Annual Black Week beginning
Monday. February 5. Black Week
will run until Saturday, February

surrounding- ine presentations
will be the them e of Black Week ,
"...the color line is a great
problem of this century", first
voiced by William E. B. DuBois
in 1903. As Dr. Simon , advisor to
the Black Student Society put it ,
"It will be a week of instruction
and fun. We hope to inform
people of all colors of the accomplishments and even some of
the flaws of the Black population
in this small community."
Helping with the enlightenment
connected with Black Week will
be three lecturers, Mr . Chuck
Stone, one-time commen tator on
the NBC-TV Today Show and now
a Philadel phia columnist; Mr.
Don L. Lee, a poet-linguist: and
Maya Angelou. Rounding out the
weeks activities will be "The

month for university, college,
and high school Black Student
Societies and Black Study groups
to display their Black heritage in
America. Spurred on by the
recent announcement by Dr.
Lewis S. B. Leakey, the contemporary British archeologist,
that Africa is the birthplace of
mankind , Dr. Simon expressed
hopes that humanity will grow to
understand that there is only a
difference of physical features ;

An unusual performance of
Slavic country folkdances was
presented to a packed house last
week , in Haas auditorium.
LADO , the Yugoslavian National
Dance and Folk Ensemble ,
presented a variety of dances to
an audience consisting of
students interested in folk
culture , students from dancing
classes, and townspeople, mostly
of Slavic descent.
The troupe , consisting of
dancers and musical accompanists , gave a delightful
two-hour rendition. Their first
number was a Midsummer Day
festival dance , performed in
central Croatia , symbolizing a
good harves t and best wishes for
a fruitful season*;
Outstanding in the performance was the "hell-dance "
Zvoncari. At Shrove-tide (the
three days preceding Ash
Wednesday) carnivals are held
throughout Yugoslavia. In the
regions of Rijeka nnd Opatija , the
men tie cowbells around their
waists, and dance, providing
(heir own loud accompaniment.
Ya rds of colorful crepe paper
streamers also provide another
costume, which hides the attached hells.
The ancient Sukacko dance was
performed as the troupe 's finale.
The audience enjoyed the spastic
motions of one section of the
dance. The curtain call repeated
this part of the wedding feast ,

and the onlookers joined in ,
clapping the beat.
The Bloomsburg Civic Music
Association is to be congratulated
for their presentation of such an
enjoyable group as LADO.
Comments from members of the
audience showed a great amount
of enthusiasm at viewing these
bits of old country customs.

Mr. Ron Lee
such as skin pigment and hair
colors, that separate the white
and black races. He also stated,
^'Brotherhood can be fun. "
Visitors from other state
colleges and universities from
surrounding states are expected
to be on hand to witness the many
performances scheduled for this
Second Annual Black Week.

acoustic guitar.
"Moving Waves" is a Moslem
poem a'la Omar Khayam that
revolves
around
some
meticulous piano work. Ah yes,
weirdness supreme.
Side Two is a tone-poem (a
form that seems well adapted to
rock, it's been employed so
many times). Simply entitled
"Eruption ", it places the Orpheus myth into a complex
musical context. Everything
goes, from big city jazz to
Gregorian chant harmonies and
melody. To say that the mood
created is dreamlike and magical
does the song injustice. It's better
than that.
Crazies freaks unite. This
group is ready to be placed in the
racks amidst the Bonzo Dog Band
and the Seventh Sons. The record
will be as classic as anything else
that is so unique it can't possibly
be popular. Grab it while it lasts.
Remember, whether you love
them or hate them, they can't be
ignored.

About the Flu

like this , go over to the infirmary,
get some medicine, and go back
to bed. This too, doesn't usually
last more than 24 hours.
On the other hand , if you feel
terrific, but your roommate and
everyone else in your hall is
washed out there's not much you
can do to prevent getting sick
yourself , except move out. Just
wait and hope for the best and if
you're lucky you won 't feel a
thing.

More impressive works were
the pen and ink on scratchboard .
These works showed much talent
and were excellently done.
Many of the watercolor works
were well done, also, as were
many of the pencil drawings and
pastel sketches.
There was a unique collection
of photographs , many of
professional quality. This
collection and the quality pen and
ink on scratchboard works were
the highlight areas of the show.
Most of these works showed
considerate talent and promise
for the future.
Those who saw the exhibition , I
am sure , were impressed by the
talent exhibited in the works. I

Huskies roll to 13th , top Pa. Conference

Despite the dismal weather
Saturday night , over four
thousand spectators were at the
Nelson fieldhouse to witness the
Bloomsburg Huskies down East
Stroudsburg 79-70.
What appeared to be a runaway
in the opening minutes when the
Huskies jumped to an early 15-2
lead, turned into a close battle.
The half-time score of 45-33 indicated a sure victory but Husky
star John Willis was forced to sit
on the bench when a pair of
disputed calls gave him four
fouls.
With Willis on the bench and
Dick Grace battling Stroudsburg 's Skip Milford under the
boards, the Warriors outside
shooting came to life. At three
minutes and 11 seconds to go,
Kevin Morrissey of East
Stroudsburg tied the game, 68-68
with a pair of free throws. Gary
Choyka then hit a pair of Husky
baskets to ignite the Husky offense to 11 straight points, putting

the game out of the Warriors '
reach.
Dick Grace played a fine game
having five rebounds and four
points while spelling big Willis.
Husky morale was high . as
banners decorated the walls of
the gym stating sentiments such
as "Zetz Psi sez Win no. 13" and
"Go Huskies, we're behind you
all the way."
East Stroudsburg is now 12-3
overall and 2-3 in the Pa. Eastern
Conference. Bloomsburg 13-0 ,
and standing 6-0 in the conference, will be hosting Cheyney
Saturday night. Cheyney is in
second place with one loss.
The JV team edged the East
Stroud JV's 55-54, making their
record 7-1. Their only loss was to
the alumni in the season 's
opener.
Coach Chronister said after the
game that Stroudsburg was a
tough team and that they showed
stamina after coming back from
so far behind.

Kempski drives for a layup as Willis looks on.

Nealy hits tape in record breaking 600 yard run.
