THE SAME STORY

The Fighting Scots captured their third
straight win in the PSAC West after an 0-6
start. Edinboro moved into a fifth-place tie
with Indiana(Pa.) after defeating the
Indians on Wednesday, 70-67. In the last
three victories, head coach Stan Swank has
employed a smaller "Smurf" lineup, as he
likes to call it. The Boro shot 39 threepointers versus lUP and despite shooting
just 23.1 percent from downtown (9 of 39),
the game plan lifted the Scots out of last
place in the West. Edinboro has shot 100
three's in the last three wins and has made
29 of those attempts. The Scots will host
Shippensburg on Saturday, after falling to
the Lady Raiders, 74-58, on January 19.
Shippensburg has won five of its last six
games, losing only at Indiana(Pa.), 80-76.
The Raiders are second in the West with a
7-3 record and are 18-6 overall. Ship is
ranked fifth in the East Region and 18th in
Division II. Shippensburg ended Edinboro's
season a year ago in the first round of the
PSAC tournament with an 82-53 decision.

THE SMURF ATTACK

As of the last three games, head coach Stan
Swank has found his smallest formula to
bring big success. Edinboro snapped its
seven game losing streak with three
straight wins over Slippery Rock, Clarion,
and Indiana(Pa.). His "Smurf" lineup, as
Swank refers to them, employs four guards
and just one forward.
Courtney

Thompson, Krystal Henson, Wendy
Wiggins, Jodi Calderone, and Megan
Zitner range from just 5'4" to 5'10." Even

The Fighting Scots lost to Shippensburg
three times a year ago and once earlier this
season. Katie Bray led Ship to a 74-58 win
with a game-high 18 points.
Emily
Swingler, Jessie Gordon, and Jennifer
Scaffidi each :;dded 16 points to the attack.
Wendy Wiggins, Suzanne Petruska, and
Korie Morton contributed 10 points apiece
for the Boro. Ship outrebounded Edinboro,
45-29. The Raiders shot 19 of 20 from the
foul line, while Edinboro made just 5 of 7
from the stripe.

with a smaller linup, Edinboro reduced its
negative rebounding margin from minus
11.3 to minus 5.4 in the three-game span.
The Scots even outrebounded both Slippery
Rock and Clarion. The Smurfs have aver
aged 84.7 ppg., after the team averaged
just 70.8 in the first 19 games. In the three
wins, Henson averaged 23.7 ppg., Zitner
averaged 18.3 points and 11.7 rpg. and
Calderone has contributed 15.3 ppg., up
from her previous average of 4.0 ppg.
Wiggins registered two double-doubles and
averaged 11.7 ppg. and 8.7 rpg. over the
winning span. Thompson was credited with
18 assists and 17 points in the stretch,
while only committing 3 turnovers.

three's attempted in a game with 17 shots
from beyond the arc against the Indians.

this season, the second-best total in
Edinboro's record book. She stands 8
