After a good start in '53 by taking their

To you, the graduates of the Class of 1954, I pass on the challenging message
contained in a curious document written in 1798 but not published until one hundred
and twenty-four years later in 1922.



William Manning, a New England farmer, wrote an essay with the title "The Key
Mr. Manning's argument was compressed into these words: "Learning
and Knowledge is essential to the preservation of Libberty and unless we have more
of it amongue us we Cannot Seporte our Libbertyes Long."
