WRESTLING OUTLOOK
The 1973-74 intercollegiate wrestling season should be
a rewarding one for Bloomsburg State College. Coach
Roger Sanders, now entering his second year at BSC,
should have one of his finest squads.
Returning from last year's squad are five seniors to
form a powerful nucleus for this year. Leading the returning Huskies is Floyd "Shorty" Hitchcock, a senior from
Wyalusing at 177 lbs., who has proven himself to be one
of the world's finest, winning a silver medal in the World
University games in Russia last August. Floyd has also
won the Pennsylvania Conference Championship twice
and was a NAIA runnerup. Last year he boosted his collegiate record to 50-5 while going undefeated for the
season.
Joining Shorty to lead the squad are seniors Lon Edmonds, an outstanding 134 pounder who was runner-up
in the P.C. in 1973; Randy Watts, who finished third in
the P.C. for the past two years; and Ron Sheehan, who
was first in P.C. at 190 lbs. in 1971 and second at 177 lbs.
in 1973. The above four are joined by standout Bill Pasukinis, a 142 pounder from Shamokin.
Other lettermen returning from last year are Brian
Berry, a junior from Hatboro, and Dan Burkholder, a
junior from Denver who placed sixth in the P.C. last year.
Another grappler to watch is Don Roberts, a 126 pounder
who is returning after missing the 1973 year due to a
knee injury. Also, the following upper classmen will be
counted on very heavily: John Hohmann (190 lbs.), Matt
Tydor (177 lbs.), Jim Hohmann (167 lbs.); all are transfer
students with excellent wrestling backgrounds. Coach
Sanders has 25 freshmen candidates to help fill in vacancies.
The 1973-74 schedule is one of the toughest in the
history of the college. The Huskies participate in preseason tournaments at East Stroudsburg and U.S. Coast
Guard Academy, along with the Wilkes Open at Christmas. Several new opponents are nation, ally ranked OklahQma U., Athletes in Action, Army, Princeton, Gettysburg,
and B1:1cknell. BSC will also be participating in the highly
regarded Pennsylvania State Conference Championships.
