FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
EDINBORO POSTS LARGEST ENROLLMENT GAIN IN 11 YEARS
Edinboro University of Peimsylvania has enrolled 7,210 students for the fall 2000
semester that began its 2000-2001 academic year, an increase over the last school year’s student
body by nearly two percent - the largest increase in headcotmt enrollment since the 1989-90
academic year.
“Shortly after my arrival as president in 1996,1 announced that enrollment was the top
priority of the university,” said Edinboro President Frank G. Pogue. “Our significant enrollment
and retention efforts have since been supported by activities, programs and initiatives that have
reflected our university-wide commitment to first stabilizing and then increasing enrollment.”
Pogue said that his goal has been to educate as many citizens as Edinboro’s faculty, staff,
curriculum and facilities can accommodate: “We have the capacity to serve more of the best
students prepared by our high schools, and Fm pleased that our efforts to turn around om
enrollment decline are paying off”
Among the many factors Pogue attributes to recruiting and retaining larger numbers of
students are the university’s exceptional teaching faculty and support staff, his emphasis on the
student-centered concept and philosophy of the “Edinboro Family,” reduced tuition for out-ofstate students, new academic programs and majors, inclusive planning and budgeting, enhanced
graduate and certificate programming, facilities improvements, and better marketing.
“I’ve long believed that Edinboro University has the capacity to serve larger numbers of
students and that we simply had to change the way we ‘do business’ to enable new and different
groups of potential students to access our services and therefore achieve our balanced capacity
enrollments,” Pogue said.

“As long as Edinboro University can convince potential students and families that the
quality of education it provides is exceptional, as long as we can keep access to education
affordable, as long as academic programs needed by students and society are available and are
taught when and where they are needed, and as long as students and families are convinced that
the educational environment is student-centered, we will remain competitive to serve the
enrollment we are capable of serving,” said Pogue.
Pogue said that he will continue to keep enrollment and retention at the top of the
university’s agenda.
