GEORGE A. TURNER
Candidate for Mayor
May 8, 2001
Dear
As a current member of Town Council, I am a candidate for mayor of Bloomsburg. I filed my nomination petition
as a Democrat in the May 15th primary election. No Republican filed a nomination petition for mayor. I am asking
for your support as a “write-in” candidate on the Republican ticket. I do not believe one’s political affiliation should
be an issue in electing the mayor of Bloomsburg. Instead, the key issue is electing a qualified candidate who will be
an effective mayor.
I believe the following factors qualify me to be mayor of Bloomsburg.
• Personal integrity
• Experience in town government
• Record of community service
Former member of the Bloomsburg Area School Board
Former Chairperson of the Columbia County United Way Annual Campaign
President of the Columbia County Historical & Genealogical Society
Member of Bloomsburg First Night Sponsorship/Outreach Committee
Member of Bloomsburg Bicentennial Steering Committee
• Knowledge about the issues facing Bloomsburg
• Common sense approach in making decisions
The experience and knowledge that I have gained by being on Town Council are valuable assets that I can bring to
the mayor’s office. I am fully aware of the issues facing the community as well as the leadership that is expected
from the mayor. It will be my aim to provide the kind of leadership that can bring together competing ideas that will
result in sensible solutions.
I am fully committed to work for the betterment of Bloomsburg. I believe in the guiding principle of serving the
public interest rather favoring special interests. As a public official, I will be open and accessible to the public. It is
important that the mayor foster a cooperative and deliberative spirit in Town Council in dealing with issues that
come before it. Most importantly, I will be fiscally responsible to ensure that taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.
My experience in the town government and a record of long-term involvement in the community will be helpful in
serving as mayor of Bloomsburg.
I welcome your support and will appreciate your “write-in” vote on the Republican ticket in the May 15th primary
election. I will do my best to represent the interests of the entire community and make thoughtful decisions that will
be beneficial to Bloomsburg.
Sincerely,
George A. Turner
