Geoscience Club of Clarion University
BYLAWS
ARTICLE I. – NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Geoscience Club of Clarion University.
ARTICLE II. – PURPOSE
Reasoning for forming this organization is to allow students to incorporate themselves into
something bigger than just schooling itself, allowing students to work together and build in
experience, both in/out of the classroom, for their future careers. This organization would be a
great opportunity for all students in Biology and Geoscience Department to meet new friends and
get involved with the Clarion Community, as a whole, as well as get hands on experience in the
geologic field, to gain personal insight and hands-on experience in the various Earth Science
majors offered here at Clarion University. This including: Environmental Geosciences, Geology,
Environmental Biology, and Geography majors. In turn, this will give a chance for students in
this organization to explore other fields in our department and provide guidance to help create a
path beneficial and suitable for all members. We believe people will want to join this
organization to improve and expand their point of view on what exactly our department has to
offer.
ARTICLE III. – MEMBERSHIP
Section 1.
Qualifications for joining this club requires you be in the Biology and Geoscience
Department and attend Clarion University. The club shall be open to all class standings. Grade
point average will not be taken into consideration as a requirement for this club. The club will
meet on a monthly basis. Those interested in joining the Geoscience Club should attend a club
meeting and have verbal interaction with the President or other officer to discuss gaining
membership.
Section 2.
Membership to this club will require a $10 fee once per semester to be a member
in good standing, and to be able to participate in club activities. These fees will help cover the
cost of field trips, guest speakers, student research.
Section 3.
Members may be dismissed from this organization for failure to participate in
club activities for which they previously enrolled without a valid excuse, missing more than
three meeting in a row without letting officers know, failure to pay dues, or switching to a major
outside of the Biology and Geoscience Department.
ARTICLE IV. -- DUTIES AND ELECTIONS OF OFFICERS
Section 1.

President- Running meetings, organizing and overseeing activities

Vice President- Assist president, send emails, communicate with club members,
and take president role if appointed president is unable to attend meeting or event.
Treasurer- in charge of finances, budget, and dues
Secretary- documentation of minutes, what takes place and attendance during
meetings.
Section 2.

Elections will be held at the end of each spring semester to determine who will be
elected to the respected positions for the following year. Election will be ran by
the club members and located on the second floor fishbowl in the Science and
Technology Center building on the Clarion main campus. This will all be
conducted under supervision of appointed advisor.

Section 3.

Majority Rules.

ARTICLE V. – ROLE OF CAMPUS ADVISOR
Section 1.

Advisor must be in the Biology and Geoscience Department. They will be
responsible for attending all meetings and activities that take place. For example,
if they Geoscience club were to go on a field trip the advisor must be present.

Section 2.

The advisor can approve or deny potential activities that take place. They can
expel members of the board if they think it is in the best interest of the Geoscience
club.

ARTICLE VI. – MEETINGS
Section 1.

There will be one meeting on the first and third Tuesday of every month. This will
equal out to be about 8 meetings a semester.

Section 2.

Including board members, there must be at least half of the club members present
for motions to be passed at any given meeting.

Section 3.

Majority rules.

Section 4.

Informal setting where different officers will talk about specific activities,
projects, trips, and fundraisers.

Section 5.

Any officer or advisor could call a special meeting and they do not need to be
voted upon for any important reason. A one day’s notice will be given for any
special meeting via email.

ARTICLE VII. – FINANCES AND FUNDING
Section 1.

Membership cost once every semester.

Section 2.

Fundraising will be a main contributor, however, in the event we do not raise
enough money, loans will be asked of student senate.

Section 3.

Fundraising will be held at least once a semester or more if necessary.

ARTICLE IIX. – AMENDING, SUSPENDING, AND ACCEPTING
These bylaws are subject to change if seen fit by a majority of the club members,
but only for the benefit of the club as a whole.
ARTICLE IX. – RATIFICATION
These Bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by
the members of the Geoscience Club of Clarion University and following the
approval of the Student Senate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, the vice
president for student & university affairs, and the president of Clarion University.
These Mock Bylaws was formed from the various guidelines to constructing an
organization’s Bylaws and statements were taken from outstanding organizational
Bylaws currently recognized by the Student Senate.
Student Organizational must function in compliance with their approved Bylaws.
Any adopted changes to the Bylaws by a student organization must have written
approval of the Student Senate, the Vice President of Student Affairs, and the
President of Clarion University before they may be implemented.
