Minor Programs
The purpose of Minor programs is to allow students to follow a planned program of coursework in addition to their own major. Minor
programs require a minimum of 18 semester hours, and a minimum of six credits of advanced standing coursework. All students
completing their first undergraduate minor must take at least 50% of the credits required for the minor from a State System University.
Minor programs are self-advised. They are structured to enable students to follow the program with limited advice. A student cannot
minor in their major field of study (i.e., the major (or concentration) and minor cannot share the same name). A student is permitted to
be awarded a maximum of four minors from the University.
The student must complete an application form for each minor and submit it to the Office of Records and Registration no later than their
last semester prior to graduation. While the student is responsible for satisfying all requirements for declared minors, the student is
encouraged to discuss minor options and planning with their advisor.
Minor requirements must be completed simultaneously with a major degree program and satisfied in conjunction with the degree
requirements at the time of graduation. The dean of the school in which the graduating student is majoring will certify satisfactory
completion of the minor(s).
Once a student has met the degree requirements for their major, and if the student has not yet already filed an application for graduation,
adding a minor at this point may extend enrollment at the university and result in the loss of financial aid eligibility (grants/loans) and,
if applicable, loss of NCAA eligibility. Therefore, the costs associated with the enrollment extension may be the sole responsibility of
the student. In this circumstance, the student is advised to confirm the financial implications of this action with a Financial Aid counselor,
and where applicable the Associate Athletic Director.
Because a minor can be declared at any time during a student’s undergraduate career, the University does not guarantee the offering of
all courses required for the minor prior to the student’s graduation.
The official transcript will show any minor program the student has satisfactorily completed at the time of graduation.
