A B.A. in Anthropology provides students with skills needed to understand social and cultural
systems, and helps them develop critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and presentation
skills necessary for professional success. The goals of the Anthropology program are to have
students be able to: 1. Identify diverse worldviews, 2. Describe anthropological theories, 3. Apply
ethical principles in research and practice, 4. Conduct research, 5. Demonstrate effective
communication skills, and 6. Evaluate the viability of diverse approaches to contemporary issues.
This course provides students with capstone practical experience that enhances professionalism
and prepares students for employment, including graduate work. The course focuses on the
application of anthropological concepts, knowledge, and theories in an on-site setting. The
capstone course address all of the program’s goals: application of classroom learning of diversity
of worldviews, theories, ethical principles, research, effective communication, and evaluation of
diverse approaches to everyday challenges in the workforce.

The content will be entirely dependent upon the internship site as well as the
arrangements made by the student who will work in unison with professor and site
supervisor to develop an appropriate capstone internship related to the
Anthropology program.

13. METHODS:
The supervising faculty member will assign a grade for the internship upon consultation with
the student’s on-site supervisor. The grade will be dependent on the student’s fulfillment of
the job description and goals. Students may be required to keep a log of their activities and
write a summary paper of their experiences on the internship site.
14. COURSE ASSESSMENT:
The program curriculum committee will assess the objectives of course assessment and recommend
changes so that the course better reflects the goals of the program. Course assessment will also be
conducted in coordination with and/or upon the request of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and
other relevant bodies.
