Edinboro enters its home opener undefeat
ed in three contests. The Fighting Scots
host Columbia Union in the first-ever game
between the two teams. Columbia Union
will have to stop the outside shooting
streak that the Boro began in an 11-point
win over Kutztown in their last outing.
After trailing by three points at halftime,
Krystal Henson sparked the comeback with
23 of her career-high 26 points in the sec
ond half. Kutztown could not shut down
the three-point shooting of Henson and
Suzanne Petruska. Together, they shot 11
for 19 behind the arc, as Edinboro was 13
of 28 overall. Columbia Union is on a fourgame losing streak, and will play its fourth
game in six days when it comes to
Edinboro. The Pioneers are 1-5 overall,
recording their only win against Cheyney.

STEPPING UP INSIDE
THE COACHES
The Fighting Scots lost four inside players
from last year's squad and were looking to
make up for the quartet's 30 ppg. and 24
rpg. The Scots returned little experience to
the the paint but have seen big results.
Junior Lachelle Crawl and sophomore
Suzanne Petruska have combined for 26
ppg. (13.3 and 12.7 respectively).
Together, with sophomores Megan Zitner
and Kerle Morton, who add 7.7 ppg. and 3.3
ppg. respectively, the inside players make
up for 37 of Edinboro's 72.7 ppg. The Boro
is still experiencing a void on the boards,
getting out-rebounded by almost 6 rpg.
Zitner leads the Scots on the glass with 5.7
rpg. and Crawl contributes 5 rpg. Morton
adds 4 boards and Petruska collects 3.3
rpg. The foursome accounts for 18 of the
team's 33 rebounds per game.
HENSOirSHOT
Krystai Hensan has
quickly moved up the
ladder in the record books in her first two
years and continues on the move in her
junior season. The outside threat tied her
career-high 6 three-pointers in a game in
the Scots last outing at Kutztown. She fin
ished with a career-high 26 points to lead
the Scots to a come-from-behind victory.
Henson stands third in three-pointers made
at Edinboro with 118 and ranks fourth alltime in attempts with 319. This year, the
outside threat is shooting .471 from behind
the three-point line. The junior captain
scored 51 three-pointers as a freshman and
59 in her sophomore year. These numbers
rank Henson fourth and third in threepointers made in a season. Henson led the

WRERFD TIE 3’S COME FROM
Prior to the Kutztown game, sophomore
Suzanne Petruska had failed to make a
three-pointer in her career. After going 0for-3 up to that point, she canned 5 of 8
from beyond the arc to help Edinboro hand
Kutztown its first loss in six games. Along
the way she posted a career-high 16 points.
A walk-on who saw little action a year ago,
Petruska is the Boro's third-leading scorer
at 12.7 ppg.
FIASIYFRESIMAN
Jodi Calderone has been hot from the three-
point line, connecting on 5 of 7 in the first
three contests of her Edinboro career. In
her rookie debut, Calderone is averaging
9.7 minutes per game and has appeared in
all three games. The freshman is averaging
5.3 ppg. for the Scots, ranking sixth on the
team. The four-year starter at Ambridge
High School finished with 1,643 points,
ranking second among all-time scoring
leaders at Ambridge. The renowned threepoint shooter averaged 16 ppg. as a senior
and 18 ppg. as a junior. Calderone was
voted the Most Valuable Player in Section 3
AAAA and was also voted to the first team
All-Western team by the Pittsburgh Post
Gazette and the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
In her senior campaign, Ambridge was 293, making it to the WPIAL AAAA champi
onship game.
JOINING THE 500 CLUB
Krystal Henson’s 26 points
not only paced
Edinboro to a 75-64 win at Kutztown, its put
the junior guard over the 500-point mark
for her career. Henson has now scored 523
career markers. She leads the Fighting
scots in scoring at 16.0 ppg., and the scary
thing for opposing coaches is she's just
starting to warm up. She hit 6 of 11 three's
vs. the Golden Bears to make it 8 of 17 in
the first three games.
WELCOME lACKKORE
When Korle Merton completed
her freshman
year averaging 8.0 ppg. and 5.5 rpg., she
seemed destined for an outstanding career.
Unfortunately, she suffered a serious knee
injury prior to the 1999-2000 season, and
another one before the 2000-01 campaign
got underway. Now the 6'0" sophomore is
back, trying to shake off the rest and
remain healthy. Morton is off to a slow start
at 3.3 ppg. and 4.0 rpg., but her presence
on the floor is a victory alone.
NOT CRAWLING ALONG
Lachelle Crawl has stepped
up and piqayed
a major role in Edinboro's first three games.
The junior forward has been in double fig
ures all three games while playing in a
reserve role, averaging 13.3 ppg., second
on the team. She is also pulling down 5.0
rpg., a figure which ranks second, while
playing outstanding defense. A year ago,
crawl averaged just 3.7 ppg.

SCOUnNCTMEIIONERS
Columbia Union is off to a rocky start this season, posting a 1-5 record. The Pioneers are
in the midst of back-to-back-to-back games on the road, losing at Fairmont State on
Sunday, 55-45, and playing at Mercyhurst on Monday. Add in last Thursday's game at
Shepherd, and it's four games in six days for coach Sandy Smith's squad ... the Pioneers
have lost four straight games since posting their lone win, a 65-55 decision over Cheyney
... the Scots will have to deal with sophomore Camille Lee, a 5'9" forward who leads the
Pioneers both in scoring (15.0 ppg.) and rebounding (10.8 rpg.). Lee had 12 points and
9 boards vs. Fairmont State. However, she is shooting just 33.8 percent from the floor
... Leah James, a 6'0" senior, is also in double digits at 10.3 ppg., adding 9.8 rpg. James
posted a double-double at Fairmont State with 12 points and 12 rebounds ... the Pioneers
have struggled with their shooting, connecting on just 31.3 percent from the floor, 20.7
percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 56.3 percent from the line. However, they
force over 22 turnovers a game ... Columbia Union is averaging just 50.2 ppg. while giv
ing up 59.6 ppg.
THE2001-02FlGimNG SCOT CHEERLEAIERS
ANOTHER FAST START
Fast starts are nothing new for Stan
Swank's teams. In fact, they have become
the norm. A year ago, the Scots opened
with a loss then ran off eight straight wins.
The year before that, the Scots won their
first three games. Swank hopes his 200102 squad can avoid the fate of that 19992000 edition. After winning three in a row,
the Boro lost five of its next six games.

NOTE: Columbia Union played at
Mercyhurst on Monday night.

ANOTHER FAST START
Fast starts are nothing new for Stan
Swank's teams. In fact, they have become
the norm. A year ago, the Scots opened
with a loss then ran off eight straight wins.
The year before that, the Scots won their
first three games. Swank hopes his 200102 squad can avoid the fate of that 19992000 edition. After winning three in a row,
the Boro lost five of its next six games.
