MEN'S
BASKETBALL

JON BARDSLEY GOES UP FOR TWO

COACRES-PLA YER PROFILES
Bill Tillman

Jon Bardsley

Starting his third season as a varsity player,
Bill finds himself in the role Co-captain
and one of the "old men" on the team
even though he is only a junior. One of
the most talented players on the team,
Bill will be looked to as a leader by example.

A sophomore point guard that played in
all 24 games as a freshman. Jon possesses
exceptional quickness along with great
ability as a passer. With an improved shot,
it is expected that Jon could double his
scoring average of 5.4 p.p.g. of a year ago.

Mark Cable

Brad Weber

Co-captain of the 79-80 squad, Mark is undoubtedly the most dangerous outside
shooter on the team and will be looked to
against opponents employing zone defenses. Well liked and with a great sense of
humor, Mark's leadership qualities are a
necessity with this young team .

Although sidelined most of last season by
a shoulder injury, Brad did compete in 9
varsity games as a freshman. A strong
player with a nose for the ball, he will see
a great amount of playing time as the small
forward and defending the opponent's
scoring forward.

Terry Conrad

Mike Wenrich

As a senior at Delone Catholic last year,
Terry was an All-Conference player and
Harrisburg Area All-Star MVP. This year
he gives the Huskies the best depth at the
point guard position in modern Bloomsburg State history . Although a great passer,
Terry also has the capabilities of scoring
in double figures.

Because of a knee injury early last year,
Mike sat out the season and has four
years of eligibility remaining. One of the
best athletes on the team, Mike has the
talent to be one of the statistical leaders
this year and to enjoy a career that would
establish him as one of the outstanding
players to wear a Husky uniform.

Doug Greenholt

NEW FACES

Last year's starting center as a freshman.
Although his progress was limited due to
a number of injuries, still averages 7.0 p.p.g.
and 5.0 rebounds as a freshman. Probably
the fastest big man on the team, and may
see considerable action at the forward position when more size is needed in the game.

Dave Kiersnowski
A native of near-by Shamokin, this junior
will be counted on at the second guard
spot and to lend some maturity and competitiveness to a young squad. Dave has
good defensive instincts and gets involved
well with the Husky running game.

Mark Bennett

Mike Campo

Randy Colone

6'6" Mark Bennett - a smooth, good
passing sophomore forward.
6'7" Mike Campo - Freshman center with
size that could play a lot in the near future.

Ed Nichols

\

The 6'7" sophomore played in 22 games
last year and is expected to contribute significantly as a scorer and rebounder this
season. Ed is a quiet and reserved individual that has the tools to create quite a
commotion with opposing teams.

Dave Ogden
Dave has demonstrated more improvement
in his game than any other member of the
team. After a summer of long hours in the
weight room and on the courts, Dave appears to be one of the people who will
provide some of the scoring punch in this
year's attack.

6'6" Randy Colone - could be the hardest
worker on the squad and a name to remember for the future.

Ron Zynel

6'7" Ron Zynel - has a knack for getting
the ball in the basket. An aggressive
rebounder.

I979·80 OUTLOOK
After two good back-to-back recruiting years, Coach Charles
Chronister indicates the Huskies of Bloomsburg State College
should have the best height in the school's history .
"We face a very tough schedule," comments Chronister.
"There are no seniors on the squad so we're a young team with
some inexperience, but we have a lot of talent and potential.
We should develop as the season progresses."
Co-captains are juniors Mark Cable, 4.3 p.p.g. av. last year,
and Bill Tillman, 7.1 p.p.g. and 4.2 rebound av. per game.
Other key returnees include sophomore Jon Bardsley, 5.4
p.p.g. and leader in assists with 87; 6'7" sophomore Doug
Greenholt, 7.0 p.p.g. and 5.0 rebounds per game; 6'7" sophomore Ed Nichols, 3.1 p.p.g. and 2.8 rebounds per game; and
6'3" junior Dave Ogden who saw considerable action late in the
season . Mike Wenrich, a 6'5" sophomore and a good leaper, was
injured early in the season and sat out the balance of the year.
Lost through graduation were last year's co-captains John
Bucher and Miles Reitnouer who led the team to a 13-12
season. Bucher averaged 13.4 p.p.g. and 5.5 rebounds per game
while Reitnouer's average was 11.3 p.p.g. and 6.2 rebounds
per game.
Although the above returnees all saw considerable action
last year, Chronister will still have a very young team, mostly
freshmen and sophomores. During the 1978-79 campaign,
there was a lack of consistent scorers, and this may be a
problem again, particularly early in the season.
Six foot three sophomore Brad Weber saw some varsity
action and up from the JV's are 6'3" junior Dave Kiersnowski
and 6'6" sophomore Mark Bennett. Ron Zynel, a 6'7" sophomore from Wilkes Barre, who was recruited two years ago by
Chronister and decided not to play as a freshman, is back as a
surprise walk-on.
Incoming freshmen include: Terry Conrad, a 5'10", 160
lb. point guard from McSherrystown (Delone Catholic), a
first team South Central League selection, MVP, Harrisburg
area and an all-stater, averaged around 17.0 p.p.g.; Mike
Campo, 6'7", 200 lbs., Moscow (North Pocono H.S.), averaged
around 20.0 p.p.g., an All-Conference and dream team selection;
and Randy Colone, 6'6", 180 lbs. from West Deptford H.S.,
Woodbury, N.J., a regional all-star.
Two transfers with later eligibility are David Heimbach, a
6'5" sophomore from Lycoming College, who joins the team in
January, and Ken Casey, the 6'6" ex-King's College standout,
who will have to wait unitl the 1980-81 season.
Chronister's career record at SSC stands at 132-67. Assistant
coaches are Burt Reese, now in his 12th season, and Mike
Herbert, in his 15th year.
The Huskies will play a 21 game schedule plus participate in
the Clarion State Invitational on November 30 and December
1, conduct their own SSC Keystone Invitational Classic January
4-5, and play in the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament
January 11-12.
