SEASON'S OUTLOOK
The Bloomsburg State College track and field team appears
to be set for another successful season with a number of strong
individual performers. The Husky tradition of being one of the
top contenders in the Pennsylvania Conference shou Id again be
evident.
In the past three years Bloomsburg has been represented in
the IC4A Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships
with individuals continuing on to compete at the NCAA Division 11 national championships. All-American performers have
been Steve Eachus--distance runner, 1977-78, Jeff Carruthers-high jump, 1977-78, and Stan Kita--javelin, 1977.
Bloomsburg posted a 1979 indoor record of 11 wins and 7
losses. In outdoor dual meets last year the Huskies were 3-3 and
placed 5th at the Towson and Lehigh Invitationals and 6th
at the Pennsylvania Conference championships.
Indications are that there will be improvement in a number
of individual performances over last year. Returning lettermen
and conference place winners include: Dan McCallum (shot put),
PC runner-up and national qualifier; Robert McIntosh (sprinterlong jump), PC runner-up and national qualifier; Mike Wenrich
(high jump), PC place winner; Ray Distasio (shot put), PC place
winner.
Other letter winners back are : Tom Groff (5,000 meters);
Steve Johnson (10,000 meters); Tom Fager (400 meters); Bob
Feeley (1500 meters); John Feeley (1500 meters); Geoff Johnson (100 meters); Scott Feinstein (400 meters); Jim Nash (high
jump); Chris Haser (shot put); Mark Kendzor (400 meters);
Bryan Hugh es (800 meters).
Promising first year performers are: Ken Latch (800 meters);
Sam Rubbico (800 meters); Joe Miller (400 meters & triple
jump); Kevin Anderson (400 meters); Pat Murphy (110 H.H.);
Greg Bogdon (decathlon); Frank Horan (discus); Pete Shiner
(discus); John Hinks (high jump); Ken Jones (high jump); Bill
Hack (400 1.H.); Scott Grow (400 I. H.).

COACHING STAFF
Carl Hinkle, Assistant Professor
of Physical Education, joined the
BSC faculty and coaching staff in
September of 1971. In addition to
his teaching assignments in Health
and Physical Education, he is in his
fourth year as head track coach.
He has served as an assistant football coach (9 yrs.) as a
defensive specialist.
A native of Berwick, Pennsylvania, Hinkle received
his B. S. Degree from Montana State University and the
M. S. Degree from Ithaca College. His coaching experience involves two years in public schools and the
colleges of Ithaca, Cornell and Cortland State before
coming to Bloomsburg.
During the past three years, the Huskies have compiled successful seasons. Each year Bloomsburg has
been represented in the NCAA Division II Nationals
with three individuals Hinkle has coached, taking
five All-American honors.
Joe Kelly, a teacher and cross
country coach at Central Columbia
H. S. for the past several years has
been assisting Hinkle for two years.
He is a 1973 graduate of BSC who
has a great interest in road racing
and marathon running.
