The President’s Message…
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
I hope you had an excellent Winter Holiday last week!
Starting with this edition, the Clarion APSCUF Newsletter will be published only online, for
members only.
As you know, APSCUF is gathering input as we head into new contract negotiations. Our current one-year CBA expires on
June 30, 2019. President Ken Mash has been reaching out to various member groups, e.g., regular faculty, chairs, adjuncts,
to hear their priorities. APSCUF and the SSHE have agreed to use an interest-based bargaining format for negotiations in
keeping with the Chancellor’s collaborative style. I will keep you posted.
Preview of Coming Events:

Plan to join us for the end-of-semester APSCUF member social at the Clarion River Brewing Company on
Wednesday, May 1, 2019, from 4-6 pm
The PA Promise is proposed legislation that enables students to attend the SSHE universities tuition-free. It
would enable students to achieve their higher education dreams and ensure strong enrollment for SSHE
institutions. There is a noon rally for students and faculty at the capitol in Harrisburg on Wednesday, March 27.
Clarion will join with Edinboro and Slippery Rock to transport faculty and students to the rally at no cost. Please
join me for the trip to Harrisburg. See inside the Newsletter for more information. Contact Jan or myself with any
questions.
The Clarion University College Democrats are presenting the Shropshire Award to State Representative Sara
Innamorata on Thursday April 11 at the Clarion River Brewing Company at a 7 pm social/event. Kevan Yenerall
is the faculty advisor for the student Democrats club; see inside the Newsletter for more information. It promises
to be a great event!
The Faculty Affairs Committee of the Senate is sponsoring, along with APSCUF and the Office of the President, a
retirement reception for our colleagues on April 23 at 4 pm in Moore Hall. Please join us to honor our retirees!
Sara Miller of the Labor Relations Department will be on campus on Tuesday, March 19. We are having some
upcoming campus visits by State APSCUF staff. Bim Arthun, Director of Membership Services, will be on
campus Thursday, April 4. To make one-on-one appointments, please contact Jan in the APSCUF office.

Thanks for making Clarion University a great place to learn and work!

Rally for affordable college March 27 in Harrisburg
Do you believe public higher education should be affordable? That Pennsylvanians should not be crushed by student-loan debt?
Join us Wednesday, March 27 as we rally for the Pennsylvania Promise, a plan to make college affordable in the
Commonwealth. We are looking for faculty, coaches, and students to join us 11 a.m. that day in the State Capitol Rotunda.
In conjunction with Edinboro and Slippery Rock’s APSCUF chapters, we are taking faculty and students in a 55 passenger bus
to the Capitol in Harrisburg on Wednesday, March 27. Clarion University’s pickup time will be at 5:30 am in the Rhea Building
parking lot – Lot #17. Return trip should be around 5:30 pm. The rally starts promptly at 11:00 am in the Capital’s Rotunda and
ends 12:00 pm SHARP. Immediately after the rally, State APSCUF will be giving all participants a $10 lunch voucher for the
Capital’s cafeteria. Our bus will be leaving the Capital at 1:30 pm SHARP. Snacks and water will be provided for the bus
ride. Faculty and students are encouraged to wear university apparel and make handmade signs for the rally. Please let Jan
Walters in the APSCUF office know that you are interested in going.
Also, we are asking you to please reach out to interested students with this information and have them or yourselves contact
Jan in the APSCUF office. If there are any particular groups we should be contacting, please let us know. We would love to
have at least 15-20 CU students and APSCUF faculty to represent Clarion University at this rally.
Learn more about the Pennsylvania Promise, of which APSCUF is a partner, at www.PApromise.org . Please make sure
you're following the cause on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Use #PApromise and #affordablecollegenow in your online
discussions.
In advance, thank you for your consideration and reaching out to our students that would be interested in participating.
