Edinboro Men’s Basketball Looks To Stay Undefeated In Conference Play
(EDINBORO, Pa.) ~ The Edinboro University men’s basketball team will host Pennsylvania State Athletic
Ctmfer^ce rival Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 8:00 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse. The
matchup will be the first of a home-and-home series betweai the two schools, as Edinboro will visit Indiana on Feb. 12.
The Scots (6-6 overall, 2-0 PS AC-West), led by eighth-year head coach Greg Walcavidi, are seeking their thirdstraight conference win and fourth victory in a row. In their most recent game, Edinboro defeated Lock Haven University,
82-70 cm Saturday (Jan 11) aftemcxm. Antoine Jefferson, the PS AC-West “Player of the Week,” scored a team-high 25
points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Scots in the victory. In his last two games, Jefferscm has averaged
19 points and eight rebounds, in helping Edinboro off to 2-0 start in the ccmference. Senior center Brian Ellis continued his
off^sive hot-streak, scoring 15 points to go along with his 10 rebounds. Ellis also scored 22 points in a 77-71 victory at
Slippery Rock in the Fitting Scots’ PSAC opener cm Jan. 8. Senior guard Dean Doss led the Scots’ “passing attack” with
a PSACT-best 14 assists against the Bald Eagles. Jefferson, who is ninth in the PSAC in scoring, at 16.8 ppg, is also seccmd
in the ccmference in field goal percentage, shcxjting 87-148 (.588) fi-om the field. Junior forward Jesse Ogden, who averages
a ccmferoice-best 4.2 three-^)oint field goals a game, needs just five more three-pointers to pass Tyrone Mason’s career
record of 165. Offensively, the ‘Boro is averaging 77.8 points per game, while allowing 74 points per ccmtest. Last year,
lUP won both games against the Scots, including a 74-73 come-from-bdhind victory at Edinboro. lUP also downed the
Scots, 96-86 at hidiana and has won the past four meetings with the Scots. Edinboro last defeated lUP in February of the
1994-95 season, vdien they knocked off the then^umber one team in Division II Indians in Indiana. Senior forward Corey
Keyes (6.4 rpg) returns to the Scots after playing in the NCAA-Division II football all-star game last Saturday (Jan. 11).
Indiana, guided by first-year head coach Gary Edwards, enters the game at 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC. In
their last ccmtest, the Indians defeated California University of Pa., 80-76, on Jan. 11. Senior guard Terrance Flowers led
lUP with 21 points in the win. Junior forward Chuck Karl grabbed a team-hi^ 12 rebounds for Indiana. The Indians
dropped a 63-58 road decision to Lcmk Haven cm Jan. 8, in their PSAC-West opener. Flowers (20.3 ppg) and Karl (9.6 ipg)
both rank seccmd in the PSAC in scoring and reboimding, respectively. Karl also is shooting a ccmference-best 89.5% (3438) from the firee-throw line. Indiana is averaging 73.3 points per game, and allowing c^pcments to score 74.3 points per
ccmtest. Indiana assistant coach Kevin Reynolds makes his return to the ‘Boro. The Indians are 1-2 cm the road in 1996-97.
Reynolds served as an assistant coach for Walcavich during the 1995-96 season.
