OUTLOOK
Husky Coach Charles Chronister will have a
comparatively young team for the 1978-79
campaign. He'll be counting on a nucleus of five
returnees who saw considerable action on last
year's 14-10 team, plus the largest group of
newcomers he has had to date on varsity status.
Included in the returnees are senior co-captains
6'4" John Bucher, Ephrata (6.6 p.p.g.) and 6'3"
Miles Reitnouer, Reading (9.2 p.p.g.) along with
sophomores 6'4" Bill Tillman, Cranford, NJ (5.3
p.p.g.) , 6'2" Mark Cable, Bethlehem (7 .3 p.p.g.),
and 5'11" Don Mccann, Dalton (5.5 p.p.g.).
Bucher, Reitnouer and Tillman are good leapers
and maneuver well inside while Cable and
Mccann are steady backcourt performers.
The Huskies lost three 6'5" regulars in Steve
Bright (14.0 p.p.g. and a two-time Academic
All-American), Al Williams (19.3 p.p.g.) and Jeff
Slocum (6 .1 p.p .g. and a great off-the-bench
player). Williams and Brights were the top
rebounders and also became the fifth and sixth
career scorers in BSC history with 1158 and 1029
points respectively.
Chronister, who has had seven consecutive
winning seasons since coming to BSC, said this
year has been his best recruiting year.
Newcomers include: guards James "pewee"
Thomas, Philadelphia, and Jon Bardsley,
Lansdowne, and much-needed height in 6'7"
center Don Greenholt, Hanover, 6'7" center I
forward Ed Nichols, Williamsport, 6'5" forward
Mike Wenrich, Reading. In addition, junior John
McNaughton, Newport, last year's leading JV
scorer, moves up to varsity status.
"If this latter group gains the necessary
experience early enough, the Huskies should be
headed for another winning season and,
hopefully, be in contention for eastern division
Pennsylvania Conference honors," Chronister
said.

Duke University's Bill Foster, former BSC cage
coach, is shown with Coach Chronister at a
recent get-together.

A native of Lansford, Pennsylvania, Herbert
received his degrees at the University of Maryland
and Lehigh University. He is a professor of
Biology and also coaches women's tennis. He
previously served as head golf coach and a
number of years ago as head tennis coach.

A native of Taylor, Pennsylvania, he received
both his Bachelor of Science and Master of
Education degrees at East Stroudsburg State
College. At ESSC he assisted in the basketball
and tennis programs as a graduate assistant.
After leaving ESSC, he joined the faculty of Old
Forge (Pa.) High School where he was assistant
basketball coach at Abington Heights High
School , Clarks Summit (Pa.) for three and one
half years.
Reese has also been an extremely successful
tennis coach at BSC having produced some
outstanding teams over the past nine years. He
and his wife Marion and their three year old
daughter Meredith reside in Scenic Knolls near
Bloomsburg.

GARY TYLER
FRESHMAN COACH
Gary Tyler, a former
Husky standout for Coach
Chronister (1972-75),
served as assistant JV
coach last year and will
direct the JV squad this
year.

MICHAEL HERBERT
ASSISTANT VARSITY COACH
During the past 13 years ,
Dr. Michael Herbert has
served in numerous capacities on the basketball staff.
Prior to this season, he was
freshman coach for three
years . This year " Doc" has
the responsibility of aiding
the varsity team as a
practice and game assistant. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport
has been a significant asset to the overall cage
program.

CHARLES CHRONISTER
HEAD BASKETBALL COACH
Charles Chronister, beginning his eighth year at
Bloomsburg State College,
can look back on his
previous seven years with
pride. He and his varsity
Huskies have compiled a
119-55 won-lost record. His
teams have won numerous
'
in-season tournaments, established over 30 team and individual Bloomsburg State records, participated in post-season
tournaments and had the first Bloomsburg State
team to win a NCAA Regional Tournament and go
on to Evansville for the National Championship
Tournament.
Prior to coming to Bloomsburg in 1973, he was
an assistant coach and freshman coach under
Bob Hulton for four years. He previously coached
for three years at Hanover (Pa.) High School
where his JV and varsity teams were 59-9 while
winning county championships and participating
in the PIAA District II play-offs. He also served as
freshman coach at East Stroudsburg and guided
the team to a 17-2 record.
Chronister has been successful in attracting
good basketball talent to Bloomsburg. He has
coached two All-Americans, John Willis (1972-74)
and Jerry Radocha (1974-77).
Active in the National Coaches Association, he
conducts his own BSC basketball school and has
served as a guest lecturer at other schools and
clinics in the East. In 1974 he presented a
two-week clinic to players and coaches in Brazil.
A native of East Berlin, Pa., Chronister earned
both his bachelor's and master's degrees in
health and physical education at East
Stroudsburg State College. He is married to the
former Carol L. Strausbaugh of Hanover. They
have two children, Lee Ann, age 11 and Caryn
Lynn (9) and reside at 1276 Pine St., Skyview
Acres, Bloomsburg.

BURT REESE
ASSISTANT VARSITY COACH
After coaching
the
Bloomsburg freshman
teams to 83 victories
against 27 defeats over a
seven-year span, Burt Reese
moved into a different role
three years ago with the
basketball program.
In addition to working
directly with Coach Chronister and the varsity players, he continues to
coordinate the basketball recruiting efforts which
have been so successful at the college. He is
considered by Coach Chronister as "one of the
outstanding assistant coaches in the state".
