Constitution of the Mathematics Club of Clarion
University

Constitution
Article I – Name
The name of the organization shall be the Mathematics Club of Clarion University.
Article II – Purposes
Section 1. The Mathematics Club is an organization to: (1) meet the needs and interests of its
members, mathematically or otherwise; (2) create communication between students
and faculty for the promotion of fellowship in mathematics or any other areas; (3)
provide incentive for higher scholarship; (4) better attitudes toward the general goals
of a college education; (5) create an atmosphere of voluntary involvement for the help
of others; (6) to host mathematically based contests for interested students; (7) become
a chief planner in talks and presentations given in the Department of Mathematics by
students, professors, and guest lecturers and (8) plan trips to mathematically related
conferences.
Article III – Membership
Section 1. Membership shall be open to any student of Clarion University who meets the
following criteria: (1) have genuine interest in mathematics or the application thereof;
(2) willing to attend meetings regularly and (3) take an active role in the promotion of
mathematics at Clarion University.
Article IV – Executive Officers
Section 1. The officers of the math club shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, and
Treasurer.
Section2. To be eligible for an office, one must be a member of the club for at least one semester.
Section 3. The term of office of all officers shall be for one year.
Section 4. A new advisor will be chosen as needed by club members at the time of election.
Article V – Duties of Executive Officers
Section 1. The duties of the President shall be to preside at all meetings of the club and to act as a
liaison between the faculty and the club.
Section 2. The duties of the Vice-President shall be to perform all duties of the President in the
absence.
Section 3. The duties of the Secretary shall be to keep accurate permanent records of the minutes,
proceedings, membership records and all correspondence for the club.
Section 4. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to keep an accurate record of the funds of the club
and to handle all financial transactions.
Article VI – Meetings
Section 1. The regular meeting of the club shall be held at regular intervals (once a week) to be
determined at the beginning of each academic year.
Section 2. Special meetings of the club may be called by the President at his/her discretion.
Article VII – Elections
Section 1. Nominations for officers will be taken from the membership during the meeting prior
to elections and also on the day of elections.
Section 2. Elections shall take place in compliance with university regulations.
Section 3. At the meeting during the Spring semester when elections are held, a count shall be
made of the eligible voting members present and from that number the majority shall
be determined.
Article VIII –Amendments
Section 1. Amendments to this Constitution may be submitted by any member.
Section 2. Such proposed amendments, having been submitted at on regular meeting, shall be
voted upon at the next regular meeting.
Section 3. A 2/3 majority of the members present shall be necessary for the adoption of
amendments to this Constitution.
Article IX – Committees
Section 1. Committees shall be established whenever deemed necessary by the Executive Board.
Section 2. The Executive Board shall appoint all committee chairpersons.
Section 3. Each committee chairperson shall present an oral report at each club meeting
concerning the activity of his/her committee.
