BASKETBALL
OUTLOOK
The women's Huskiette basketball squad of
1977-78 is facing the toughest game schedule in
BSC history. The winning ways of past teams set
a difficult precedent for success. In regular
season play· during the past three years, the
Hus._kiettes lost only five of 36 games.
With the loss of only two seniors from last
year's team, the hope for another fine season is in
store for the Huskiettes. Many of the teams that
Bloomsburg will be playing this year have been
national and regional competitors. Luzerne
Co~nty Community College and Salisbury State
Col'lege from Maryland are two of the national
contenders that BSC will face along with regional
challengers Villanova University and LaSalle
College.
The three top leading scorers for Bloomsburg
last year are returning to set new goals in their
athletic achievement. Both of the senior
co-captains for this season were in the top three
scorers on the team with Julie Ludroff the leader
with 142 points and Mary Balaban third with 118
points. Junior Terri Mangino was sandwiched in
between at second place with 131 points on the
year.
Bloomsburg lost both post-season playoffs
last season to Ursinus College and Princeton
University, but this young seasoned squad
should improve in tournament play.
HEAD COACH
Ms. Sue Hibbs became
head women·~ basketball
coach this year after
serving as an assistant last
year and as interim coach
two years ago. She served
in the latter capacity when
Coach Joanne McComb
was on leave and coached
the Huskiettes to an 11-2
season and a fourth place
in the EAIAW Invitational.
Ms. Hibbs has had a number of years of
teaching, playing, and coaching a variety of
sports. In the spring of 1977 she was named the
college's first coach of women 's softball.
A native of Kentucky, Hibbs earned her
Bach·eIor of Science degree at Western Kentucky
University and master's from East Stroudsburg
State. · She is doi.ng additional gr!3duate work at
the Pennsylvania State University.

Julie Ludroff, a senior
and co-captain from Allentown, holds the record for
the most points scored in a
season with 222 in her
sophomore year. She also
averaged 17.0 points per
game that year which is another record that the Business Administration/ Management major holds at BSC. Julie also led the
scoring last season with 142 points and was
second in rebounding with 123. She has shown,
through her ability, that she is capable of being a
leader and has made extensive contributions both
on offense and defense. At 5'11", Julie has the
ability and coordination to handle the position of
center and has proved that by her offensive and
defensive statistics.
Mary Balaban, a senior and
co-captain from Camp Hill,
was one of the offensive
leaders last year when she
ended up the season with
118 points for third place
honors. The Business Administration major uses her
analytical ability on the
court as well when she
sizes up her opponents and sets her mind to do a
specific task. Mary contributes to the team
scoring with her strategic insights as a forward.

Anne D'lgnazio, a senior
guard from Media, is the
smallest member of the
team being 5'3". The lack of
height, though, doesn't
stop Anne from performing
as well as anyone else on
the team. Anne was out of
action last season due to
an illness, but contributed
to the team in her freshman and sophomore
years. She is the record holder in assists with 88
for her career, with one year remaining. Anne's
mobility is of superb quality and her speed and
hustle add to the outside game and compliment
her two senior teammates who are on the inside.
Her playing accomplishments for the first two
seasons indicate a big plus for this year's varsity
squad.
