Trainer PAUL SI OCUM, a native of
Massachusetts, was appointed Physical Therapist at BSC in the fall of
1972. He received a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Dakota Wesleyan University, S. Dakota, and was awarded
his Certificate of Physical Therapy
from the School of Allied Medical
Professions, University of Pennsylvania; he was recently licensed for
the state of Pennsylvania. In addition to his trainer duties for the varsity and intramural
programs, he also serves as physical therapist for the
student body and members of the faculty.
DEPARTMENT CHAIRMAN
DR. CONRAD A. BAUTZ was appointed Chairman, Department of
Health, Physical Education, and Athletics in June, 1972. A 1956 Brooklyn
College graduate, he served at his
Alma Mater in a number of capacities prior to coming to Bloomsburg.

SEASON'S OUTLOOK
Following lost years rewarding year, Coach Roge:
Sanders faces somewhat cf a rebuilding year, particularly
in the upper weights. The team will be made up most:y
of freshmen and soohomores as only two juniors and
three seniors will be donning Maroon and Gold uniforms.
Sanders' biggest job appears to be fill;ng the shoes of
three 197 4 graduates who attained All-American honors
-Ron Sheehan (167 lbs.), Floyd "Shorty" Hitchcock (177
lbs.), and John Hohmann (190 lbs.). Hitchcock was the
most illustrious wrestler in the history of BSC, having won
the NCAA college and university divisions as well as
being named outstanding wrestler in both divisions. His
picture is on the cover of this year's NCAA Wrestling
Guide. Sheehan won the college division title and Hohmann finished sixth in that division.
Sanders visualizes the possibility of seven or e:ght
freshmen and sophomores being in the BSC lineup at the
same time. The potential of the freshmen crop appears
to be outstanding. The following all have experience of
being in the state high school championships: 118 pounders Kevin Schuck, Norwich, N.Y., and Dexter Derr, Levittown; 126 lbs., Chris Harmatta, Lebanon; 158 lbs., Don
Zimmerman, North Schuylkill; 177 lbs., Steve Scheib, Hegins; 190 lbs., Mike Snyder, Tyrone.
Complementing the array of new freshmen will be
Tom Fink, a sophomore who had a 12-5 record and finished fourth in Pennsylvania Conference; Randy Watts.
142 lbs., PC champion with a 13-3 record; and Dan Burkholder, 158 and 167 lbs., who compiled a 13-2 record
before sustaining an injury in the last dual meet of the
season. Other letter winners and junior varsity wrestlers
who will be counted on during the season include sophomores Gary Scarano, 126 lbs., Dave Brandt, 134 lbs., and
Charles "Chick" Carter, 150 lbs.; junior Mark Mehler,
158 lbs.; senior Matt Tydor, 158 lbs.; and junior Jim Hohmann, 177 I bs.
Until the younger participants get more college wrestling experience, it will be difficult to top last season's
record of 17 wins and 3 losses along with the following
tournament finishes: 5th, East Stroudsburg State College
Open; l st, U.S. Coast Guard Tournament; 4th, Wilkes
Open; 3rd, Pennsylvania Conference; 5th, NCAA Division
II; 15th (unofficially), NCAA Division I.
"It is going to be a real interesting year. I am looking
forward to it with great anticipation," Sanders states.
