TBits and Pieces I
By Bob Olive r
It has been a quiet year at BSC. We welcomed a new
president, got hit with a tuition increase, rallied in
Harrisburg for increased funding of State Colleges....
The M&G has tried its best to keep up with the
students needs. We expanded our coverage to include
as much news, features, and sports as can be
humanly possible with the staff we have-.
Last year, Sue Sprague handed the reins of the
M&G to me and said, "If you have the half the staff I
had you will have a good newspaper". Luckily, she
left me the nucleus of a staff, and with the addition
over the semester of some fine freshmen, I am
handing Susan back an excellent staff to start her
second year as Editor-in-Chief.
There are so many people I'd like to thank for the
help they gave to me in my two-and-a-half years at
BSC, but space does not permit it. I would like to
thank my editors, those that I worked for and those
. who worked for me- they all have helped contribute to
the over a ll excellenc e this paper ha s accompli shed
over the years. A special thanks to Mr. Ken Hoffman
and Sue Sprague f or help a nd support ,for without
them I don 't think I could have made it through the
w ear
I'd like to congratulate President McCormick for
putting BSC back on the right track this year. His
leadership has proved to be the push we needed to get
back on track as an institute of higher learning.
Happy Holidays and good luck to all!
Feedback Surve y
By Valery O'Connell
A massive effort has been
completed at Bloomsburg State
College which could well have
an effect on the political scene
across the nation. Father
Bernard Petrina , Catholic
Campus Minister , and Mr.
Martin
Gildea , Associate .
Professor of Political Science
.have gathered and compiled a
comprehensiv e survey concerning "the response of
Christian people confronted by
the political situa tion of the ,
worl d and the local community. "'
At BSC and at Bucknell
University on two Sundays
during November , 1973 a
questi onnaire was completed by
those attending Sunday Mass.
The dat a was compiled and a
legiti mate sample drawn up of
responses to stat ements such as
"President Nixon should be
impeached. " Room was
reserved on the back of the
questionnaire for any comments people might like to
contribu te. The most unusual
ones were printed in the six
page leaflet which Father
Petrina hopes to distribute to
state and federal legislaotrs,
the President and nat ional
newspape rs.
Some remarks disagreed wit h
this type of survey being taken
in church but most were
favorable. "Could I use the data
for a Ph.D?" just seems to sum
up the massiveness of such an
endeavor. Let us hope that the
comments of BSC and BU
students will be taken seriously
by our leaders and that the 1973
Feedback effort does not go to
waste. This survey might just
put BSC on the map !

Dear Edit or,
The chairman of the Walk for
the Hungry expresses his sincere thanks to . the many
students who actually walked
the ten miles. Many of your
students sponsored themsel ves
as well as secured many other
students as their sponsors . This
is certainl y a tremendous way
of expressing your concern for
those in this world who find it
almost impossible to secur e
food. Your help is going a long
way to help feed a number of
people who otherwise might
nave starved.
For the second straight year
one of your students, Larry
Horwltz, ran the ten mile course
twice for his sponsors.
I am deeply indebted to pale
Alexander and Peggy Kase who
were the unofficial chair people
for the college community in the ,
Walk for the Hungry.
To this date we have received
a little more than $1,000 from

of people who walked. Anyone

( from page two)
commer cialization of Christmas here. I spent a buck for a
Christm as card to my dad. As
far as cards go, we send them
out too but this is done in the
cities and big town s. In all the
schools and ch urches t he
nativity play is staged — in
English and the vern acular.
.Christmas in the urban areas
is more or less like it is here—
carols , decoration s, exchange
of gifts, artificial Christmas
tre es—but in the country, it's
more
like
American
Thanksgi ving. It' s usually the
end of the harvest season and so
we have big feast s to which
friend s and relatives are invited. The Christi ans go" to
church but empha sis is upon
exchang e of gifts , usually
foodstuffs , clothing or pieces of
furniture.
Well, I wish you all a Merry
Christmas and a propserous
New Year . I hope to see you all
again next semester .
Lette rs
(from Daee two)
December 11, someone stole
from Navy Hall a teaching
device that I had spent many
hours making. The teaching
device was two sets, capital and
small, of a sandpaper alphabet.
I find it hard to believe that
anyone could steal a project
when they know what it is like
(or maybe they do not know
what it is like) to put so much
work and effort into a project
Some people better do a little bit
of thinking — you might not get
caught for this incident ,
however you will get punished
in the end. Can you believe that
some of these people are our
future teachers of America ?
Sincerely,
Sue Wilcher

By Mark Auditorium
Whenever the opposite sex,

gets you down, consider the
plight of our perennial hero , Old
Saint Nick.
An Interview with Santa
M and G — How are things
going at the North Pole, Mr.
Clans?
Santa — Terrible , things never
looked so bad.
M and G — Why 's that ?
Santa — For one thing , fuel
prices have been so high it's
costing me a f ortune to use my
private jet.
M and G — Couldn 't you use
your reindeers to economize ?
Santa — I use my reindeers for
short sto ps but the cost of
feeding them is ridiculous. As a
matter of fact , last Christmas
the reindeers led by Rudolf
threatened to s trike if they
didn't get more meat for supper. That damn Rudol f has been
a nuisance ever since they
wro te that song about him.
M and G — Are you still using
chimneys to gain entrance?
Santa — Hell no! Because food
cos ts so much I have been on a
diet and have lost thirty pounds.
In the past I could use my
stomach to ease my wa y down
chimneys but now it' s too
dangerous. Last Christmas I
was practicing in my chimney
at home and Ifell t o the bottom
breaking my left leg. By the
way, who will be reading this
morning and Mrs. Claus is
already gone to work.
M and G — Where does your
wife work , Santa?
Santa — She works in a mental
institution for Elves.
M and G — I' m not familiar
with that sort of instituti on,
would you explain?
Santa — as you know , the elves
are responsible for - buildin g
most of the toys. This takes
much mental endurance and
patience ' for they work an 18
hour day 350 days a year in
order to meet the lar ge demand.
After many years of this continual labor , their minds snap.
Under the cooperati on of health

Happy Home for these poor

a success.
M and G — That' s wonderful ,
Santa. It' s good to know tha t
even Elves are taken care of in
a sincere and humane manner.
Santa — That' s no t the main
purpose of the Home, for after a
bVief stay most of the Elves go

institution is set up to make life
so miserable for die Elves that

Of course the other half of the

TBits and Pieces I
By Bob Olive r
It has been a quiet year at BSC. We welcomed a new
president, got hit with a tuition increase, rallied in
Harrisburg for increased funding of State Colleges....
The M&G has tried its best to keep up with the
students needs. We expanded our coverage to include
as much news, features, and sports as can be
humanly possible with the staff we have-.
Last year, Sue Sprague handed the reins of the
M&G to me and said, "If you have the half the staff I
had you will have a good newspaper". Luckily, she
left me the nucleus of a staff, and with the addition
over the semester of some fine freshmen, I am
handing Susan back an excellent staff to start her
second year as Editor-in-Chief.
There are so many people I'd like to thank for the
help they gave to me in my two-and-a-half years at
BSC, but space does not permit it. I would like to
thank my editors, those that I worked for and those
. who worked for me- they all have helped contribute to
the over a ll excellenc e this paper ha s accompli shed
over the years. A special thanks to Mr. Ken Hoffman
and Sue Sprague f or help a nd support ,for without
them I don 't think I could have made it through the
w ear
I'd like to congratulate President McCormick for
putting BSC back on the right track this year. His
leadership has proved to be the push we needed to get
back on track as an institute of higher learning.
Happy Holidays and good luck to all!
Feedback Surve y
By Valery O'Connell
A massive effort has been
completed at Bloomsburg State
College which could well have
an effect on the political scene
across the nation. Father
Bernard Petrina , Catholic
Campus Minister , and Mr.
Martin
Gildea , Associate .
Professor of Political Science
.have gathered and compiled a
comprehensiv e survey concerning "the response of
Christian people confronted by
the political situa tion of the ,
worl d and the local community. "'
At BSC and at Bucknell
University on two Sundays
during November , 1973 a
questi onnaire was completed by
those attending Sunday Mass.
The dat a was compiled and a
legiti mate sample drawn up of
responses to stat ements such as
"President Nixon should be
impeached. " Room was
reserved on the back of the
questionnaire for any comments people might like to
contribu te. The most unusual
ones were printed in the six
page leaflet which Father
Petrina hopes to distribute to
state and federal legislaotrs,
the President and nat ional
newspape rs.
Some remarks disagreed wit h
this type of survey being taken
in church but most were
favorable. "Could I use the data
for a Ph.D?" just seems to sum
up the massiveness of such an
endeavor. Let us hope that the
comments of BSC and BU
students will be taken seriously
by our leaders and that the 1973
Feedback effort does not go to
waste. This survey might just
put BSC on the map !

Dear Edit or,
The chairman of the Walk for
the Hungry expresses his sincere thanks to . the many
students who actually walked
the ten miles. Many of your
students sponsored themsel ves
as well as secured many other
students as their sponsors . This
is certainl y a tremendous way
of expressing your concern for
those in this world who find it
almost impossible to secur e
food. Your help is going a long
way to help feed a number of
people who otherwise might
nave starved.
For the second straight year
one of your students, Larry
Horwltz, ran the ten mile course
twice for his sponsors.
I am deeply indebted to pale
Alexander and Peggy Kase who
were the unofficial chair people
for the college community in the ,

To this date we have received
a little more than $1,000 from

( from page two)
commer cialization of Christmas here. I spent a buck for a
Christm as card to my dad. As
far as cards go, we send them
out too but this is done in the
cities and big town s. In all the
schools and ch urches t he
nativity play is staged — in
English and the vern acular.
.Christmas in the urban areas
is more or less like it is here—
carols , decoration s, exchange
of gifts, artificial Christmas
tre es—but in the country, it's
more
like
American
Thanksgi ving. It' s usually the
end of the harvest season and so
we have big feast s to which
friend s and relatives are invited. The Christi ans go" to
church but empha sis is upon
exchang e of gifts , usually
foodstuffs , clothing or pieces of
furniture.
Well, I wish you all a Merry
Christmas and a propserous
New Year . I hope to see you all
again next semester .
Lette rs
(from Daee two)
December 11, someone stole
from Navy Hall a teaching
device that I had spent many
hours making. The teaching
device was two sets, capital and
small, of a sandpaper alphabet.
I find it hard to believe that
anyone could steal a project
when they know what it is like
(or maybe they do not know
what it is like) to put so much
work and effort into a project
Some people better do a little bit
of thinking — you might not get
caught for this incident ,
however you will get punished
in the end. Can you believe that
some of these people are our
future teachers of America ?
Sincerely,
Sue Wilcher

By Mark Auditorium
Whenever the opposite sex,

gets you down, consider the
plight of our perennial hero , Old
Saint Nick.
An Interview with Santa
M and G — How are things
going at the North Pole, Mr.
Clans?
Santa — Terrible , things never
looked so bad.
M and G — Why 's that ?
Santa — For one thing , fuel
prices have been so high it's
costing me a f ortune to use my
private jet.
M and G — Couldn 't you use
your reindeers to economize ?
Santa — I use my reindeers for
short sto ps but the cost of
feeding them is ridiculous. As a
matter of fact , last Christmas
the reindeers led by Rudolf
threatened to s trike if they
didn't get more meat for supper. That damn Rudol f has been
a nuisance ever since they
wro te that song about him.
M and G — Are you still using
chimneys to gain entrance?
Santa — Hell no! Because food
cos ts so much I have been on a
diet and have lost thirty pounds.
In the past I could use my
stomach to ease my wa y down
chimneys but now it' s too
dangerous. Last Christmas I
was practicing in my chimney
at home and Ifell t o the bottom
breaking my left leg. By the
way, who will be reading this
morning and Mrs. Claus is
already gone to work.
M and G — Where does your
wife work , Santa?
Santa — She works in a mental
institution for Elves.
M and G — I' m not familiar
with that sort of instituti on,
would you explain?
Santa — as you know , the elves
are responsible for - buildin g
most of the toys. This takes
much mental endurance and
patience ' for they work an 18
hour day 350 days a year in
order to meet the lar ge demand.
After many years of this continual labor , their minds snap.
Under the cooperati on of health

Happy Home for these poor

a success.
M and G — That' s wonderful ,
Santa. It' s good to know tha t
even Elves are taken care of in
a sincere and humane manner.
Santa — That' s no t the main
purpose of the Home, for after a
bVief stay most of the Elves go
craz ier and ~ re t urn t o t he

institution is set up to make life
so miserable for die Elves that
