The Coaching Staff
CHARLES CHRONISTER begins his eleventh season as head coach
at Bloomsburg State. Chronister has continued Bloomsburg's fine
basketball tradition by leading the Huskies to winning seasons in all
of his ten previous years at BSC. His teams have compiled a 169-87
won-lost record, won numerous in-season tournaments and
established over 30 Bloomsburg State team and individual marks.
Also, he has coached the Huskies in several post-season events and
has led BSC to the NCAA Division II national tournament twice. In
1974 the Huskies captured an NCAA Regional Tournament to gain a
quarterfinal berth against eventual champion Morgan State and last
season the team dropped a first round decision to semi-finalist
Cal-Poly.
Prior to coming to Bloomsburg, he was an assistant coach under
Bob Hulton at Gettysburg College for four years. He previously
coached for three seasons at Hanover (PA) High School where his
teams were a combined 59-9 while winning county championships
and participating in the PIAA Distrist Three playoffs. He also served
as freshman coach at East Stroudsburg State for one year and
guided the team to a 17-2 record. He has coached two All-Americans
at BSC-John Willis (1972-74) and Jerry Radocha (1973-77).
A native of East Berlin, Pennsylvania, Chronister earned both his
bachelor's and master's degrees in health and physical education at
East Stroudsburg State College.
BURT REESE enters his 14th season as an assistant coach for the
Huskies. Reese coached the freshman teams for seven years
compiling an 83-27 mark, but for the past six seasons has worked
directly with Chronister and the varsity program. His most important
duty is coordinating BSC's recruiting efforts. He also received his
bachelor's and master's degrees at ESSC.
Entering his 17th season is DR. MICHAEL HERBERT. "Doc" has
served in numerous capacities with the team over the past 16
seasons including a three year period as freshman coach. He
received his BS at the University of Maryland and his master's and
doctorate at Lehigh University.

Basketball Outlook
1981 • 1982
Despite the return of ten veterans from last year's team, the Bloomsburg State College basketball squad will be hard pressed to duplicate its
feats of a year ago.
The Huskies posted a school record 23 wins against just seven losses enroute to winning BSC's first ever Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference crown and with it a trip io the NCAA Division II national tournament. BSC also finished the campaign ranked sixth in the NCAA
Division II final poll.
BSC knocked off East !'itroudsburg and Clarion before handing Indiana (PA) a 72-63 defeat in the PSAC championship game to earn a spot
opposite Cal-Poly in the NCAA event. The Mustangs dumped Coach Charlie Chronister's squad on their way to a final four showing.
Chronister will be entering his eleventh year at the helm and has never experienced a sub .500 season while accumulating 169 wins and 87
losses. He was named " Coach of the Year" by the PSAC coaches, NABC eastern district coaches, and the "Husky Club", a local support group.
BSC will also be seeking the school's 16th straight winning campaign.
All-American candidates Mike Wenrich and Jon Bardsley will lead a group of talented returnees which includes starters Ken Casey and Barry
Francisco.
Wenrich , a junior, led the team in scoring last season with a 15.2 average along with pulling down 7.4 rebounds per game. The 6-5, 200 lb.
forward has scored 899 points and grabbed 420 rebounds in his first two seasons and, if he maintains tiis current pace, is well on his way to
placing himself among BSC's career top five in both categories. He was chosen as the MVP in the PSAC post-season playoffs and as the ECAC
"Player of the Week" once along with being named to the ECAC Honor Roll three times and the PSAC eastern division and NABC eastern district
2nd teams.
Named as one of this year's co-captains , Bardsley is closing out an outstanding four year career at BSC. Last season while doing the bulk of
the ballhandling chores he averaged 13.3 p.p.g. in addition to breaking the Huskies' seasonal and career assist marks. His 180 assists in the
1980-81 campaign is a new school mark as is his 418 a career standard in just three years. He was named to the All-Tournament first team in the
Sacred Heart Classic, the PSAC eastern division first team, NABC eastern district first team, and the PSAC All-Tournament team.
A 6-7, 215 lb. center, Casey missed 1& games a year ago due to a stress fracture in one foot, but returned to help the Huskies win the
conference title. While playing in 12 games, he averaged 14.0 p.p.g. and 8.9 rebounds .
Francisco will be entering his sophomore year after starting most of last season in a guard spot along side of Bardsley. The 6-3, 160 lb. former
Wilkes-Barre G.A.R. High School performer averaged 6.8 p.p.g. and helped the BSC rebounding cause with a 3.2 average.
The Huskies' other co-captain, Doug Greenholt, will return to be used as either a center behind Casey or as a forward. The 6-8, 210 lb. senior did
an outstanding job in place of the injured Casey last season and averaged 6.2 p.p.g . and just under four rebounds per contest .
Terry Conrad and Ron Zynel are two other veterans who should see plenty of playing time. Conrad, a 5-10 junior guard, tossed in 5.1 p.p.g. while
Zynel averaged 5.7 from his forward position. The 6-7, 200 lb. junior also was credited with 2.9 rebounds a game.
Other returnees who saw limited action last season are Ed Nichols and Tom Mason.
Brad Weber returns to the team after a year's absence due to injury. The 6-5, 215 lb. forward will join an already tough front line. Two seasons
ago he averaged 7.4 p.p.g. and 6.0 r.p .g.
Also joining the front line will be 6-7 freshman Wes Wright. In 1980-81 Wright played for Coach Dick Tracy at Whitehall H. S., a PIAA state
"AAA" quarterfinalist. He averaged 14.9 p.p.g. and 8.6 rebounds for the Zephyrs and was named to the East Penn Conference's first team and
Honorable Mention All-State.
Another freshman , Bill Plasko, impressed the coaching staff enough as a walk-on to earn a spot on the 1981-82 squad. Last season he was the
captain for Coach Bob Fulton at Tamaqua H. S.
The Huskies will face a tough 26 game slate that begins on November 28 at Penn State. Sixteen of the contests will be played on the
opponents' floors while just ten games will be in BSC's Nelson Fieldhouse.
