Bylaws of the American Sign
Language Club
Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be the American Sign Language Club of Clarion University.
Article II. Purpose
The purpose of this club is to allow Clarion University students to learn American Sign
Language. I am forming this club because I believe that American Sign Language will be a great
way for students to utilize different ways of teaching in the classroom, and also to have fun
learning a new language. The benefits of this club will enhance students ability within their
majors especially in Speech Pathology and Education program. People would want to join
because it is a new thing to learn, it also is another way of making them more marketable for
employment.
Article III. Membership
Section 1.
Qualifications for joining the club. Each member must have a 2.0 GPA, with good
standing, throughout the term of the semester. This club is for all members but
recommends speech pathology and education majors to join. This club will meet every
other week on Wednesdays at 7PM.
Section 2
Members may have a $5 fee if student senate can not cover the cost for T-shirts to
promote the organization. This fee is only for those who are interested in having an
American Sign Language shirt.
Section 3
Members may be excused from meetings if they are valid. ( Death in a family, sickness,
homework ect.) the meetings should have 25% attendance rate in order to not be left
behind from the material that is being learned.
Article IX. Duties and elections of the officers
Section 1.
The officer of this Committee shall be the President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, and a
Treasurer, who shall constitute the executive committee. The officers shall be elected at the first
meeting in January.
Section 2.
Article V. Role of Campus advisor
Section 1. The ASL Advisor shall be a Clarion University staff member designated by the
Division of Student & University Affairs and shall serve until a successor is appointed.

Article VI. Meetings
Section 1. Regular meetings of the ASL shall be held each week of the semester, provided that
classes are in session. At the end of each semester, the ASL shall set a date, time, and location
for the meetings of the upcoming semester. There shall be a minimum of 10 meetings per
semester.

Section 2. Special meetings shall be called by the President at the request of a delegate of any
member of the executive committee. The business of special meetings shall be limited to
discussion of the matters for which the meeting was called. Members will be notified 24 hours in
advance.
ARTICLE VII.-FINANCES AND FUNDING.
Section 1. There will not be dues
Section 2. Funds may be required in order to provided Tshirts
Section 3. If funds will not be provided by student senate then fundraising events may occur
ARTICLE VIII.-AMENDING, SUSPENDING, AND
ACCEPTING.
Section 1: If legislation passed following standard protocol were to be reviewed and considered
in violation of any part of the bylaw, a motion to revise and/or terminate the legislation is
permitted.
Section 2: In accordance with Robert's Rules of Order, a motion to revise and/or
terminate the aforementioned bylaw must be voted on with the majority of active members
present.
ARTICLE IX.-RATIFICATION.
Section 1.
These Bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the members of
American Sign Language Club and following the approval of the Student Senate of Clarion
University of Pennsylvania, the vice president for student & university affairs, and the president
of Clarion University.
Section 2
Approval of the bylaws and any amendments shall be by a two-thirds (2/3) vote.
Section 3
