WOMEN LOOKING TO HOST FIRST-ROUND PLAYOFF GAME
The Fighting Scots enter this week’s competition with an overall record of 17-6
and are 6-3 in the PSAC West.
The Boro squad looks to get back into the win column after two tough losses last
week. The Scots had their 15 game home court winning streak snapped on Saturday
\Mth a loss to Shippensburg. The top two teams in the West will host first-round play
off action on Feb. 24.
The front court tandem of Amy Rapelje and Heather Gates played strong inside
games against the Lady Raiders. Gates led the Boro with 22 points and a game-high
13 rebounds while Rapelje poured in 20 points.
Rapelje now has 1,001 points in her Edinboro career. Teammates Gates and
Meghan Miller are also over the 1,000 point plateau. Gates topped the mark last
season while the Scots were competing in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, and Miller
reached the plateau earlier this season with a 26 point performance at Indiana (PA).
The Scots are second in the PSAC in scoring offense with 77.0 points per game.
Junior guard Meghan Miller is currently eighth in NCAA Division II in 3-pointers per
game (3.1) while leading the PSAC in the same category. She is hitting .425 percent
of her shots from behind the three-point arc. Miller is also among the conference
leaders in scoring average (14.6). Senior forward Heather Gates holds the fifth posi
tion on the PSAC rebounding charts with 8.6 boards per contest. With 53 rebounds.
Gates will become the all-time leading rebounder in PSAC history.
The Indians have an overall record of 14-8 and are 5-4 in the PSAC West. They
are led by Junior forward Theresa Kabala, who is averaging 14.1 points each time
out. Four others average double digits for Indiana. They are Megan Smith (11.0),
Molly Carr (10.8), Jodi Frederick (10.2), and Carrie Maitland (10.1). Smith is their top
rebounder, grabbing 8.3 boards. Maitland is currently the PSAC West’s Rookie of
the Week. Indiana has won five of their last seven games.

SCOTS FIGHT TO STAY TOPS IN THE WEST
The Boro men, 20-5 overall and 8-1 in the PSAC West will tip-off against the
Indians, 15-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference, at 8 p.m. in McComb Fieldhouse.
The Scots have been hot, winning 18 of their last 20, including their last five.
With Saturday’s win over Shippensburg, the men earned their fifth 20-win season
during head coach Greg Walcavich’s nine year tenure.
Senior Jesse Ogden is leading the PSAC in three-point field goals per game with
3.1. Ogden is averaging 11.4 points per game, and is fifth all-time in career three’s
made in conference history (296). Also in the starting five are sophomores Warren
Chance and Dwyane Butler, and freshmen Amos Upshaw and Adam Kaufman.
Chance is the Scots’ leading scorer, averaging 19.3 points. He put up a careerhigh of 36 in last week’s win over Gannon to help him earn PSAC West Player of the
Week honors. Fourth in the conference in scoring average. Chance is second
around the league with a free throw percentage of .837.
Butler is second on the Boro scoring charts with a 14.2 point average. His field
goal percentage of .496 ranks him among the top seven shooters in the PSAC.
Upshaw has recorded five double-doubles in his last seven games. Once again
chosen as the PSAC West Rookie of the Week, Upshaw has now claimed the honor
five times this season to go along \Mth 'Player of the Week’ honors once. Upshaw
is fourth among the top rebounders in the conference with 9.1 boards per game.
Kaufman has run the Edinboro offense all season, and his 7.7 assists per game
ranks him sixth in the nation and tops in the PSAC. Kaufman continues to move up
the Boro’s single-season and career assist charts. He now stands in third on the
Scots’ single-season chart and has moved up to 13th on the career list.
Indiana is led by Rodney Horton who leads the PSAC in scoring with 23.3 points
per game. Horton is the top rebounder for the Indians with a 7.5 boards per game.
Indiana dropped a heart-breaker to Clarion this past Saturday as they saw a 15
point lead erased before CU’s Gregg frist hit a three with 28 seconds remaining to
drop the Indians by a 77-76 final.
UP NEXT: The Fighting Scot men will host the No. 13 Mountain Cats of the
University of Pitt-Johnstown on Sunday (Feb. 15) at 6 p.m. Both Boro teams will
then travel to Clarion University on Wed. (Feb. 18) for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. start times.
