PRESENTERS PROVIDED PERSPECTIVES FROM ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL,
HIGH SCHOOL, AND COLLEGE EDUCATORS FROM THE UNITED STATES AND
TURKEY ON CHANGES BROUGHT ABOUT BY COVID-19 AND THE INCREASING
TREND OF STUDENTS TO ONLINE EDUCATION.

Impact/Challenges
Challenges during the pandemic included student contact, support systems,
communication, and elimination of traditional teaching methods. This
impacted education by forcing educators to create more accommodations
and modifications for students in order to continue learning and master
curriculum. Student independence accelerated to a new level during this
time at all levels of education.

Resources
Depending on the situation, many students didn't have the educational
resources needed to be successful during the pandemic. Limited devices and
technology, internet connectivity, virtual platforms, manipulatives, and
basic school supplies, were all barriers to students being successful. This
created a student equity issue in education globally.

Innovation
Panelists discussed the fast paced teacher innovation that took place virtually
during the Pandemic. Creative interventions, strengthened flexibility,
heightened student discovery, and visionary techniques encompassed the
rich innovation that education reaped despite of a terrible situation.

Mental/Social Wellness
Panelists voiced that students exhibited tremendous anxiety and depression
due to loss of family members, fear of sickness, lack of connectivity, and
overwhelming change. Participants felt that isolation was present, however,
teamwork and unity was an overlying theme as a strategy to promote
positive mental and social wellness.
