Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
BYLAWS

Article I. - Name
The name of this organization shall be the Clarion University Fellowship of Christian
Athletes (FCA).

Article II. - Purpose
The national mission statement of FCA is “to present to athletes and coaches and to all
whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and
Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.” Our local
chapter of FCA at Clarion University of Pennsylvania seeks to uphold this mission.
FCA at Clarion University of Pennsylvania will also seek to serve the University's athletic
community - athletes, coaches, and fans through the following avenues:
 Engaging members (regardless of their religious beliefs) in Bible discussions on a
variety of topics, inviting speakers to challenge and motivate members, and offering
a variety of other events (i.e. lectures, seminars, and conferences). There will be an
emphasis on athletics and will use athletes and coaches.
 Giving members the opportunity to enter discussion about Christian faith with other
athletes, students, coaches, and community members.
 Creating an atmosphere of unity, friendship, and support in the community of
athletics at Clarion University.

Article III. - Membership
Section 1.
FCA is a group open to all willing to attend, with a focus on varsity and club
men and women collegiate athletes, and those who show an interest in athletics. There are
no official requirements in gaining membership. Membership is defined only in terms of
personal involvement and participation.

Section 2.
To be a member of FCA, dues are not required. Any money that members
wish to donate to FCA would be used as supplemental costs to help in ways that Student
Senate is unable.

Section 3.
Members may be dismissed if there is any inappropriate behavior during
meetings and events, determined by majority vote.

Article IV. - Duties and elections of the officers.
Section 1.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes will consist of a president, vice president, and
other leadership members.

President will be responsible for the following but it is not limited to:
 Delegate the responsibilities for the weekly fellowship group meetings
 Plan the weekly leadership team meeting with an advisor
 Attend (or assign someone to attend) all meetings required by the University.
Vice President will be responsible for the following but it is not limited to:
 Handle all budget related matters
 Assist the president with his or her job when needed
Other leadership team members will be responsible for the following but it is not limited to:
 Help to coordinate events
 Brainstorm ways to connect with athletic teams (varsity and club)
 Organize service projects and special trips
 Assist with planning weekly FCA meetings

Section 2. In order to be on the leadership team, a student must complete an application
and undergo an interview.
i.Prospective leaders will complete an application that will be reviewed by the current
leadership team. The prospective leaders will then undergo an interview with a current
leader and an advisor.
ii.If a current leader would like to apply again, he or she will then re-apply and then undergo
an interview with another leader and an advisor.
After all interviews are completed, in a closed meeting, the current leadership team will
decide which applying members will be on the leadership team. Then in a special meeting,
selected members from the approved leadership can come and vote for the position of
President and Vice-President. This process will take place at the end of the fall semester.
The new leadership team will assume their position starting the following spring semester.

Article V. - Role of Advisors
Section 1.
The campus advisor will be a faculty or staff member of Clarion University. He
or she will be selected by the leadership team. This person will fulfill the university's
requirements of an advisor. While FCA works in partnership with Koinonia Community
Board, they will have a campus ministry staff member advisor as well. The campus ministry
staff member will be elected by the student leaders and community board. This individual
will help coordinate weekly meetings with the president, disciple the leadership team, and
help with event planning.

Section 2.
The advisors do not have any voting rights. The advisor and campus ministry
staff member will work with the leadership team in the execution of their duties as outlined
in the Constitution. The advisor and campus ministry staff member have the ability to lead at
the weekly fellowship group meeting if the student leadership deems it appropriate.

Article VI. - Meetings
Section 1.
FCA will meet weekly when Clarion University is in session for its fall and
spring semesters. The meetings will consist of prayer, Biblical discussions, and mutual
encouragement of those in attendance.

Section 2.

Statement of Quorum: Fifty percent of members in good standing plus one.

Section 3.
FCA format will be decided on by the appointed leadership team. The format
and structure may change on the weekly basis using discernment based on the needs of
the given group.

Section 4.
If there needs to be a special meeting, the leadership will make an
announcement at least a week prior to the meeting.

Article VII. - Finances and Funding
Section 1.
FCA does not require dues of its members. However, members are welcome
to give additional monies to the budget of FCA.

Section 2.

Each year, FCA will submit a budget to Student Senate for approval.

Section 3.
To help with costs for conferences, service projects, etc., FCA will fundraise
throughout the year and work in partnership with Koinonia Community Board.

Article VIII. - Amending, Suspending, and Accepting
Amendments to this constitution may be proposed to the leadership team. The team may
adopt a proposal only by at least fifty percent plus one of members of FCA. When the
proposal has been passed by the leadership team, Student Senate will recommend to the
Vice President of Student & University Affairs and the President of Clarion University for
approval of the amendment in order for the amendment to become effective.

Article IX. - Ratification
These Bylaws, and its amendments, shall become effective upon ratification by the
members of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and following the approval of the Student
Senate of Clarion University of Pennsylvania, the Vice President for Student & University
Affairs, and the President of Clarion University.
