·Bloomsburg University is a multi-purpose institution of higher
education serving the citizens of Pennsylvania as one of the 14
Commonwealth-owned universities. With a commitment to provide
a quality, affordable education for all qualified students, Bloomsburg
combines the tradition of an institution founded in 1839 with modern
learning, living, and recreational programs and facilities. Commonwealth funding provides 55 percent of Bloomsburg' s annual
operating budget
Undergraduate students may enroll in degree programs in 64
areas of study in the arts and sciences, business, teacher education,
nursing, and health sciences. A program in engineering is offered in
conjunction with the Pennsylvania State University, and preparation

Unique education opportunities are available through advanced

programs.
At the graduate level, the master's degree is offered in 25 areas
of study, and there are 10 supervisory certification programs in the
field of teacher education.
Extended program offerings provide continuing, life-long
learning opportunities for people of all ages and educational interest
through non-degree courses, non-credit mini courses offered at offcampus locations, and by public service television and credit for
work experience.

Center for Human Services is the newest building on the lower
campus and was used for the first time in the fall of 1985.
Located less than two miles from an Interstate 80 interchange
and 22 miles from Interstate 81, Bloomsburg is within one hour's
driving time from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Hazleton, and Williamsport, 1 lfl, hours from Harrisburg, 2 1/2 hours from Philadelphia, and three hours from New York City. The community is 45
miles from the Avoca International Airport and is serviced by major
bus lines.
Active files of over 25,000 living alumni are kept by the
university. Graduates of Bloomsburg University have distinguished
themselves in areas including law, medicine (one is a Nobel Laureate), science, architecture, education, industry, and research.
Bloomsburg University is fully accredited by the Middle States
Association of Colleges and Schools, the National Council for the

21-6 mark a year ago as the Huskies captured
the conference's Eastern Division title. In his initial season in charge
of the program, his unit went 19-6, which established a new school
record for wins in a season but was broken just a year later.
Prior to taking the position at Bloomsburg, Bressi served as
head coach at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pa., for
10 seasons. While at Bishop McDevitt, he compiled an impressive
237-43 record which included seven league titles and five PIAA

only to Pittsburgh's North Catholic in the state championship game.

dominant teams in the Harrisburg area for several seasons, and in
one stretch during his tenure, the teams won 91 of 92 regular-season

In only two years as head coach, Joe Bressi has led his teams
to two PeID1Sylvania Conference Championship playoff berths as well
as setting a school record for victories with a 21-6 record last season.
"Hopefully we will keep building the winning tradition. We
have good, experienced starters coming back," Bressi said. "It was a
good recruiting year which should add more depth to the team."
Leading the team will be four-year starter Theresa Lorenzi.
She was the leading point scorer for the club last season with 618
points which brought her career total to 1,623 and made her the alltime high scorer in Bloomsburg history.
Returning along with I..orenzi will be second-year starter Nina
Alston. Alston, chosen sevcl-al times during the past season as the
ECAC "Rookie of the Week," led the team in three-point field goals
with 27 and scored 334 points for an average of 12.8 points per game.
The Huskies will also depend upon the experience and skills of
seven other returning players. Sophomores Donna Cooper, Barb
Hall, Sandy Herr, Becky Pigga, Chris Sims, and Elaine Wolf, and
junior Karen DeLullo will add maturity and strength to the lineup.
Hall had 203 points for an average of 8.8 points per game. She
was the team's leading rebounder last season with a total of 187 and
an average of 8.1 rebounds per game. Cooper had 134 total rebounds
and an average of 5.4 rebounds per game. Hall and Cooper were the
Huskies' high rebounders in all but eight of the club's 27 games.
Pigga, who saw limited playing time last season due to injuries,
should return as a solid performer. She had 22 steals, 21 assists, and
connected on 27 of 44 free throw attempts and averaged 3.1 points
per game. She is joined by Herr who made 81.3% of her free throw
attempts and averaged 3.1 points per game.
DeLullo, the only returning junior, made 38 of 57 free throws
last season and averaged 3.1 points per game. She also had 13 assists
and 24 steals for the Huskies and is one of the top defensive players.
Wolf and Sims contributed last season and should make more
of a contribution in the upcoming season. Wolf, the only freshman to
play in all of the team's 27 games, completed 61. 7% of her free
throw shots, had 22 steals and averaged 5.6 points per game. Sims
made 11 of 17 field goal attempts and averaged 2.5 points per game.
The depth and experience of the returning players should be
enhanced by the seven incoming freshmen. All-State players, Kathy
McGuire, Michelle Simons, and Simons' high school teammate
Lesley Seitzinger, along with Carol Wysocki, should contribute to the
speed and sire of the team. Harrisburg area Big 15 athletes, Bernadette Needham, and Tamika Howard, add to the defensive prowess
and shooting ability of the club.
"We've proven we can be a contender in the conference, but it
won't be to easy to sneak-up on anyone this year," Bressi said. ''It
will be tougher to repeat as division champions because of the parity
in the league. New coaches for some of the teams helps the conference to keep getting better and better. We also made some schedule
changes and picked-up some tougher teams, but it should make us a
better team in the long run."

The Nelson Fieldhouse, located on Bloomsburg University's
upper campus, serves as home for most of the university's indoor
athletic events. The facility has all the necessary ingredients as it
holds a 3000-seat arena for all home wrestling and basketball
events, an indoor track, two tennis courts, an olympic-size swimming pool, and two handbalVracquetball courts. The building has
classrooms and offices for use by the health/physical education and
athletic staffs. Nelson also houses the wrestling practice room,
which is a fully padded area located on the second floor. A totally
equipped Nautilus room adds to the strength and conditioning area
of the program, and Nelson also offers a training room staffed by
two full-time physical therapists and no less than six student
assistants. Also located in the facility is an equipment manager who
handles the needs of most of Bloomsburg 's 18 varsity athletic
teams.
