Message for the Graduating Class of 1954:
To you, the graduates of the Class of 1954, I pass on the challenging message
contained in a curious document written in 1798 but not published until one hundred
and twenty-four years later in 1922.
—
William Manning, a New England farmer, wrote an essay with the title "The Key
Mr. Manning's argument was compressed into these words: "Learning

of Libberty."
In these crucial mid-century years, America is looking to the schools to make
our youth socially competent, morally responsible, and unswervingly patriotic citizens. It is gratifying to know that year after year your Alma Mater is sending forth
well-prepared teachers to render the service needed by our Commonwealth and by
our Nation.

Message for the Graduating Class of 1954:
To you, the graduates of the Class of 1954, I pass on the challenging message
contained in a curious document written in 1798 but not published until one hundred
and twenty-four years later in 1922.

It is gratifying to know that year after year your Alma Mater is sending forth
well-prepared teachers to render the service needed by our Commonwealth and by
our Nation.
