EDIITtOIlO CCKPLETES WII'ININGEST SPOLTS YEAREdinb< ro State's 1969-70 sports season proved to be the vjinnin^est year in the
Fightin'> Sec ts'' athletic history as athletes in nine varsity sports cornl ined
their efforts to produce an overall slate vof 63 wins, 49 losses and one tie.
The seamen win-loss record established an all-tirae high percentage of 56.2
while 53 new marks were placed in the Sects^ record books.
Tennis paced the leaders with an 11-1 season slate and registered a 91.7
percentage.

The Sect netmen finished 11th nationally in the lh\lA meet in

Kansas City, Ic. after capturing the HAIi* District IG title and placed third
in the Pennsylvania Conference meet.

The ilank l.ariotti-coached crew also won

the ESC .uadrangular Tourney and placed second in the ESC Invitational Tourn­
ament.
Seven of the Sects'* varsity sports completed their schedules with .500
or better season records.

Coach i^red Carols grapplers were 9-4 (69.2), Coach

Doug IJatts' cross country team, in its first year, finished 6-3 (66.7) while
bis tracksters were 3-2 (60.0) and Coach Jim IcDonald^s cagers racked up a 13-9
(59.1) ledger markin'? eight straight years in which the Clan has never exper­
ienced a losing season on the hardwoods.

Baseball under tbe guidance of new head coach, Guy Conti, had its win*
ningest season as the diamondmen posted an ll-£ (57*9) ledger.

gridders broke even for the carapaign as football had its best year since 1961
with a 4-4-1 (50.0) nzark.
hounding out the slate were Jin IcDonald^s golfers who were 5-10 and
George Shliapeno''s first year soccer men with a 1-C record against s(^e stern
ccmretition.
Fowling, trapshootin’ and weight lifting which are net yet listed as var­
sity sports also came away with scjme outstanding finishes.

The lighting Scot

trapshooting team won the Easter regional Shooting Chanpionship against such
teams as Yale and harvard, and then placed fourth in the nation at Iowa City,
Iowa.

The weight lifters were nudged by Lichigan State for the U.S. title in

the Collegiate height and Power Lifting Championships x^hile the bowling team
captured the

District 16 championship.

The Scot athletic teams also had respectable finishes in Pennsylvania
Conference action and over 25 athletes received special recognition by associa­
tions other than the College.
