Tho above bit of poetry is very suggestive. It takes the re der to the
core of this great truth , "Silence is very often the way to wisdom." SUv nce,
we could continue , is power. Here some kind and gentle reader raises an obj ection but , wait , let us see. You mention the swiftly moving train and say.
"Noise-powe r." You are wrong my friend the noise is only power gone to
waste, energy used to produce sound not motion.
For reason of contrast turn , if you will , to the other extreme and see
what will be found. There is the silence of grief , more terrible than its
noisy tears or its .shrieks of agony. There is power in grief, the sil 'iice of
heart break.
The greatest power of all is to be found in that "still sm a ll v o ' ce."
Consider the silence of Art. The unite appeal of th> Venus de Milo, of
Mona Lisa or of the Sistine Madonna.
So we could continue but we will do well to come back to this great,
truth , "Sile n ce is po wer , fo r
