COUNTRY
OUTLOOK
COACHES
After having one of the better cross country teams in the
history of the school last year, Coach Clark Boler considers
this to be a rebuilding year.
The 1978 team placed fourth in the NCAA Northeast
Regional Qualifier and 18th of 22 teams in the NCAA Division II national championship meet held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Huskies finished fifth in the Pennsylvania Conference meet. In dual competition,
Bloomsburg was 4-5 and 39-35 overall.
The biggest loss through graduation has been co-captain
Steve Eachus, the top distance runner ever to perform at
BSC. He was a two-time PC champion who won three-time
All-American honors by finishing eighth as a sophomore
and third in his junior and senior years at the NCAA Division
II nationals. Another key loss is co-captain Mark Bond, who
was 15th and 13th respectively in the PC his last two years.
Returning from the 1978 team are seniors Steve Johnson
and Charles Martin and sophomores Wendi Farrell, Anne
Grab and Tom Groff. The remainder of the Husky roster is
primarily freshmen who will be counted on heavily to help
keep the Husky harriers in contention for conference and
national honors.
Top performers seem to be Johnson, Groff, Mike Swank,
John and Bob Feeley, Bill Harte and Dennis Raup. Better
performers among the women are Grab and Terry Purcell.
Other promising runners include Steven McGeady, Brian
McIntosh, Michael Mosakowski, Francis Galli and Alan
Musselman.
Assisting Boler are Stewart Nagle, associate professor of
art, and student assistant Randy Griffith, a 1977 and 1978
member of the Husky harriers.
CLARK BOLER, a member of the
Health and Physical Education staff
since 1968, Is In his fourth year as
cross country coach. In addition to
his teaching duties, Boler Is the head
baseball coach and runs a fall and
spring program. He was also an assistant football coach at BSC for eight
years and for a number of years has
been a qualified PIAA official.
A native of Northport, Alabama, he was a member of the
1961 National Championship football team at the University
of Alabama and a relief pitcher in baseball for the Crimson
Tide. He also earned his master's degree and AA certification from that university.
Boler previously was a head baseball coach, assistant
basketball coach, and assistant football coach at Gadsden
High School in Alabama. He has also served as a
player/coach for three years in semi-professional basketball
as well as participating several years in YMCA leagues
where he was quite successful.
STEWART NAGLE, a member of the
Art Department faculty, has been
assisting the BSC distance runners
for the past year.
