SEASON'S OUTLOOK
The Bloomsburg State College women's basketball
team will be shooting for its fifth consecutive winning
season during the 1978-79 campaign.
In aim ing for her third winning season, Coach Sue
Hibbs will have to do some rebuilding from her 9-6
team that lost three key performers. Graduated are the
team's two leading scorers Mary Balaban (15.3 p.p.g.
av.) and Julie Ludrof (11 .1 p.p.g.); the former broke a
single game scoring record of 29 points against
Bucknell. She was also the top rebounder averaging
10.5 per game while Ludrof was third with an average of
8.9.
The other loss is the team's main ball handler, Anne
D'lgnazi, iwho scored 44 points and contributed 18
assists. Returnees include Jayne Yurasits who scored
well with a total of 99 points, averaging 8.2 p.p.g. and
was third in assists with 28 for the season. Patty
Lyons had 91 points for the year with an average of 7 .5
p.p.g. Along with pulling down 107 rebounds, she was
tied with Susan McKeegan for the team's lead in
assists with 30. Terry McHale averaged just over seven
p.p.g. and had 22 rebounds. Donna Santa Maria and
Karen Yefko played an important part in relieving the
starting Huskies. Santa Maria had 36 assists and
scored 34 points. Yefko assisted in grabbing 41
rebounds .
New frosh faces will include: Trina Knittel, 5'10"
from Plymouth-Whitemarsh H.S., ranked fifth in
Suburban I League; Sue Curley, 5'10", Camp Hill,
Trinity High grad; Deborah Chuhinka, 5'10½" standout
from a strong Cumberland Valley team in Harrisburg;
and Mary Ann Guffrovich, 5'5" guard from Nanticoke
where she made Wilkes/Scranton All-Star team the last
two seasons.
In addition to a number of state college opponents
and area colleges, the Huskies will again meet the
strong teams of LaSalle and Villanova, newcomer
Lehigh, and participate in the She Gull Invitational
tournament at Salisbury, Md.

was on leave and coached
the Huskies to an 11 -2

Invitational.
Ms. Hibbs has had a number of years of
teaching, playing, and coaching a variety of
sports. In the spring of 1977 she served as the
college's first coach of women 's softball.
A native of Kentucky, Hibbs earned her
Bachelor of Science degree at Western Kentucky
University and her master's degree from East
Stroudsburg State. She is doing additional work
at the Pennsylvania State University.
