HALL OF FAME
Tonight Edinboro State College takes special pride in honoring
eighteen individuals with their induction into the College's Athletic Hall of
Fame. These persons have distinguished themselves in their associations
with athletics at Edinboro either by virtue of their performances or by
meritorious efforts on behalf of the College's athletic programs.
Each Hall of Fame member or his family representative will be
presented a plaque which identifies their athletic service to the College. A
duplicate plaque will be placed in the Hall of Fame trophy case located in
the lobby of McComb Fieldhouse.
As an added highlight for this athletic first, Edinboro State will also
present Its Initial "Athletic Coach of the Year" award. This honor will also be
bestowed annually on an Edinboro coach who has distinguished himself or
herself through the past athletic year. The selection Is made solely by the
Edinboro State College athletic staff members.

His outstanding accompiishments as a footbali and basketbaii performer at
Edinboro. Recognized as Edinboro's "Best All-Around Athlete" at the
conclusion of the 1931 athietic season. A leader In the development of
professional baseball's minor leagues and a dedicated educator.

WALT ASKINS, 1960 - Fairview, Pennsylvania

His outstanding performances in basketbaii as Edinboro's all-time leading
scorer with 1,739 career points and the College's best scoring average (26.1
points per game). Recognized for his continued dedication to men's and
women's atheitics as an athletic director and coach.
LAWRENCE ''IRISH'’ BLANEY, 1932 - Aliquippa, Pennsylvania (Deceased)

His many accompiishments In football at Edinboro as a player and as a
student coach. In recognition for his outstanding contributions as an
educator, humanitarian and community leader; and, especially for his
support and loyalty as an Edinboro alumnus in continually advancing the
cause of the College.

finished undefeated, 40-0, In varsity singles competition and participated In
three national tournaments. In recognition of his continued spectacular
success as a high school tennis coach, tennis teaching professional and
educator.

His outstanding representation of Edinboro in football, track and wrestling.
In particular recognition for his record-breaking football performances,
selection as team captain in footbali and track, and selection as Edinboro's
first "Little All-American" In collegiate football. A noted, successful coach
In scholastic wrestling.

His unselfish and faithful support of Edinboro State College's athletic
program. In particular recognition for his understanding of and friendship
toward individual athletes who became better men because of their

TED ROBISON, 1970 — Pine Mountain, Georgia

His 34 years of dedicated service to Edinboro as an athletic director, coach,
physical education Instructor and friend. In recognition of his outstanding
coaching success and the spirit generated by his exuberance. The corner­
stone of Edinboro athletics and the first Inductee to the Edinboro State
College Athletic Hall of Fame.

His outstanding number one singles play In tennis where he was a two-time
district champion and has the distinction of owning 25 consecutive dual
match victories. Recognized for his continued success as a distinguished
alumnus as well as his personal interest In and support of Edinboro's
intercollegiate tennis program.

JOSEPH LESON, 1935 - Los Angeles, California (Deceased)

His outstanding leadership and play In both basketball and football at
Edinboro. In recognition of his continued success in these sports at the
professional level and his performance as a collegiate basketball official,
particularly with the PAC-10 (Pacific Athletic Conference). A most
distinguished and successful alumnus.

JOE SANFORD, 1971 - Corry, Pennsylvania

His outstanding leadership ability In quarterbacking Edinboro Jto Its best
season In football history after winning the Lambert Bowl emblematic of
the best small college team In the East, completing back-to-back regular
schedules undefeated, capturing the College’s first Pennsylvania Con­
ference championship and earning a bid to the national playoffs.
FRANK SMITH, 1%9 - Meadville, Pennsylvania

EMIL MAGDIK, 1960 - Edinboro, Pennsylvania

His outstanding performances at Edinboro In the sports of football and
basketball. In particular recognition of his four varsity football letters and
selection to participate In two Edinboro post-season bowl games and the
Gem City Bowl All-Star Grid Classic. A devoted alumnus who continually
advances the cause of the College.

His prolific scoring talents as one of the top offensive players In Edinboro's
basketball history. Recognized for his most points In a single game (54)
record and his back-to-back selection as a collegiate basketball AllAmerican. He helped lead Edinboro to Its first and only Pennsylvania
Conference basketball championship.
FRANK SOSCIA, 1941 - Utica, New York (Deceased)

His outstanding performances and honors at Edinboro In the sports of
football and track. In special recognition of his selection as a captain of the
1960 football team and the Gem City Bowl team In addition to his selection
to All-District, All-State and Little All-American teams. A continual
contributor to and supporter of Edinboro State College's athletic program.

His outstanding basketball performances where he was one of the top
scorers on a series of successful Edinboro basketball teams. In recognition
of his selection to the Pennsylvania State Teacher’s All-Conference
basketball teams for three consecutive seasons and as a team captain.
Highly successful in both semi-professional baseball and basketball and a
noted educator.
JOHN WOLFE, 1940 - Morehead City, North Carolina

DAN PETCHEL, 1%5 - Lawrenceville, New Jersey

His outstanding performances In both basketball and football. In recogni­
tion of the highest All-American honor ever extended to an Edinboro
basketball player and of his remarkable scoring and rebounding records
that led Edinboro to Its first national tournament appearance. A unique
three-time First Team All Pennsylvania Conference selection.
FRED RILEY, 1972 - Lock Haven, Pennsylvania

His court leadership and shooting accuracy that led Edinboro to appear­
ances In three consecutive district championship games and a post-season
riatibnal tournament appearance. Recognized for his continued success as
a basketball coach at both the scholastic and collegiate levels. A dedicated,
determined and disciplined student athlete.

For his outstanidng football and basketball careers at Edinboro where he
earned four varsity letters in each sport and was also accorded Pennsylvania
State Teacher's All-Conference awards for his noted efforts in football and
basketball. In recognition of his continued success as a player In the
professional sport of baseball and as a scholastic coach in the sports of
baseball, basketball and football.
MIKE ZAHORCHAK, 1937 - Sewickley, Pennsylvania

His outstanding support of Edinboro's athletic program as a recruiter of
student athletes who have distinguished both themselves and the College
through their talents. A devoted alumnus and life-time member of the
Edinboro "E" Club who has, likewise^ distinguished himself In his unselfish
commitment to the College and as an administrator in the public school
system.
