-FRESHMEN ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO GO-EVEN IF YOU ARE JUST GOING TO OBSERVE. YOU WILL
GET THE EXPERIENCE OF A PROFESSIONAL SETTING AND WILL LEARN A LOT.
-GO to the banquet, it is $20.
Start practicing talking to others about your project for CPUB.
-Also remember, DO NOT BE SASSSY WITH YOUR JUDGE, LEARN HOW TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT
YOUR RESEARCH
Fill out a travel grant if you want to stay at a hotel and get reimbursed.
- You should have it in 4 weeks in advance.
Undergrad Conference Abstracts due TODAY (Friday, March 25)
Project Updates:
Stem Cell- Performed an immunofluorescence with no controls
– Next time will do a control with no primary or secondary antibody
-Osteocytes put down calcium phosphate – They are older osteoblasts.
-Forgetting things is okay and happens. Science isn’t perfect, just learn from your mistakes! ☺
Bd- Collecting data for a growth curve to publish in a journal.
-Used beads in a column and then performed a blot to send away for sequencing to see what
antibody is being recognized- didn’t work very well.
Frogs: All the frogs that Gerald bought have died. He called the supply company and that whole batch of
frogs died so he is getting a refund. We still have 2 frogs from our initial purchase that are currently
upstairs in 202.
Rats: There are 22 rats. Please take males on the last 2 rows and the older rats, they are getting old and
huge (just save one male in case the Diabetes project needs it).
We will present posters in two weeks at lab meeting to do your mock presentation for CPUB. Poster
talks should be 5-7 minutes to tell them everything you did. (Platform talks should be about 10 minutes.)
