activities.
Section IV:
Impeachment proceedings against any officer for neglect of his/her duties or violations of
this constitution, its amendments, or by-laws, may be initiated by any active member.
Impeachment of an officer will require two-thirds vote of the active membership.
Article IV
Section I:
Meetings will be held on a weekly basis on a day and time when a majority of the
members can attend.
a. Attendance Policy – If an officer cannot attend a meeting, he/she must alert other
officers of this and why. An officer can miss no more than two unexcused meetings
per semester.
Section II:
Emergency meetings can be called by the President or Vice President for exigent
circumstances concerning any matter relating to the welfare of the club as an organization.
Section III:
Meetings will be conducted according to the latest edition of Robert’s Rules of Order
Section IV:
Two-thirds of the active members must be present in order to form a quorum and pass
any item.

Section I:
Any necessary funds shall be obtained through any allotted budget monies and from
fundraising in accordance with the Clarion University of Pennsylvania rules and regulations.
Section II:
Funds shall be deposited with the Clarion Student’s Association as required by the
University rules and regulations.
Article VI
Section I:
The Criminal Justice Society club and its members will not engage in or explicitly or
implicitly condone any act of hazing as defined by the law and of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania and the rules and regulations of Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Section II:
The Criminal Justice Society club and its members will not engage in or condone any
personal insults or intimidation, but will respect all persons without regard to race, sex, creed,
ancestry, national origin, or disability.
Section III:
Any distribution and use of alcohol by the Criminal Justice Society club or its members
will be in compliance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rules and
regulations of Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Section IV:
The Criminal Justice Society club will not encourage or force the use of alcohol, will not
use alcohol as the focal point of activities, and will promote alcohol awareness activities.
Section V:
All members of the Criminal Justice Society club are expected to abide by the laws of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rules and regulations of Clarion University of
Pennsylvania.
Article VII
Amendments to this Constitution may be proposed by any active member, at any
meeting, and require a two-thirds vote of quorum for passage. New amendments will be
forwarded to the Student Senate office within five days of passage for review and inclusion in
the organization file.

By-laws passed by the Criminal Justice Society club shall be recorded as by-laws.
Amendment of any by-law shall require two-thirds vote of quorum for passage. New by-laws
will be forwarded to the Student Senate within five days of passage for review and inclusion in
the organization file.
Article IX
This constitution, its amendments, and its by-laws will be reviewed once per academic
year for any necessary changes.
