The President’s Message…
Dear Colleagues,
Here we are at the end of another semester! Thanks for your dedication
and passion – which makes Clarion University a great place to learn for
students and a great place to work for faculty and staff. Without great
faculty a university is nothing. You make us great!
Please watch your e-mail during the break for a survey monkey survey which will contain several
questions. We are in a period of transition between permanent university presidents – presenting us
with an opportunity for reflection and progress. The survey will seek your feedback on a variety of
issues as the Clarion Chapter aims at the spring semester.
Questions will include your preference for the newsletter format
(electronic or hard-copy or both?), issues identification, solicitation
of interest to serve on a variety of systems improvement
committees, and more.
Please join us at the Clarion APSCUF Faculty holiday celebration at
the Captain Loomis on Thursday December 14, from 4-7 pm. Bring
a significant other if you want! We’ll have heavy appetizers, pizza,
tea, coffee and a cash bar. Jan also has some surprises! A great
opportunity to celebrate with the best people on earth!
Wishing you and yours a restful and joyous holiday season,
Ray

A “HEALTHY U” REMINDER
What is Healthy U? The Healthy U program is a customized plan for PASSHE
employees, spouses and same-sex domestic partners who are members of the
Highmark Indemnity or PPO plan. This program promotes a phased-in
approach to wellness and offers additional voluntary tools and resources to assist in improving your
health. All personal health information you provide as a participant in the program will be
kept strictly confidential and participation is voluntary.
Successful completion of the Healthy U 2017-2018 participation requirements by the program
deadline of May 31, 2018 will allow you to save significant dollars on your healthcare
premiums for the following plan year. Don’t put this off till the last minute. Participate today!
Please remember that participating in Healthy U saves you $$$$ (10%) on your premium. This affects anyone who is
enrolled in the Highmark, PPO or Comp Indemnity Plan. This includes temporary faculty as well that qualify for the
health plan and enroll in the PPO or CI. You should complete Healthy U because you too will pay the additional
10%. Even if you do not know if you will be rehired in the fall – it has been recommended that you should complete it
because if you do get rehired, the State System will assess the penalty if they were actively employed during the
“activity phase”.

you were a new part-time temp for the fall 2017 semester and are returning to
Clarion University for the spring 2018 semester, please contact Jan Walters in
the APSCUF office in January for a PA Faculty Health & Welfare Fund
enrollment card. YES, you do qualify for partial vision and dental coverage for you have

coverage for part-time temporary faculty, go to http://www.pafac.com/ptbenefits.htm.
