Leadership Institute of Clarion University of
Pennsylvania Constitution
Preamble
We the members of the Leadership Institute of Clarion University of
Pennsylvania do hereby establish this constitution in order to promote
conscientious leadership on an academic, social, and community level.
Article I- Leadership Institute
The organization shall be known as the Leadership Institute of Clarion
University of Pennsylvania
Article II- Purpose
Leadership Institute is concerned with developing leadership skills in
students. Skills that will help them succeed in and out of the classroom and
for the rest of their lives.
Leadership Institute nurtures leadership skills through programs like
new initiatives which offer leadership workshops that build self-confidence
and assertiveness for incoming students; S.E.T. which focuses on academic
achievement; and M.A.C. which teaches skills for interaction with diverse
groups.
Graduate and Undergraduate academic classes, student affairs areas
such as Residence Life, Greeks, etc. are invited to leadership institute
dialogue. A forum for expression is created by providing an environment
conducive to sharing and challenge.
Article III- Membership
Qualification of membership into the Leadership Institute is good
academic standing of the student with Clarion University.
Article IV- Duties of the Appointed Officers
President
The function of the president will be to preside over the Leadership
Institute meetings and the Executive board. Any arising situation shall be
presented to the Leadership Institute by the president. They will inform the
executive board for at least one school year. The term of the president will
be subject to the executive board and may be reelected to another term.
Vice President
The function of the vice president is to carry out duties assigned by the
president, resume the duties of the president when he/she is absent, and
assist the committee chairpersons.
Treasurer
The function of the treasurer is to be responsible for all finance
conducted by and within the Leadership Institution.
Secretary
The function of the secretary is to record and file the minutes for the
executive board and general meetings. It is also the secretary’s responsibility
for all incoming and outgoing correspondence with other colleges and/or
commitments. Any publicizing of evens and programs that the Leadership
Institute is sponsoring or co-sponsoring for the general student body is to
be handled by the secretary of the Leadership Institute.
Article V- Role of the Faculty Advisor
The role of the Leadership Institute’s faculty advisor is to assist the
officers in implementing timely programs, and communicate to the executive
board a network of organizational outlets. His/her role as an advisor is to
advise the executive effectiveness. The faculty advisor however, is not
permitted to vote as a member in the organization.
Article VI- Meetings
A. Meetings will be held on a weekly basis
B. A majority will be ¾ of the members present
C. Parliamentary procedure will be used to convene Leadership
Institute’s meetings
D. Special meetings will be called by the advisor; a written and
telephoned notice at least one week in advance. All members will be
notified by mail or telephone.
Article VII- Finance and Funding
Funding for the organization will be requested from student senate of
Clarion University of Pennsylvania. The funds that are granted shall be
solely used for the benefit of the organization and not the individual
members.
Article VIII- Amendments
Proposed amendments to the constitution shall be submitted in writing
and shall thereafter be submitted to the executive board of officers who
will present it to the body-at-large in the general body meeting. This
constitution may be amended by a majority vote of the organization.
Article IX- Ratification
The Leadership Institute of Clarion University of Pennsylvania shall be
governed as stated in the above articles upon acceptance by the group, the
S1tudent Senate, the Vice President of student affairs, and the President of
Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
