1988 Season Outlook - - - - - •
Bloomsburg University soccer coach Steve Goodwin is
hopeful the experience his club gained in close games last
year will help the Huskies prepare for the upcoming season.
BU posted an 8-9-1 overall record and was 2-3-1 in the
Pennsylvania Conference Eastern Division under Goodwin
but dropped four of five overtime games including three in
divisional action. The squad was 4-3-1 against all conference
foes including a 1-0 decision over conference champion and
NCAA tournament participant Lock Haven.
The return of eight starters gives the squad a good base
upon which to build, and defense should be the Huskies'
strong point. Goalie Keith Cincotta improved greatly during
last season and was credited with three shutouts including the
Huskies' 1-0 triumph over PC champion Lock Haven.
All-conference and first team all-regional selection,
midfielder Jerry Crick and back Alfred McKenzie will help
keep the pressure off the Huskies' goal and give the offense
opportunities to score. Last season, the unit had 30 goals
which equalled the opponents' total. Karl Alexy gives the
club a second solid player to complement Crick in the middle
and help the transition game. In addition, the steady improvement of Ken McAdams in the midfield should make it the
strongest group on the field.
The replacement of two of the squad's lead scorers, Kurt
Schmidt will be necesssary if the Huskies hope to better their
offensive attack, but Jack Milligan should provide a lot of
firepower on the front line. The youth of last year's team
enabled Goodwin to use many combinations and give his
team valuable playing time.
Improved depth helped the 1987 team, and Goodwin hopes
the addition of talented freshmen will again push the veterans
as they face a tough schedule with no less than six NCAA
Division I opponents in the 19-match slate.

Head Coach Steve Goodwin-----Steve Goodwin is entering his fifth
season in charge of the Huskies and
has developed the club into one that
must be reckoned with in the Pennsylvania Conference (PC). The coach's
rebuilding efforts at BU are quite
evident as his teams in the last two
years have won 19 games leading to a
four-year mark of 25-42-2.
Goodwin, an instructor in the Health, Physical Education,
and Athletics Department, graduated cum laude from East
Stroudsburg in 1979 where he was a varsity letterwinner in
soccer for three seasons. He earned his master's degree at
Ohio University.

Top 1988 Veterans - - - - - - •
Keith Cincotta - sophomore
Gained valuable experience as the Huskies' starting goalie in
his first season with the club a year ago. Registered 85 saves
while allowing 27 goals in 18 games for an average of 1.5
goals per contest. The year's experience should make it
extremely tough for opponents to get the ball past him.

Jerry Crick - junior
Has earned All-Pennsylvania Conference recognition in each
of his first two seasons with the Huskies. Leads a strong
group of performers in the Bloomsburg midfield area and is
definitely one of the conference's best. Scored three goals and
assisted on three others last season while earning first team
all-regional honors as well.
Karl Alexy - junior
Another of the squad's talented performers at midfield. Uses
his size to his advantage and his steady improvement over two
seasons should be a real boost to the Huskies' transition game.
Helped some at the offensive end with two goals a year ago.
Ken McAdams - sophomore
One of several freshman who saw a lot of playing time last
season. Versatility and athletic ability are his biggest assets
and allow him to contribute either in the middle or on the
outside for the midfield corps. Assisted on two goals last
year.
Alfred McKenzie - junior
Changed positions and has spent the last two years at sweeper
where he has become one of the conference's top performers
gaining All-PC and all-regional honors last season. A solid
back who adds to a touch defense. Scored once last year and
assisted on another goal.
Jack Milligan - junior
Has been one of the team's scoring leaders in each of his
previous two seasons with the Huskies. Gives the Huskies a
strong threat up front after scoring four goals and registering
five assists last season. In his two years on the squad, he
recorded 12 goals and nine assists.
