Men's Swimming Outlook
Head coach Eli McLaughlin, entering his 21st season , expects his
1982-83 team to be "one of our better teams in several years ."
Senior team captain Phil Spampinato will once again compete in
the individual medley, butterfly, backstroke, and freestyle events.
Juniors Matt Thran, Phil Christian , and Tom DiMarco, along with
sophomores Rick Fenton, Dave Henwood , John Murphy, and Kurt
Hilss, are the other veterans who should give the team a solid base.
Thran will concentrate on the breaststroke, Christian on the
backstroke , and DiMarco will continue to swim the freestyle events.
Fenton and Henwood a.r.e the Huskies' most versatile performers
swimming in a variety of events while Murphy and Hilss will
concentrate on the butterfly .
Newcomers Bryan Quibell, Mike Hagginbothom, and Brian Fetzer
will compete in distance freestyle races, while Mike Morris is expected
to perform in the individual medley. Bill Packard and Doug Keffer will
swim the backstroke and breaststroke respectively.
Freshman Rich Fosnot will compete in the one and three meter
diving events for the Huskies.
McLaughlin will get a good idea just how much potential this year's
squad really has when BSC hosts the 2nd Annual BSC Invitational
Relays which will include teams from Hartwick , Ursinus , Kings, York,
and Lycoming . The Huskies' toughest dual meet challengers this
season are Monmouth , Slippery Rock , Shippensburg , Indiana, and
West Chester.
"With a solid nucleus of uppperclassmen and a fine group of
freshmen , we have the depth and balance we'll need to have a
successful dual meet season and to improve our performance in the
conference championships ." stated McLaughlin .
